General Stock Discussion / Re: What a nice gesture!!
« on: August 21, 2012, 13:21 »
Lovely experience!  Very nice that your friend remembers the part you played in his success.  Hope you enjoyed Cornwall!  :)

When living in London, 23 years, I had a summer place down in Cornwall, not far from Polppero. Typical pirate country, where Enid Blyton set her famous Five books. Beautyful.

The Famous Five books were my most, absolute favorite books as a child!  Most Americans had never heard of her or the series.  I totally wanted to be George!

General Photography Discussion / Re: printing greeting cards

As mentioned previously, Zazzle is a great place.  I sell a lot of cards on Zazzle.  I don't have to do any marketing, I don't have to store or print anything, and everything is shipped and taken care of by them.  Win/win for me.
Here's my store: http://www.zazzle.com/shroudedlake

Thank you so much!

Now that the Fotolia website is more confusing than ever, WHERE do I find what my ranking currently is?  I can't seem to find it anywhere...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Yuri new studio..!
« on: February 24, 2011, 14:43 »
What a wonderful studio!  I just love the wood molding, beautiful floors, columns and ceiling tiles!  Yummy!  The lighting is very nice and impressive as well.  Oooh, so have that much space and not trip over a prop, or the cat, or my grandson.... !

I submitted a bunch of photos on the 2nd as a new user, and they still have not been reviewed.  Won't get a bonus if they don't review them.

Lol, I don't want to sound rude, but at least they could hire some real photographer to make nicer photographs, ;D

LOL talk about ironic!

Software - General / Re: Adobe on Ebay
« on: September 15, 2010, 20:56 »
I bought a copy of PhotoShop CS3 (maybe CS4) sold through Amazon about a year ago.  New in the box, unopened, etc.  Got it, installed it, and everything worked except one thing.  The keyboard shortcuts would not work.  I kept trying to reset them, and they simply would not work.  I use the keyboard shortcuts for nearly EVERYTHING in PhotoShop... I couldn't even tell you where most things are in the menu.

I finally did some research and found out it was a bogus copy of PhotoShop.  A very good bogus copy, as it had all the look and feel of the real thing.  It even came with the manual and the other expected documents in the box.  It's just that the keyboard shortcuts wouldn't work.

I complained to the seller, and she gave me a story of how sometimes the provider doesn't realize that they're bogus and sells them to her.  She did apologize and give me a refund, however!

I waited until Adobe themselves had a Christmas special on their site and bought PhotoShop directly from them.  I didn't dare buy it from anyone else at that point.

So, just be cautious of the source.

Off Topic / Re: Neck, Back etc.
« on: August 11, 2010, 21:22 »
Thanks, I put in an order for the book.  I had spinal surgery a couple of years ago.  I'm no longer in a wheelchair, but now and then my back cramps up which brings me to my knees (one of which I had replaced a year ago).  So getting the muscles to relax would be a great benefit.  Thanks!

Thanks Randy for the feedback!  At least now I know they're not banned forever, lol.  So, they're off to a nice vacation, and I'm off searching in my creativity box for my next idea.  I can certainly understand why the reviewers could be tired of seeing the same props over and over; it didn't occur to me that only one or two people might be reviewing my photos.  I'll try to mix it up better in the future.

15
I feel sorry for the poor chap that has to cross-reference everyone's files to see if they've submitted any photo with that particular prop.
They use some tools for that.  :P - Small hint: EXIF date/time info, metadata match.
(PS - great port!)

Thanks so much!

As for the exif info, these shots weren't taken in the same series, or the same date, or anything the same other than my wooden guys.  Shrug, the loopholes we need to jump through just to get a few images approved to get our .05$... Well, at least I understand this loophole a little better.

And Gostwyck, I was wondering the same thing as there are several contributors out there that only use one or two main figures for their images.  I guess I just need to get more creative.

16
As a follow-up, I was told that I had too many images incorporating my little wooden men as human-stand-ins (regardless of concepts), and that I needed to diversify into other areas.

So, in summary, I'm in the same boat of being able to use one prop for only one image ... good grief.  Not very realistic, but apparently this is their reality.  I feel sorry for the poor chap that has to cross-reference everyone's files to see if they've submitted any photo with that particular prop.  I try not to use similar names for files (object+date), but maybe I should start naming them via concept instead of subject.

17
I sent in an email.  We'll see what happens.  I'm still scratching my head...  Well, life goes on.

But it's frustrating when it now affects the upload limit and then they penalize you for having similars of items of different subjects.  Makes me wonder... if I have an image of a wheelchair that I can never again have an image involving a wheelchair even if it is under a different context?  Pretty soon, yes, everything in the world will have been photographed.  Who keeps tabs on this stuff?

18
Sigh.  I had my entire submission for the week rejected, all with the same reason.  Too many photos/illustrations on the same subject or from the same series.  I don't shoot models, and mostly shoot isolated objects.  Most of the objects in this particular shoot were new items I had just purchased, so I don't see how I could have had too many of the same subject or series when each was individually different involving completely different concepts (i.e., one was with a wheelchair, another with antique gears spilling out of a treasure box, etc).   Unless they mean my human representative wooden model.  Geeze, really?  But they even rejected the ones without him.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I haven't had my entire submission rejected since I started.

Well, that was exhausting.  I think I'll have some salad.  And some ice cold water.  Yeah.  And maybe a nap.

StockXpert.com / Re: RIP Stockxpert...
« on: February 03, 2010, 14:24 »
It's so sad to see them go.  I had started as a junior photographer on their free site, with aspirations to become good enough to apply to StockXpert.  I only had 585 photos on the sxc.hu site, and as of today, I've had 311,347 downloads.

A year or so ago I finally applied to, and was accepted by, StockXpert, and have learned so much from them.  It was my first site, my first paycheck, my starting team.

I have several thousand photos on StockXpert, but no iStock account, as they've rejected me several times by asking to see more of my work, which I supply, then they ask for more.... again.  I have a photo studio now, but no models.  I may have to start with the paperwork I've been dreading for models, only to be asked for more from iStock... sigh.

I enjoy Jonathan's posts.  Also did an internet search on the Red One system.... way outta my league.  My business model is: take cheap pictures; sell cheap pictures.
:-)

I agree wholeheartedly.

I also did a google search for the Red One system, and just about fell out of my chair (and made a co-worker peek over my cubicle wall when I gasped loudly)!  That's worth more than my car.  Wow, I admire the fact you got to see it in action... It sounds extremely impressive!

22
Wow, that sounds like a wonderful opportunity!  I've been spending time off and on in "a very cool medical facility in Seattle" so I'm curious if it's the same one.  One of these days I'll be at that stage for shooting models in facilities, but for now it's smaller steps for me.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Favourite time of year
« on: September 18, 2009, 13:14 »
I love the fall, as it gets rainy and nasty, and I can make less excuses of staying in my studio instead of going outside.

Never tried a beard, but I nearly got arrested with my cane and camera.  I guess a greying 40+ woman with a cane is extremely suspicious and threatening, lol!

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
« on: June 25, 2009, 12:19 »
Pennywise, look carefully at the photos and you will see a blue link which says "more" double click on this and it will give you the rejection reason.  Its very subtle and you would miss it if you weren't looking for it.

Thanks for the info.  I looked and still couldn't find it (no blue anything).  I'm going to chalk it up to having no people in my photos and try again later (I have no people shots in my port at all).

I had clicked on the Orange See Comments, but each image only states "Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time....." and does not tell me any information at all.  I checked each message to make sure, but all of them state that with no other additional info.
