Photo Critique / Re: batch completely rejected from SS, I'm puzzled« on: August 25, 2009, 11:59 »
Put yourself in the reviewer's shoes.
You look at mostly "crap" all day then you see a batch of multiple images that don't seem to pass the muster. Of course you would reject them too =) It's hard to see it from the other side of the fence but when you're about to submit, put on a reviewer's glasses and really try to see. Self critique can be hard but it's a lesson we all need to perfect =) 3
Print on Demand Forum / Re: Is anyone successfully selling prints of their photos online?« on: August 25, 2009, 11:54 »
I use Smugmug and have a lot of sales there.
You may want to "sell" them like on an auction style site, have the print run though Smugmug direct to the customer etc.... Prints well very well to European countries I find in that manner. 4
Photo Critique / Re: second reject« on: August 24, 2009, 18:08 »
If I were the reviewer, I would have rejected it too, sorry
To me it has little to no commercial value and it is shot at the worse possible time of day when light is the harshest. I can't envision what product or service this could represent or how a designer could implement this into a design. Don't get discouraged, just refocus what you shoot! Just my honest 2 cents 5
General Stock Discussion / Re: New contributor referral program at The3dStudio.com - 5% for life« on: August 24, 2009, 18:04 »Katrina, the answer as David said (I can't keep up with him!) is that, yes, we want your normal stock portfolio (images/photos) as that is the newest section of our site. You can see our stock categories at: http://www.the3dstudio.com/product.aspx?id_category_0=290 (and we can add categories as needed on request). Thanks! I had looked around a bit on the site and well with my Artist 5 second attention span couldn't find it. Didn't want to waste time uploading something you didn't want! LOL Ok guys check your referrals, someone here just got another! LOL 6

General Photography Discussion / Re: Have you noticed this since now?« on: August 21, 2009, 12:54 »When sales are going well on the SS, on the other agencies usually is very slow, but when goes well on IS, DT, FT, etc., then on the SS is pretty bad ... I use a service that tracks my stats at 10+ agencies. I have noticed that sales average the same but you are right, they fluctuate between agencies. When SS is really down, others go way up, keeping about the same leverage. I wonder if it's the same core of buyers shifting their purchasing or just a fluke. 9
General Photography Discussion / Re: Week long backpacking trip - Which lenses?« on: August 21, 2009, 12:50 »
I recently returned from shooting in the Sierras. I had a 14mm fisheye, the 28-70 2.8 and my 28-300 Canon L glass lens with me. The weight was hard BUT there were shots I would have missed had I not brought those exact lenses. I guess ask yourself how mad you would be if you missed a certain opportunity because you wanted to lighten your pack Have fun!!

This camera is the bomb! I've had it since December and still get amazed using it in low light conditions.....
I like your unscientific test 16
General Stock Discussion / Re: Did a Test at IStock« on: August 18, 2009, 11:06 »
I have the same problem at IS. I upload only a few at a time with about a half hour inbetween because I have noticed it depends on what reviewer I get. Since I batch upload through Aperture, if I get a reviewer who doesn't like me, they all get rejected. When I "batch" only a few at a time with space inbetween, I get better luck.
I did bring it up on their site, once, and miraculously my sales tanked since then. Who knows why but anyways...... Oh and scout has always worked for me even though it's only a few here and there.... I so feel your pain 17

I am not sure if they would help you or not but Smugmug is a lot like Better photo and they have been awesome for me! Smugmug
You can get your own domain and have galleries there for your clients with passwords etc... or not, simple to complex it's pretty nice (for me anyways!) Just thought I'd mention it. Good luck! 23
Off Topic / Re: What would you do if you earned $10,000/month from micro« on: April 30, 2009, 15:09 »
I am on my way to making that milestone. If it was there, I could bust my hump to double that as fast as I could! And in between all of that, I would take exotic trips that would bring me good revenue in stock photography
