Photography Equipment / Battery charger blinking
« on: March 29, 2016, 22:52 »
Hi everyone! I'm still around, though not much here.

I hope you can help me with this.

I purchased a Canon T6i in December. Days ago I bought a spare battery, Canon brand, in B&H (shipped to a friend who was in the USA).

I charged this battery two times, I believe. Now I put it in the charger and the orange light is blinking. I thought it could be poorly positioned in the charger, so I removed and placed it again. No luck.

I could not find in Canon's Knowledge Base anything other than the regular charging instructions (https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART161444). I found that another model had a similar problem (http://www.canonrumors.com/canon-lp-e6-product-advisory/), but I don't know if this is the same thing really.

The charger and the battery have not suffered any accident such as being spilled with water or whatever.

Any ideas?

I didn't try the other battery, which is charged, to see if the blinking happens with it. I want to preserve this as I am away from home right now.

Thanks!

I can not say I have been very successfull at Zazzle, but I can't complain. I have been making more there than in the micros.
In my experience, business cards offer the best results, because once you sell, clients make new orders months later. Not all, not even most of them, but many.
When I started, I had one store for everything, ordinary photos, "fine art" photos, illustrations.  Then I decided to make a special store for my fine art (that is, mostly landscapes and landmarks), because I think it can be more appealing to a buyer and I wanted to market this stuff that I like more. I also created a store for designs using my lovebirds - focused on children's apparel and stuff. Whether this is a good strategy or not, I can not say.
One thing I hate about Zazzle is that they insist on charging royalty taxes on items sold outside USA, which represent most of my sales. Given that Brazil doesn't have a tax agreement with USA, I am charged 30% in all my income, despite the IRS rule regarding royalties - a huge loss.

Keyword tiers are one of the better things Alamy does, I'd like to see other sites adopt that or something similar.  Spending a few extra seconds making sure our images have good keywords helps buyers find them.  What's more important uploading millions of images as quickly as possible or getting sales?
I agree, despite the extra work.

It seems I will finally start taking the step I have been postponing: leave the microstock sites.

Flickr / Flickr: Stats, Pro account
« on: April 10, 2014, 18:47 »
I don't see a link to my stats in Flickr menu anymore. Was this feature discontinued or does it have anything to do with my Pro account being over?

I thought Pro account was just about extended storage (until they banned the 200-image limit last year) and the ability to replace an image.

Under Settings, there is a link "Repurchase Pro", I get a screen saying "Even more Spectaculr - Go ad-free! Make your Flickr experience 100% photos, 0% Ads", but then they say this is not available in Brazil. There is no other link for anything merely "Pro". And in a link they explain:

"As of May 20, 2013, we are no longer offering Flickr Pro.

If you have purchased your Pro in Brazil, be aware that the recurring Pro subscription option is not available.

All Flickr Pro members in Brazil will remain Pro until the expiration date of their subscription retaining all the original benefits. Also, Pro members will be able to enjoy the upgraded photo and video size limits offered with our new free account.

Since all the benefits of your Flickr Pro account will be fully maintained until the expiration date of your subscription no refunds will be applicable for Flickr Pro accounts purchased in Brazil.

Were currently working on making our new paid options available to our Brazilian users."

So now. What have I lost??

Very convincing indeed, and I wonder if there is something behind it. I only got it on the email address that I use for Skrill. Ok, I do get a lot of spam and phishing scam there, but also in my Yahoo address, in which apparently this did not come too. I mean, did the sender have a list of Skrill customers?

The other day I got a phishing scam from a company, that kind of message confirming an online purchase. The fact that I had never purchased anything from them rang a bell, but the subject had my name and my register number. So it was not just a random email, someone had my data. Scary.

One has to be very careful these days.

I also got this and clicked on the link, because at first I didn't notice it showed "skrillv" instead of "skrill". Then I noticed also it was not protected (no lock icon) and, just in case, I tried a wrong password - it did not complain.

