Need a new post "This is how you get your portfolio removed from Dissolve."

It would be VERY useful for a lot of people who want to get theirs removed from Dissolve.

2
I got my account approved on Dissolve, but never got around to uploading.  Glad I didn't.  I just feel like they're slimy for doing things the way they did.

And now that I've got most of my portfolio on VideoBlocks, I'm enjoying steady sales there.

Most of my microstock friends have told me they will no longer upload new content to Dissolve, though most are making enough sales to not deactivate their portfolios.

It's the same with iStock, most people I know stopped uploading new content and when sales eventually dried up, they removed their portfolios.  Dissolve will likely suffer the same fate as most producers will stop submitting new content and eventually they'll pull their existing content leaving Dissolve an empty hulk.

I will shoot your video with my equipment, edit the video and then upload it to your account for free.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is Shutterstock for real???
« on: October 12, 2015, 07:04 »
When I joined Shutterstock, I bypassed all of the BS by contacting them ahead of time, giving them a link to my portfolio and then arranging to send them a hard drive with a CSV file.  They did all the work importing everything and I had like a 99.9% approval.  Of the 8 files they rejected, I simply re-uploaded them and got 6 accepted with no edits.

Yeah, that's definitely an unbiased review...   :o

Pond5 / Re: Ways they review
« on: October 11, 2015, 20:05 »
Reviews on Pond5 are no more erratic than anywhere else... I've had stuff rejected on SS and IS that are big sellers on Pond5 and Dreamstime.

One thing to remember is that MOST sites offer a way to request a re-review.  You just have to plead your case.  When I ask for a re-review of rejected files on Pond5, I have a 90% success rate.  But I make sure to be specific about why the first reviewer was wrong.

Same with SS, I've been pretty successful getting rejections reversed there as well.

It's all derived from Fotolia, right?

When they stopped letting us price or own stuff, I went from several hundred Euro a month to 1 to 3 sales a month.  But in the past 6 months I've only had one sale.

Whoever is running things there is an idiot.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:18 »
Here's what I see from my vantage point...

I had the opportunity to speak with them at NAB this year and they talked a big game and made all kinds of "promises".  They "sounded" like they had their act together.  But clearly, from this move, they do not.

A lot of agencies have sprouted offering all kinds of promises and then going back on those promises when they felt the need.  And most of those agencies are gone now.  This type of move by Dissolve signals that path for their business.  They are starting to discount clips to build a lot of cash for when they shut down.

I expect them to completely deny it, and they may even be just making a bad business decision that they'll realize at some point and fix.  But this move clearly is a major erosion of TRUST between contributors and Dissolve.  It leads me to believe that they do not have a solid business plan and are reacting when they should be WORKING to improve their site, which they clearly HAVE NOT done.

How do you define inferior product?

I define it as NOT providing buyers with the same features and services that other agencies do.

Shutterstock offers a paid service for their agents locating media.  So, if I don't have time to do the research on clips for a project, I can pay them to do it.  And they do a GREAT job of it.  Pond5, for certain clients, will do the same thing for free.

The shopping experience on other sites is also quicker and easier.  It's obvious from the lack of activity on the back end that Dissolve does not have a solid developer working for them... I'd guess they bid the site out to the lowest bidder from a third-world country.

Although, they did pay a top-rate "designer" because the site sure does look pretty.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update

It seems a lot of people missed the message between the lines...

Shutterstock and other sites continue to successfully sell at higher prices because they provide a superior product.  Dissolve cannot provide a similarly superior product experience for buyers, therefore they are going down the discount pricing street.

I should also point out that Dissolve made certain promises to producers in order to build their library and they are now going back on those promises.  Not a court in the land that would let any contract between them and a submitter stand when they broke the contract themselves.

Pond5 and Shutterstock are the biggest sellers for most producers because they don't (or very rarely) screw over the people who feed them content.  You can see sites like iStock going downhill because of crap like this that they've pulled.  Is THAT REALLY the model Dissolve wants to follow?

You're taking 70% of someone else's hard work.  The reason why most producers put up with that is because they believe that money will go towards marketing, customer service and the things that attract buyers.  What it sounds like is that you don't know how to compete, so you're starting the process of cashing out.

« on: June 03, 2014, 16:45 »
Thank you very much.  That's exactly what I was looking for.

I have some questions, if you don't mind.

Does it work with embedded meta-data?  I got used to embedding the title, description and keywords in my video files since most agencies support embedded metadata.

Does it do the work of embedding the metadata (so that I can use your program instead of what I'm using now)?

Is there a link to the pricing?  I couldn't find one on your site.

Thanks!

I file a fraud complaint with my local D.A. and got a case number.  Then I faxed that to the local magistrate in Norway.  They responded that they'd look into it, but I'm not hopeful anything will actually happen.

What is really incredible is that they continue to sell and collect money without paying anyone.  Blatantly out in the open, stealing from artists and nothing can be done about it, it seams.

I haven't been able to find a full description of what StockSubmitter is and what it does.  Or any costs associated with it.

I am primarily interested in Video capabilities.

Pixmac / Re: Pixmac merges with Pond5
« on: April 03, 2013, 16:11 »
So content uploaded to Pixmac would be curated faster?  Because it now takes a month+ to get anything curated on Pond5 and it's getting worse, not better.

I figured it out, I needed to be using \s for whitespace... duh.  It's been a long time since I did regular expressions.

I'm trying to create a poller for RevoStock and I can't figure out how to account for a line-break/carriage return.
Code: [Select]
Earnings Account:</td>
<td .................>

There's a line break between the closing TD and the next opening TD. I tried using \b but that didn't work.

Which RegEx engine does the toolbar use? Is there a link to documentation for it?

Dreamstime.com / Re: New DT 2012 Pricing Structure
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:06 »
I think I'd be more upset if DT actually sold anything...  I have a slightly larger still portfolio on DT than I do SS and SS outsells DT by a factor of 14 to 1.  Heck, Flickr outsells DT almost 2 to 1.

PicNiche Toolbar / Picniche.com down?
« on: December 08, 2011, 08:44 »
I had to re-install Windows, etc... and when I re-installed the picNiche toolbar, I can't download any custom pollers and the picniche.com web site appears to be down.

DepositPhotos / Re: Is it worth it uploading to Deposit Photos?
« on: September 15, 2011, 04:07 »
They have accepted everything that SS has accepted plus a few more...  And I am lucky to get one sub sale a month there while I make payout on SS every month.  The site doesn't sell, or has a different clientele than what I do.

General - Stock Video / Re: Inspection times for video
« on: September 15, 2011, 03:54 »
ShutterStock is up to about a week now... Ever since IS pulled this last stunt, review times have slowed down as I suspect many artists fed up with IS are uploading to SS.

Pond5 fluctuates between 3 to 5 weeks.  They got very behind, started to catch up, had a server crash and are now a month behind again.

If you shoot editorial, both Pond5 and SS have procedures for getting faster reviews on timely news-worthy clips.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Doesn't dreamstime pisses you off lately?
« on: September 15, 2011, 03:45 »
I'm not sure what DT customers are buying... Of the 120ish files I have on SS, DT has accepted 85 of them and SS sales are over 20 times that of DT.

Plus, I'm having to resubmit a lot of stuff lately because the reviewers are idiots or lazy...  This was rejected for a copyright issue:

While it's similar brothers were not.  Doesn't matter where you go, you run into reviewers who are morons.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Revised Artists Supply Agreement
« on: August 29, 2011, 16:56 »
If you delete your portfolio and still have outstanding earnings, you lose that, right?  So I'm better off leaving it there until I earn my next payout and then deleting my portfolio, right?
