Did not read the whole 4 pages of this discussion, but I just want to say one thing:
100% of 0 (zero) is still a 0 (zero) !
So thanks for the great generosity.  ::)

You will get paid, don`t worry.
I never had any problems with paypal payouts. :)

Their conditions seem aggressive to me and I would never want to fall into such claws. I rather earn less but remain free. And how can you guys be sure that the earnings they are currently promising for exclusives will stay that way?

Can you tell me where did you read this ? Or who told you this ?
As far as I know istock did not promise anything to nobody, except maybe to some special guys with whom they have a special deal anyway. :)

If this link was already posted please remove, I did not go through all 25 pages to check. :)
Anyway interesting text to read.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: About exclusivity...
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:03 »
Vinne, please read Sean's posts again. This will help you more than clicking and repeating the first question. Believe me, the answer is there.

Compact version, for lazier people is here:
<quote>
"High Quality 3d renders" are easily duplicated by people around the world, who sell non-exclusive, so you will be competing against the same content at cheaper prices.
</quote>

This quote is true but it is missing one crucial word... the word quality;)
Yes, he might be competing against the whole world (as we all stockers do), yes they might copy his work (as some stockers around the world do)... but they can not copy the quality.
If you stand out from the crowd with quality, your content will be more popular, which will bring you more sales, no matter of the price (hint: Vizerskaya) (hint 2: go for exclusive, you will not regret it).
The people who copy other peoples work mostly don`t have that certain quality, if they have, they would not copy. ;)

I wished they'd been more specific about:
Additionally, we've also relaxed some of our technical requirements for photos which will help reduce the number of outright rejections for small issues that don't compromise the composition nor limit the usefulness of the file. Emphasis will be placed on the overall beauty and composition of file.
so that I could decide if it's worth Scouting any rejections.

Hmmm... that is strange, cause yesterday I got two rejected photos with a standard generic response, of the flat/dull, on camera flash (which was not used), incorrect wb text.

The collection is curated more than just inspected and is pricing at a premium
Curated in which way ?? As I've said, I see (and you can see) many classical microstock photos, that's doesn't explain how was done the selection of "members".
I wish a good luck to all "in" members.

"Curated" as in the editors select content they feel should be in the collection, and not just anything in focus.

Please Sean, tell them to be more careful,  it is ruining the whole idea of the site, and this is what you, and all the other photographers there know very well.
Also the contributors should be a bit more objective, and not even send those kind of images, because at the end you know that those kind of pictures are not going to sell anyway.

I am really sorry that my post was interpreted in such a bad way.
My only intention was to show that stocky is moving into the wrong direction if images like those are accepted in the collection.
I was really happy about that site from the first moment. The way they said it is going to be, how is it going to function and what type of images are going to be sold there. The site looks very nice, and there is a great amount of nice artistic images, new style and new type of imagery which were not seen so much on the other sites.
And then those kind of images are like a slap on the face when you see them, I`m sorry, but I really feel like that. :(
It is pity that when someone browses through that nice gallery with so much beautiful pictures, bumps into something like that. Those images should not be part of stocksy, it is not good advertisement for them, especially not now, when they just started. And believe me, I would really like them to succeed, because they are suppose to be the game changer site, for all of us, the small contributors.

Yeah, and it`s also confusing that the topic title is "sjlocke was booted from istock", and you people here are discussing the shutterstocks profit.  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, indeed topic title is stupid.   :D
Why should anyone be afraid of anything, especially of this situation. So what if istock gets busted, are any of you have shares ? Not me. So I don`t care really, if the point comes that my photos are not going to be sold there anymore, I will switch to any other active site. Business as usual. ;)

Good questions. :)

Who is going to pay for the marketing and sales people ? Contributors from their pocket, or are those contributors going to replace the marketing/sales department as well ?
If there is someone who is going to invest, I guess he will expect profit in return right ? So we are back on the same track as all the other companies.

And yes, being just a fair-trade agency is nice, but I doubt it is enough. Let`s wait and see...

Look where Deposit Photos is on the poll board. That is a new start-up with just the same images as everyone else, but it hasn't stopped it succeeding. New agencies don't HAVE to fail, it's just that many of them are looking for easy money by grabbing a slice of the cake without making much effort or investing sufficiently to get anywhere.

If anybody understands the market it has got to be Bruce Livingstone, so if he does launch I would expect him to have a business plan that is likely to succeed.

You are forgeting one little thing.
Depositphoto did pay to the contributors just to upload the content. So pretty decent money was invested in that site, just to start with. And I do remember myself uploading load of c*#p just to get the money. And if you look now at that site, those files are still there (not mine, I erased them all)... :)

Anyway, I am wondering what is the way that stocksy plans to do in order to atract people start uploading there ?
For example if you are an exclusive to istock, and your earning dropped lets say 50%, will you be ready to drop even that and "invest" into something you have no idea what it is, and when is going to bring in money, and give you at least those "50% less at the moment". Are any of you ready to go to 0 a month ?!
What is the time (in months or years) you expect that the new stock site will bring you money at the same/similar level as the current "dying dinosaur". If ever...
If you have vetta images on istock selling for 300$ (example) will you be ready to sell them for 100$ on that new site ?
And let`s not forget the most important thing... customers...
Is this new crew so strong that it will bring in so many customers in a very short period of time ?
I wonder...

pretty sure that it is SPAM, to get more traffic from google, nice job kobajagrande ;D

my bad, thanks Cory

Yeah right... what do I have from that traffic dude...   ;D

And yes, I got that info in the e-mail, one of those "we miss you, come back and upload more (vectors)" as ShadySue said.  ;)
This might not be the case with photo contributors, maybe only illustrators, not sure.  ???