9
Even though the money that goes through Skrill is very little in my case, they did change my account to business about a year ago.

Just a little story.

I was picked once in American Airlines to have my checked baggage inspected. I had a AA-battery charger with the batteries in it. They asked me to separate batteries and charger. I think it is unlikely this could be a real problem, but anyway.

I haven't checked my bank account (I need a token that is at home), but Alamy shows payment was processed yesterday.

Should anyone be interested, please do not send any money right now. I haven't managed to contact the crche manager yet.

Off Topic / Christmas campaign 2013
« on: November 26, 2013, 05:43 »
Hi everyone,

Here I am launching again my Christmas campaign, to which some friends here contributed in the past three years (2010, 2011 and 2012).

Friends and coworkers joined me in the Mail's "Adopt a Santa Claus letter" campaign and now I'm working on the Christmas party at a crche in a slum near our office. In the past years, contributions from MSG members fully funded the toys for the more or less 45 children who attend it.

For those who don't know this project, there is this crche run inside a "favela", for children ages 2 to 4. They have a Christmas party in December and we've been buying each of them a little toy. We hire a Santa to distribute the toys and it is delightful to witness the kids in ecstasy for living this dreamy moment. I have just contacted the lady in charge of the crche and I don't have the date of their party yet. Still, I want to buy everything in advance.

Money can be sent to my PP or MB accounts - both _adelaidebs_at_hotmail_dot_com_.  PM me when you make the transfer with the name/email used and amount, so I can check these accounts and acknowledge the donations.

Looking forward to having MSG members helping me with this project again. Photos of the event will be posted later, as in the previous years.

Regards,
Adelaide

Alamy.com / Re: what's the real difference between RF and RM?
« on: November 26, 2013, 05:22 »
I sell almost only RM because of the type of content - cityscapes, most of which with people, and sports events. I don't have much there and therefore my sales are not impressive. I didn't allow novel use. Only one sale was below US$50. There was one last year of US$170 that was renewed this year for the same price.
If only I would stop taking photos and start uploading more! :)

Software / Re: IPTC editing software
« on: November 23, 2013, 15:57 »
Hmm, I don't work in batches with Exifer (I believe it can't), but I do import data from another image, adjusting data accordingly. I think Irfanview allows batch editing.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy changed payment threshold
« on: November 22, 2013, 09:41 »
I'm tired of dealing with Alamy and their horrible keywording interface, the IPTC import issues, and the purchases which take forever to clear.
What IPTC import issues?
I do like their keyword grouping for relevance. It is however time-consuming.

Ol. Sou do Rio.

Wow, I don't think it ever took me more than 2 months after the threshold was achieved.

Alamy.com / Re: RM usage in perpetuity ?
« on: November 14, 2013, 19:13 »
I may be wrong, but considering that the image is being used in an app, and that the app will be used for as long as someone wishes maybe the license is granted for as long as the app exists and someone uses it, therefore in perpetuity... Or, not...
I believe it is something like that. The buyer can only use it for 3 years (until 13 November 2016), but it may be in the sold copies of his product forever.
What is confusing to me is "Media: Editorial website" vs "Educational app for retail"

Ok, folks, here are four Kiva loans that I joined today, all from Senegal, but they need funding in the next 3-4 days. Hopefully someone here wants to pick one too.

In my case - to withdraw amount of 100 euros:
merchant account fee 4%  - 4 euros
withdrawal fee 2.95 euros per withdrawal - 2.95 euros
intermediary bank charge - 20 euros
total fees and commisions: 26.95 euros

net amount to my bank account: 73.05 euros  :'(
Merchant account fee is what they cut from the agency's payment to our Skrill account, right?
Does PP charge anything as the above or the withdrawal fee from account to bank?
What is the last item? I don't see that in their page. I wonder if this would affect me too. I haven't made any withdrawal recently.

It's 2.95 euros per withdrawal to back account, right?
