The Teddy Bear was filled with noise in the corner at 100%.  That was one of the funny things.  After reading all the back and forth and then seeing that the guy was full of it.

I've been spending some time today reading the forum on Shutterstock.  Between the 1600 ISO conversation and the guy whining about rejections I couldn't stop laughing.  Another fun destination added to my web surfing.

I feel your pain.  I've done everything listed.  Also once when on vacation and shooting jpgs I had the WB set to indoor and shot in Maui for two days on the beach like that.  Didn't save most of those miscolored shots.

Adobe Stock / Re: Confused on rejection letter from Fotolia

I find the rejection/acceptance process random at best on all six sites where I submit photos.  If one site rejects I just move on.  I'll usually get a photo on at least four of the six sites, rarely less than four and sometimes more than four.  Really, no pattern to it at all.

I'm getting used to it.  I only upload my limit of 20 a week anyway.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Noise Reduction Software?
« on: September 22, 2006, 15:45 »

I am inexperienced where shooting settings are concerned (frankly, they overwhelm me).  When you say 100 -- that is in regards to the ISO, correct?  Are there any negative results to shooting at that low a setting?  If so what should I look out for?

Unfortunately I can't use a tripod -- I need to move around way to much.

I think there are trade-offs between all the camera settings.  Ideally, I would like to be able to shoot at ISO 100, 1/125 or 1/250 (I'm a shakey guy), and f/8 for everyday things (unless looking for specific effects).  Not always the case based on lighting, etc.

I use Noise Ninja on it's own layer and at the lowest level that will take off the noise toward the edges.  After, I manually mask the parts of the photo that didn't need the noise reduction.  It's not a time consuming as it may sound.  I also do the same with sharpening, if at all.  I'll select the main subject or parts of the photo and then only shapen them using a mask.  I'll also lower the opacity on the sharpened layer if necessary.  Whatever combo works best for a particular photo.  So far so good.

I've changed my mind. I just uploaded a photo to IS and YES it is too much work.  I'm going to stay on the sidelines and at other sites until they make it easier to add photos.  I'll pull my hair out selecting categories and checking off key words that are linked to my imbedded key words. They won't miss me and I won't miss them.

I have 20 photos waiting for IS.  All 20 have already been approved (or rejected) at the four other sites I use and I have had some downloads already. (finally some downloads are starting  :))  I have to have a bunch of extra time on my hands to go through the headache upload process.  I will keep doing it on a "have the time" basis.  I otherwise like that site and will stay with them.  I am optimistic that they will simplify things when the high earning exclusives make enough noise.  They rightfully shouldn't give a hoot what I think at my level of participation currently.

I get about 50% acceptance on DT, maybe around 70% on IS, and upwards of 95% on the other three.  I still send all five all of my photos that "I" think are worth selling.

Everything worth doing in life is difficult and then the rewards feel great.  A relative who is now a successful novelist took about ten years to get rolling in that profession.

Thank you for the welcome and the advice.  I'll keep plugging along.  I was posting to photo sharing sites for fun before this and  MS is hobby income (well not yet) for me.

One of my current sample portfolios is here:

General Stock Discussion / Anyone Else Like Me Here?
« on: September 19, 2006, 18:24 »
Anyone else on this group new to Microstock?  I have between 20 and 50 photos on five different sites and have made three sales total.  My pictures don't suck so I know it will pick up with time and more of a varied portfolio.  Does anyone (beginner or veteran) have any success/failure stories or advice for others like me?

I'm currently posting to IS,DT,Foto,BS, and 123.  I'm waiting to resub to SS in a week or two.

Thanks.

New Sites - General / Re: Houser Stock Photos
« on: September 18, 2006, 21:11 »
I'm wondering how many MS sites the market can handle before the failures, mergers, take-overs start which result in the biggest five MS sites surviving.  It's going to come down to quality of photos for the buyers and ease of use for the contributors.  I'm finding five sites too much work for the pennies and am going to whittle down to a smaller amount soon.

U/L, Keywording, Categorizing, etc is a PITA!

I was looking at new uploads today.  I saw abstracts going through.  They were called "abstract in blue" or something like that.  What is considered an abstract anyway?

Well that's cool because I have to pack and move anyway this weekednd.  Thought I would take some moving pictures if any present themselves. Do you think the noob 20 photo U/L limit will rise after the queue is cleared?

Site Related / Re: Forum Policy
« on: September 14, 2006, 14:52 »
I don't "think" the site would be responsible for libelous statements made -- but I'm not an attorney.  I like when people are honest and write what they think.  I do that but with restraint.  In other words if I make a strong statement I try to say it in a non-libelous way.

Back to your question.  I think if you find a statement on the site that worries you then you should delete it.

Here's my basic starting collection.  There is a similar set with one or two differences on four other sites.

Anyway, going forward I'll take some more "stock" shots when doing my regular around the place photography.  If you want to view and comment that would be great.

Thanks GWB

Thanks again to Leaf for setting up this site a much faster source of information than asking the sites directly

Yes, thanks for this site set-up.  It allows some semi-anonymous question asking about the sites offsite.  I've learned quite a bit reading posts here.

General Stock Discussion / Getting Views and then Downloads
« on: September 11, 2006, 15:16 »
Hi, I've only been uploading to MS sites for about 1/2 month.  I have from 20 down to 8 images on sites depending upon their review and acceptance rates.  I have very few views and one download.  I understand that I am competing with 1,000,000 other images on most of these sites for view time.

What has been your experience in getting views/downloads (besides worthy photos)?  Is it a numbers game and I need 100's on a site before action starts?  Is it a key word game and I need to make sure I have 50 to 70 keywords per photo?  Is it something else?

Thanks for your input.

General Stock Discussion / Street Shots as Editorial?
« on: September 06, 2006, 22:35 »
I have a few series of street shots of interesting people in crowds.  Are these OK to market as editorial shots if they have an explanation of the scene.  Does anyone know the legalities and/or the place to market such shots?

OK, thanks.

I've been wondering the legality of the minimum payout.  I was thinking that all unpaid funds would have to be escheated to the State of the person not being paid.  I'm not sure it is OK to keep someone's earnings based on a minimum.

No cloning out of brand names either because everything I submit to Alamy is Rights managed.

I'm new to stock photography.  Would you mind explaining why you can use brand names with rights managed?  Thanks.
