Shutterstock reviewers are quite tough with your first 10 application pictures. But once you are in, they are significantly less picky. They just want to make sure that you are able to provide good material.
iStock reviewers are always very picky. Combined with the tedious uploading process and the ridiculous quota of 15 per week, uploading to iStock is not much fun. But accepted images do sell quite well.
Hi Oliver, My last SS application got me 6/10 approved. So hopefully next month I'll be in! As for IS, I was only approved a week or so ago and have already had 2 sales (with only 1 picture in my portfolio!) So I'm really excited about uploading more. It took me one failed uploading session to learn about how to keyword and also what to look for/edit when submitting to IS, so hopefully I'm more successful this week. I've had 3 more pictures approved, so hopefully I'm on the right track. I like their analysis system and the overall user-friendliness of their website. When I was doing design work, IS was always my #1 stock website to buy from. So it feels kind've neat to be active as a contributor now.

Do you guys find that you are using these de-noise tools on every image you submit (just to be safe)? Or only the ones that you feel are necessary?

I know this is old news to most people, but . . . . . . .
Thank you for that information! I'm always looking for new PS tutorials to try. I have been using Picture Cooler to handle the noise (the free version). I think it does a pretty good job and it really takes no time at all.

Thanks leaf! I think I'll play around with that.

what camera are you shooting with?
I'm shooting with a Canon Rebel XT - 8MP. I'm assuming that's not enough MP to downsize? Especially considering that the newer cameras are much higher.

Wouldn't hurt to try! Good luck!

Even if you get accepted, your submission photos may not be accepted for the collection.
That's what I figured. I already went ahead and re-uploaded them with my initial 15. So hopefully they get approved!

Thanks Lisa! Next up is Shutterstock. I'm a little nervous about that one!

Sure! I posted my application pictures on my blog - http://untilitclicks.blogspot.comThe last one I submitted was the Ganesha with prayer beads. Since those images are not on iStock yet (I had to re-submit them to include in my portfolio), I just used the thumbs from my CanStockPhoto portfolio.

APPROVED!!!!!
That was quick - it only took a few hours for them to review!
Thank you everybody for taking the time to respond to me. I ended up using a different picture, but your comments were helpful nonetheless.

I would recommend getting a fellow photographer post those image for you in their forum.
Thank you for your response. After I saw that I was unable to post in the forum, I went ahead and submitted a picture that has been approved on all of my other sites. :fingers crossed: If this image gets rejected (I only have 1 more to go), I will take your suggestion and find a member to post it for me. Great idea, thank you!

I highly recommend you seek the advice of folks in the iStockPhoto critique forum.
That's where I was originally going to post my critique, but when I logged in and went to the forum, it said this on the bottom of my screen: "Note: Your account is not yet eligible for forum participation, but feel free to browse our forums until your posting privileges are activated." I originally thought that I had to be an approved contributor before I was allowed to post, but from what you're saying, I guess not. I'll send an e-mail to their tech support.

Your lucky kitty is obviously well fed and has plenty to play with.
Yes - they are very spoiled! But very hard to photograph - they're always closing their eyes or looking away. I tried awhile ago to get a decent shot of them (for myself, not for stock) and eventually gave up. Not the best subjects!

It's actually one of my cat's bowls. But I understand what you're saying and I definitely see your point about making it more obvious. Thank you!

Thank you both for your response! I see what you're saying about the focus. The focus was supposed to be on the kibble, but I guess that's not really coming through. Thanks again!

Hello, I am hoping that you can help me by critiquing the below photo. This is for my initial iStock application. I already have 2 images approved, I just need one more and I'm set. http://a2.vox.com/6a0123dde094a5860d0123f176b3b2860f-piThank you!

I noticed with my past 2 uploads that things have been a little slower than usual. Before that I was getting approvals in under 24 hours.

I signed up with Commission Junction, but don't see anything about Stockxpert. I read on another website that the referral program hasn't been working for quite awhile now and I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something.
Thanks!

I'm also wondering about this. Perhaps I will start a new thread and maybe we can get a few answers.

Mac or PC?
I'm on a PC and I couldn't find anything on the add-on page about Mac. Perhaps someone else would know about the Mac capabilities?

You can try picNiche toolbar for Firefox. It has the upload feature to major stocks. It also helps tracking your earnings.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11474
I downloaded the add-on and I love it so far! I like how I can see my earnings real-time and the keyword function is nice as well. I'm yet to try the FTP out, but so far so good! Thanks for the referral!
