123RF / Getting paid by 123RF
« on: March 11, 2013, 13:56 »
Evening all

I believe that I have finally reached the minimum payout on 123RF. How does it work on getting them to pay you?

Is there somewhere you request it?

Is the minimum $50?

Is there somewhere where I have to specify that I want it paid into Paypal?

Thanks for any advice!

Personally? Non-existant!

I've done miles better on Shutterstock. Nothing approaching any kind of wage but enough to keep me shooting which is what matters! Couldn't stand the thought of having to go to work for someone else.

However, I did start to have sales kick in with Getty earlier this year. Had a very nice sale of an image at around $900 gross! Shame that the % is biased to them but hey, for a very ordinary shot of some horses that's not too shabby :D

Alamy.com / What's the benefits of different Pseudonyms?
« on: December 07, 2012, 02:53 »
SSIA really.

Currently, I just upload images under one but is there any advantages of dividing this out into a best of and general one?

Would like to get more sales on Alamy and I'm interested to know what I can to help this along.

Thanks as always!

That's useful, thanks :)

I was beginning to wonder if it was worth it.

I'm with a few RM distributors such as Robert Harding and Arcaid which have started to bring in some cash. Getty is so far the one that is outshining everyone else at the moment and I've been trying to get as much in there as I can. Currently satt at just over 1000 images both RM and RF with the majority at RM.

Thanks Sue. I'm aware of the consequences.

Looked at a few others such as Masterfile but they want exclusivity. The only one that came close was Corbis but I wasn't sure if they would or wouldn't take files as non-exclusive.

Hi there

I'm currently a member of Alamy and make the odd sale there. What I was wondering though is can I put my RM stuff anywhere else apart from Alamy?

What other non-exclusive RM libraries are out there?

Thanks for any help.

General Stock Discussion / Pocketstock - who are they?
« on: September 14, 2012, 13:34 »
Evening all

Just opened my emails to an "invitation" to join Pocketstock.

Apparently, if I sign up within 7 days then I'll get a 40% commission rate rather than the regular 30%.

I haven't heard of them but has anyone else? is it genuine? Are they any good?

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up!

Curiosity, what sort of price do you set for a RF video?

Thanks for that! I'll go have a poke around on the sites and adjust accordingly :)

Pond5 / Price setting at Pond5
« on: July 03, 2012, 04:18 »
Hi there

I've recently made the jump to adding videos into my stock work.

When I upload stuff to Pond5 it auto-fills in a price of $1. Now, I know you can set your own price but what happens if you tick the Set The Price For Me option? Do they just take that $1 that was auto-filled in or do they overwrite it with what they think is right?

Newbie Discussion / Extended licenses questions
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:26 »
Morning all

Yesterday, i received the monthly newsletter and something caught my eye that led me to extended licenses.

My questions are:

1) Should I be selling my images with ELs?

2) Will it harm sales?

3) With regards to Shutterstock, IStock and Dreamstime is there somewhere you can set this? I've seen it on Fotolia but haven't spotted it on the other three.

Thanks

Jools

Well, I'm happy to report that this image has now made it through the QC process ;D

Thanks for everyone's help!

Models!

Not me. I stray away from people in my photos.

If you're talking business model then that's another thing entirely!

Great!

The general consensus is to go for it!

I know it's a lot of work but I'll be trying to replicate my work on those main sites.

Afternoon all

I have a curious question to you all.

When it comes to Microstock images, if you had 100 images with one particular library such as Dreamstime, would you then put those same 100 images on other sites such as Fotolia; IStockPhoto and Shutterstock?

Do you think this is a bad thing?

OK. So how about I put something like this:

LONDON - JULY 2007: The Houses of Parliament in Westminster is the meeting place of the British government. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in London.

Thanks.

I did read what you have just posted after the first fail. Corrected it for the second time and they still said the caption was wrong ???

Hi folks

I'm trying to get one of my images up on Shutterstock through the editorial root. It can't go up any other way as to try and Photoshop out some of the artwork in it would ruin the image.

It's already on Dreamstime but Shutterstock keep refusing it on the grounds of the "Editorial Caption - proper format needed".

This is the image. It was taken on 21 July 2007. Can anyone help out as to what caption I should actually be putting?

Thanks for anyhelp.

Photo Critique / Re: Does my stock portfolio stand a chance?
« on: February 03, 2012, 12:58 »
I looked at your Getty portfolio as well as iStock and DT. The thing that struck me was that it looked like you'd done exactly what you said - sent the RM rejects to microstock.

I wouldn't argue with trying to make the most out of your work, but I would suggest that you won't see much return from the microstock agencies with that approach. I found your Getty portfolio visually appealing and the microstock images not so much. You might find that some other work that doesn't suit the RM agencies might be a better microstock option for you - perhaps you have access to a location or some gear that might give you useful images for the micros.

Thanks jsnover.

Surely, what you have said is the name of the game. To make images that are visually appealing.

The stuff that I have with the microstock is really there because I would rather it was somewhere than just sat on my HD. If it happens to make some cash, great!

Location wise. It's odd you mention it. The first image I sold with PhotoLibrary sold because it is one of the better images out there of a particular location. Most everything else I have seen is quite ordinary.

Thank you for your comments on my work at Kingston Lacy. It is an area that I know particularly well and have shot numerous times.

Just managed to have a batch of them approved on Getty as RM.

I know that with my landscape work I'm fighting quite a tough battle. However, landscape photography here in France doesn't seem to be as huge as it is over in the UK. Well, not from I've seen anyway.

Is my work average? Depends who you ask. There is the potential that I'm going to be sent off to Morocco in a couple of weeks in order to illustrate a book by a major publisher. They liked my work enough to consider me.
