and what if Pinterest starts offering printing services ? with each photo they can pretty well make something like RedBubble if they wanted and make billions, all without giving a crap about copyright.

this company has nothing to do with pinterest
it's more or less something like http://www.pastbook.com/en/ for facebook

How do I know that these are third-party companies? I don't.

"We have 2 newsletters this month. The second will be beefy and filled with all sorts of information and clarity on a wide range of issues - or so I am told.

As previously mentioned, I will make sure to update this thread as soon as I have more on the matter."

"In my case, my photo was turned into an illustration and then put on the Microsoft site. I thought only the Copyright owner, and by contract the end users, were the only ones allowed to modify a photo (I will have to go read all the agreements again). So did iStock, or Microsoft, or who, make the (illegal?) modifications?"

"I want to give my fellow contributor a heads up about two things.

First, I've found one of my Vetta/Getty images being redistributed on an HD wallpaper website. I found it using Google's Search-by-image. I would encourage you to periodically search for your images this way. You never know what you might find.

The second thing I wanted to pass along concerns how I believe this particular image was obtained. Apparently we have a program with Microsoft that permits them to purchase a special license and redistribute our images. A couple of months this image received a large EL through Getty. Shortly afterwards I found the image on Microsofts site, as a downloadable Windows 7 wallpaper and as part of a downloadable Windows 7 theme."

Wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! =)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Ideas for Exclusives

I'm very interested in those templates for Zazzle also! I have a solid idea for a shop there. I'm also uploading photography to Fine Art America, which sounds like the best site out there to sell prints from (newly uploaded images auto-synching to Facebook wall...huge plus). I looked into Spoonflower, which sells fabric with your designs on it, but it sounds like it is extremely hard to make money there, because you have to proof each fabric swatch before it can be offered for sale, and that's not free.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: End of Year IS review Statistics
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:09 »
Getty's track record doesn't give me any reason to hold out hope IS will ever improve.  Maybe my experience with StockXpert has left me cynical, but I can't help but think they are actually trying to push out all the contributors so they can use the brand name iStockphoto for older Getty images they wholly own.  They get 100% of the royalties for those images and minimal labor is involved.  Moving Getty images onto iStock is cheap and efficient.

That is a frightening theory that I had not yet heard of.

A very valid theory. Check this out: Dorian Kindersley.

From Wikipedia: "Dorling Kindersley (DK) is an international publishing company specializing in illustrated reference books for adults and children in 51 languages. It is currently part of the Penguin Group.
Established in 1974, Dorling Kindersley publishes a range of titles in genres including travel, (including Eyewitness Travel Guides), history, cooking, gardening, and parenting. They also publish a childrens catalogue for children, toddlers and babies, covering such topics as history, the human body, animals, and activities.
DK has offices in New York, London, Munich, New Delhi, Toronto, and Australia."

Clearly, they're not an individual istock illustrator who just happened to get all their images approved to Getty's Agency collection. The images started at Getty and then were moved to Istock.
