Thanks for all of the replies they are very usefull.. I have just checked the colour space on my camera is  in sRGB and I always shoot in raw, I have just had a look in CS5 and it looks like it is set at sRGB  by default.

I have just compared some of my images that are on my PC against the same images that are upload to stock sites and the uploaded pictures are definately not as vibrant ( I checked a image of the union flag and after looking at it for a while there is quite a difference ), so should i be proccesing them so  as they look a bit too vibrant on my machine and will then have a bit more punch once uploaded..

once again thanks for all of your help...Steve.

Cheers for the replies, I have taken on board your suggestions and will act on them... I am fairly new to this as you can probably tell, up till now I have always been a wildlife / motorsport photographer and soon worked out that they are not good genres for stock... I have made my mind up to put 18 months into this to see if I can get somewhere, so will continue to research as much as I can..

A quick question for lagereek..I thought that isolations were a good thing to have in my portfolio should I be giving up on isolations or just trying to find something new ?   funnily enough this http://en.fotolia.com/id/37120950 is probably my best selling image to date not much but I think it's sold 8 times between all the sites that it's on..I didn't expect that, maybe I should take that gearbox apart again and take a few more shots of it  :) once again thanks for all your replies...I am a pretty determined guy so hopefully should get there in the end.

Newbie Discussion / Can you give me a honest opinion please....
« on: February 06, 2012, 14:16 »
Hello all, I have been doing  microstock since about the end of september, and have now got images on 9 sites  including the top 4, with some sites having more images than others...If any of you have a couple of mins to spare could you click on this link to my portfolio on one of the sites and give me a honest opinion  to wether I am going in the right direction or not..  http://en.fotolia.com/p/202780381    I feel that my more recent images are getting better..i am trying to vary things and are looking forward too the good weather returning so as I can get some more outside shots done and uploaded..

Also I have been selling a few images of late but find that if I try to search them on a couple of sites they don't show up.

thanks for looking at this post and I would appreciate any advice..

Steve.

Hello All, a bit of a newbie question here.... I have my own website with my own general photography, nature / motorsport etc images and wondered is there any reason that I shouldn't make a seperate gallery and call it  (Stock photos or similar )and then  upload say a hundred of my images that are also uploaded to several different stock sites ( I would watermark the images to try and stop them being nicked ) then put a link on the gallery going to all of the stock sites trhat I upload too..hopefully pushing a few more views and hopefully sales from my stock sites..

firstly is there any reason why I am not allowed to do this. second is it a good idea to do this or would I just be wasting my time.. ( oh yeah, I wouldnt be selling any images from my own site ..just displaying them )

Thanks  Steve....and merry xmas to you all..

I have uploaded the initial 10 to see if could get accepted and I was..

I now have a couple of questions....

1 , do the test images go in to my portfolio or do I have to resubmit them..? ? ?.

2 I have just uploaded a small batch of images via FTP ( and after it being a bit longwinded they are now in a queue to see if they are accepted or not....if they are accepted where do i find them as I cant find a button to veiw a portfolio ? ? ?, unless thats because there are no images in it yet..

any advice help would be appreciated, steve.

you arent trying very hard too, the submission aint easy but it is quite easy to see your portfolio, just go to your "nickname" on the top right corner and a few options will show up

you need to upload the initial approval batch

yep iv'e worked that bit out.. ;) and have been to the dropdown menu on the top right of the page where there are a few options..none of them saying portfolio..if I go to author dashboard I can see the submissons being processed... but  if the first 10 submissions that were submitted for entry, dont go into your portfolio, then I suppose I have no portfolio..? I just couldn't see a button that says portfolio like on other sites thats all,

General Stock Discussion / newbie question on RF images
« on: December 17, 2011, 09:51 »
hello all, This might sound like a daft question but is there any limit to how many stock sites that I can upload the same RF  images to..

from what I understand you cant upload a image as rf on one site then upload the same image as rm on another site, which I can understand..

also I am very new to this but am willing to put some time into it testing the water, so if it is ok to upload RF images to say 10 different sites , is it worth it  ? as I said I am just testing the water at the moment and maybe it's better to go exclusive later..

I would be greatfull to hear your veiws on the above.. many thanks, steve.

Hello all, as the title says when you upload images on canstock how long can expect before you start to get views...not a problem but I uploaded my first batch of images a week ago and it looks like I have had 1 view..
I brought CanStockPhoto up to date with the past 1/2 year's images about 2-3 days ago and they don't have any views yet. They are pretty slow in general although an EL once in a while makes up for it. Apart from that, it's run by a very nice and responsive guy and the upload and MRF attribution works like a charm. The site has always been the best programmed one around. I guess they update their keyword DB about every week, as it is very resource-intensive. Dreamstime takes about 3 days to index new images into the keywords DB.

Thanks for the reply, being a newbie to micro stock it's nice to know how these things work..
