Wow, that's amazing...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Fraud going down at IS
« on: December 29, 2010, 02:59 »
Maybe this has already been discussed and I missed it or it was just subtle and I didn't get it.

Why would someone steal credit cards and buy stock photos???  They did 4 of mine of a crashed truck but how are they going to turn all that theft into money in their pockets?  I think I remember reading about someone saying putting all the images on discs and selling them on the streets of China but how is that worth it?  All this effort for what?

Wow, that was kind of depressing...

Congrats Magnum on the sale, this thread was really a fun read especially with all the back and forth.

I think the insurance thing is fairly normal.  I have photo business insurance and it covers me for stuff like that.  I think it typically is when you are working in their area or whatever but along the same lines.

Will you be able to reference them as a client?  That might be useful to depending on what they do.

Congratulations again though!

Well, hopefully I'm not wrong because my understanding is that once you have the images down and the accounts closed/deactivated/opt out I was under the impression that you could go exclusive.  I'm planning on mashing the button on that Jun 6 once I can take all my last bit of images off dreamstime.  I would then remove Ft and opt out on shutter stock...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Yuri admits he's losing money !

Hmm, I wonder if Yuri could stop producing images, close up shop and move to Hawaii and retire on his earnings even at a RPI of $3US?  Granted he wouldn't be able to bring everything with him.

I always uploaded the same size to all sites, but increasingly I think it'd be worth thinking about giving SS a 6MP image and keeping the full size version for sites that pay for it.

Heck, I do it because my bandwidth is not great and it would take forever to send full size files and I'm only shooting with a 12MP camera.  I only send full size images to IS and downsize everything else.  But I'm on the countdown to go exclusive with IS.  I've always done better there and with the exclusive increases in royalties, prices and uploads I'll break even or even earn more than sending to multiple sites.

You know the funny part...  I always submit a model release.  If there is a human in the picture (hand, arm, leg, whatever) I submit a release.  I figure it's just easier...  But, if I do that with Dreamstime they will reject the same image because I've included a model release.  Kind of weird...

Anyway, cool concept shot, hope it does well when you get it online!

Yuri -

Your thread has ended up on John Harrington's Blog.  He isn't a big fan of microstock or the people who market in that arena.  On the post he referenced Lee Torrens specifically discussing this thread.

Anyway thought you would be interested when your topics are being bantered around...

not too sure about that, but there is a pretty attractive deal if you have a canon camera.

adobe photoshop canon deal

this is what i used when i bought photoshop

If you change replace the link catCanon to catNikon it comes up too.  It check's your Elements serial number so just pop it in there to make sure it is "valid" and if everything goes through then buy!  A co-worker of mine put in his Elements serial number using the Nikon link and a few days later he had his full version of photoshop CS2.

Another option - which is almost the same price is the educational discount.  It is a bit more of a pain because you have to sign up for a class - but if can help reduce the cost.  I waited about a year to purchase CS2 and I have been extremely happy since doing it.  For the most part you can do almost everything with elements - but the full version is just amazing.
