Newbie Discussion / Re: Fashion in microstock

I am lost here, I don't think you need any advice from us, if you really want it just jump in and see it yourself!

OTOH why would you want to get into microstock if you are doing just fine outside it or that is not the case? are you willing to quit freelancing if you can reach 800$ in microstock? does that mean you were doing 800$? if so I would seriously drop the job but looking at your site I can see a 25k $ camera ;D

Well to be honest I'm kind tired of freelancing and working with art directors and doing the whole marketing/meeting stuff everyday day so doing something new is very appealing to me. I set 800/month more as a acceptable income in the next few months/years to come if I were to start doing this new type of photography business.

Thank you for the input! I've been a little bit skeptical about going in to microstock for quite a while but the other day I checked in on my old DT account and I had 280 downloads with my 60 images (over a long period of time) and got really interested. From what I've read it's kinda "late" to try and make decent money with stock because of saturation.

Also wondering how many pictures is a professional "microstocker" uploading / month, maybe there's a article someone can point me to regarding things like this and ROI/image etc.

EDIT: Just found Microstock insider, seems to be a great read!

Regards

Hi,

I'm currently working as a freelance photographer doing mostly portrait/fashion and some corporate photography and now want to get more in to the microstock world. What are peoples experiences in selling fashion images and do you think it would be viable to focus only on this?

I consider myself a intermediate photographer and also live in a cheap country(Malaysia) so a profit of 800usd/month would be more then enough to make it doable for me. So do you think quitting freelancing and focusing on microstock is possible? I'd appreciate any input I can get!

Have a look on my portfolio www.emilginang.com,

Kind regards

Emil

It's quality images and all the websites is in English so probably not what you think :S you can even search for specific categories and you get fresh stuff, kinda worrying.

Hey guys, after lurking around here for quite some time now I finally decided to make a thread as I've recently discovered something quite disturbing. A few days ago I was surfing around and found this website where you can download thousands of stock images for free, these where photos from various sites such as istock and rf123 etc. I also noticed the network they were connected with that included 20+ sites that did the same thing.

Is there something that can be done about this? Would a report to some of the agencys make a difference? Apparently these website has been running for quite some time and it's really sad to see that many pictures being out there for free.

Regards
