Hi all,
I made a lingerie calendar for beauty pageant contestant and she agrees to let me sell the images as stock. The lingerie we used were loaners from a high end store in return for there business info to be printed on the calendar.
Since this is expensive lingerie, and not generic, i wonder if i need a property release to sell the images.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've had 2.
One with over 450 sales on ss alone.
The other made me about 200 in stock sales and another 300 for selling the rights after i had been contacted through istock.
None of these where people images, and they where both made with my old D50 and crap plastic lenses.
My portfolio is at about 300 images but adding about 50/week now that my studio is finally finished.

I sold one RF image when I only had 8 in my portfolio. Sold for $420 of which I got $233.

Thanks for the explination Yingyang0. I understand it now.
I know microstock is a numbers game and you can't look at an individual sale but it still stings a bit. I guess its best just not to think about it to much. Microstock is still my passion and I will be going fulltime in three months. I just signed a contract to rent a 250m2 studio space.

No, I don't have this image on BS. It is for sale at a couple others sites but as I stated before the TOS doesn't seem to allow this type of use on any of the sites under the standard lisence.
The image is used full page with only a little bit of text in the lower right corner. Its a book about how to choose which breed of dog to buy and how to raise it. I would have no problem with it if the image was used in a smaller size and with more text, but right know the image seems to be the main focus.
So no it is not an actual photo book, but the photo is a very important part of it.
I would show you the page but the only place to view it is on tv for about 0.5sec
This just doesn't feel right. If only 5% of the people who watch the show buy the book they will have made 1million euros(minus costs offcourse). My cut is 20cents for a full page spread.
I'm pretty sure it was bought through SS. I'll contact them and see how they feel about it. If I get an answer that is.

I read the shutterstock license and as far as I understand it this isn't allowed under the standard license.
You can use an image up to 250.000 copies for promotional items, not for items that are for sale. But I could be wrong on this.
And your right, I don't won't to raise hell untill I am sure. That's why I wanted some other peoples opinions.

Hi, It is being used in a book(full page) about a very popular tv show about dogs on one of the most popular channels in Belgium. The commercial showed a few pages of the book and one of them had my image on it. I was very excited at first but then realised that the image has never been sold under the extended license. I'm pretty sure this isn't legal but wanted your opinions before I start raising hell. Any idea on how I should handle this? How do you upload vectors? When i upload a jpeg and an eps file, they don't show up in the to review list, they just seem to dissapear.

I also don't think its a good idea to mention the amount of photos you have per gallerie since the amounts are so small. When i see that i wouldn't bother uploading because i'd know i wouldn't get alot of sales. Its also a big turn of for potential buyers as they wil think the chances of finding exactly with they want in sutch a small collection are minimal.
The site design itself could aso use some work. It gives me an amateurish and cheap vibe. Check out the design on sites like schutterstock, dreamstime and istock. There the biggest players and i believe there website design has alot to do with it. Most new stock sites have trouble finding photographers so why not lucky oliver? Because they have a great looking design and people feel as if they might succeed. It gives them a professional feeling.
So spend alot of money on redesigning your website and you will increase your chances of succeeding enormosly in my opinion. Go to several bussinesses and have them make you a design. Don't stop looking untill it is absolutely perfect. Also stay away from those type of "camera logo's", or atleast make a fun and new version of it like istock and shutterstock did.

hey,
I'm also new to stock photography. I found it easier to get accepted bu shutterstock then Istock. I have 19 images in my shutterstock gallery and sold 19 in about a week and a half. I only have 4 in my istock gallery. They seem to reject everything i submit.
Anyways if you have problems just read the forums and do google searches. Although it is not the answer learning a few photoshop techniques defenatly wouldn't hurt. They help the newbie getting those images the way you would have wanted them to be in camera. Its no solution but it helps to get your pictures accepted while you learn to shoot better in camera.
