Got a reply this morning...

Thank you for your email.

The earnings for the downloaded image with the EEL might be due a bulk credit purchase that was made by the client and also by applying
promotional discounts with the purchase. Yes, we do offer promotional purchase discounts to our loyal customers.

However, we will need to double check this with out technical team to see whether the download can be as low as $3.
Rest assured, as we will definitely get back to you once we find out the calculation for that particular download.

We appreciate your patience on this matter. Thank you.

Dunno when they will come back with a "better" answer".

I guess the short answer is they can give away credits for free and the contributor will foot the bill for it.

123RF / got $3.00 for a EEL sale? really?
« on: December 20, 2012, 05:59 »
I rarely check or submit to 123rf just because of their randomness in approval. Today when I looked up the earnings I saw one photo sell for EEL. I was quite excited till I looked across and saw only $3.00? Then I had a quick look and saw all the posts about how 'dodgy' the commission has been of late? So would this mean it's correct that I only got $3 for an EEL sale which costs 75 credit?

Just to be clear, I wasn't asking for a comparison between SS and IS, I was just asking for which photos of my I should put forward to SS, maybe on their forum, for further critique.

Thanks for those who's taken time to review the portfolio.

Photo Critique / which of these to submit for SS approval?
« on: May 08, 2012, 23:21 »
Not sure if I can post my istock folio link on SS forum so thought I'd try it here first.

Here's my portfolio from istock.

http://www.istockphoto.com/search/portfolio/1335984

I'm having a hard time picking which ones cause being approved by iStock I would have thought they all suffice quality wise but I'm sure it's not the case.

Please let me know which ones I should include in the initial 10. Ta.

the review queue haven't gotten any better, if not worse, I think everyone over there have taken the Easter weekend off (last 5 days). My stuff have not moved in the queue and afew have the bar completely filled since Friday. You think everyone'll be back to work by now?

as much as I'm making 50% of income from PD and it's very easy effort to upload, their reviews are very random. Uploading the same image 3 times will get u 3 different rejection reason and possible an approval on the 4th...

123RF / Re: 123RF Property Release Craziness
« on: April 03, 2012, 18:57 »
I agree, it's ridiculous. And unlike Photodune, where weird property release rejections are just one of many aspects of their reviewers randomness, it really appears to be a specialty at 123RF...

I love how they put a series of completely nondescript signs (i.e. road signs and the like) into editorial via their "submit to editorial if not accepted" option. what? Might as well refuse - for editorial I am sure nondescript road signs have quite LCV...  ::)

At least with photodune u get short turn around time on the reviews (except for the last couple of weeks) and for me I'm having regular sales every week, with these mobs it takes ages just for them to say "no"... over some bs reason cause apparently I need to get someone to sign a sheet of paper for a generic window or brick wall...

I got rejected 4 times and waiting for 5th time.my images are approved at SS and all other major stock sites, but istock seems to be very hard for new photographers.

i also got rejected 3 times in illustrations section as well, but got approved 2 illustrations  in last 2 submission and waiting to submit last one.

i dont think so i am old enough in this industry to give you any big idea apart this that you keep trying but one thing i learned from all that rejections that new photographers need to come up with something really grt to get in.so think unique.

Best of luck

I'm the opposite, I got accepted everywhere EXCEPT on SS, in fact all of the 10 I submitted the first time to SS had some problem with it o.O IS seems like a walk in the park compared to SS

pretty much, 80 submitted, all of them which were to do with building, a wall, a window or a door got rejected.

11
Yeah I got that for my last bunch of submissions. Pretty crazy right? I mean it's a shot of the same building done from different angles, how many ways can I call it in the title and description?

I submitted the same bunch of images multiple times and I get some approved after 2 times and bunch of others gets rejected for different reasons every other time... then afew weeks later I try again and get afew more approved go figure!

Have not got 1 sale out of these guys for last 5 month, even canstock is doing way better and they accept everything I throw at them.

i get like $1 sale a week lol but my portfolio is only ~130. In the mean time for ~100 portfolio on istock I get 3x the sale, and approval of images aren't as random.

Photo Critique / Re: too snapshotish? don't understand...
« on: February 11, 2012, 07:37 »
In the first image, I find the perspective lines problematic.  The lines of the doorway on the right feel awkward, as does the wall on the left.  I'd consider stretching the top left and top right to make the whole thing more perpendicular.  I also notice that the brick walk isn't straight; it moves up from left to right.  Also, you cut the corner of the leftmost plant, so the leaf seems to enter the scene from nowhere.

In the second, the lower row of lanterns is cut off at the middle.  Given all the empty (and dull gray) sky above, why not reposition lower down to show less sky and more lanterns?

The blown out sky in the third is distracting, and so is that little bit of building in the upper right.  At minimum I'd edit that out.  Better would be to change viewpoint a little to the right to lose that bit of building and the leftmost lantern you cut off.  Best would be to reshoot on a day when the sky isn't so dull.

looks like I will throw those lantern shots in the bin since I have already wasted enough time trying to make them work. Interesting what you said about the alleyway image, I'll see what I can do with them, perhaps I tilted the original shot too much trying to straightening it up.

too bad I can't reshot these cause it was taken whilst overseas last month :(

so 2 problems... sky is too bright (really cloudy day) and crop it down so there are less laterns... what about that shot with the alleyway sky too bright?

maybe with the 2nd one I can understand if the quality is up to par cause I had to do alot of pp to increase the brightness but the other two I wouldn't know what is so snapshotish about them?

CanStockPhoto.com / Did canstock just went all hardcore?
« on: January 06, 2012, 00:41 »
Never used to get any rejection and just last 3 days I have gotten 20/22 photos rejected for reason of "photo not unique" enough or "not up to our standard"... I can pick many more photos that are way below standards of the ones I submitted in last 2 days that's been accepted without any issue...

Veer / taking forever to get photo reviewed?
« on: December 15, 2011, 18:25 »
my photo from 2 weeks ago are sitting in the pending list. I thought fotolia and istock had slow turnaround but even they would do it after a week or so. Am I missing something here?

I applaud how easy it is to get ur photos approved however, 70 photos later, none of them have been viewed. I don't think the search give much weight to new uploads? If this continues then it's a complete waste of time no matter how many photos gets approved...

23
none of my 70 images have had any view. Have submitted ticket seeing what is going on. Seems like a waste of time eventhough their approval rate is practically 100%.

Photo Critique / Re: exposure problem with these images?

Interesting and yes, that amazing random approval lottery.

Opinion of the image in question is, white balance possibly off, it looks yellowish, maybe better described as tan. Do you have your monitor color corrected?

Hey I've had rejections for color balance when I shot at Sunset and intentionally had a golden cast. It didn't fly.  ;)

Yes funny that I just calibrated my screen over the weekend as well. I actually intentionally made it more warm and golden to give that fried food appeal... guess it didn't come off :( might just adjust the white balance abit to the blue side of things once I get the chance.

These are different building. The copyrighted ones I resubmitted and got them approved (how random).

Now I have issues with this nothing having enough contrast or bad lighting?

too warm or the colour's too yellow/red?
