General Stock Discussion / Re: Image infringements claims
« on: July 31, 2014, 11:14 »
So what do you do if they continue to use the image and tell you to f-off?
Depends on the country you live in as to what methods are available to you. A quick check on Google will help "copyright infringement <country name>"

Actually the answer is NOTHING. Well, except send letters or calls or emails kinda stating why they should give you money and HOPE you will appeal to their sense of fairness. Or threaten an online reputation attack.

Suing is not a cost-effective option. Getty sends out thousands of (extortion) illegal copyright infringement letters a month and have only sued one or two times. That kinda sums it up.

Is the collection destroyed,  could they have somehow placed a rating on each image so they could at some point reverse what they did??

It would be massive to re-evalute every image and keyword in the collection.

that would require Getty to do something forward thinking and calculated based on a thought-out business model.

hahahahahahahah :o ;)

maybe you will get at least $6 for it

:o 8) ::)

it is like IS has no strategy or are just stupid

first they blow out most of their client base with overly aggressive pricing, confusing price options and poorly functioning site then they remove upload limits and QC so junk floods in the door. did they not read the research about buyers not wanting to wade through trash to find quality?

now SS is upping standards .... who didn't see that coming.

Gettys stupidity would be amusing if it did not affect our bank accounts   >:(

New Sites - General / Re: Something a little different

if you are marketing your site on forums you might want a better thread title than what you have.

you have the tech skills but not shooting the in demand content. that -- you will have to figure out on your own,

good shooting

they tested price points too far and started losing sales and customer base. the heat came down from the top to fix it and they had to do something to report back that they were working on it by doing things like adding more content, making back room deals, customer research, tweaking search, adding subscriptions, messing with layout and probably other things we don't know about.

some changes were for the better and some were not. time will tell if they can fix it. but much of the damage is done and lasting or intended to last or remain unchanged indefinitely.

please consider a 50% commission and contributor price setting like pond5 and a curated collection for quality control.

also do you have a preferred frame rate and how about twixtor slow motion?

what is your internet marketing strategy? google paid keywords? what keywords? others? PR marketing strategy?

why should any shooters sign on with you? it looks like a nice template interface and perhaps all works well but if you are selling this site to contributors ya gotta sweeten the pie or you are just a new website offering less than the main competition and... another pretty face in the sea of stock video sites.

not meaning to sound harsh... just keeping it real

You can watermark your images - though depending on the pic, it might not show up that well, or be easily removed. (You can bulk add the watermark via default settings 'behind the scenes.)
Of course, you've got to do what you think best.

Wait a minute - did you say you've uploaded 262 pics around six weeks ago and you're disappointed you've had no sales? I think you had inflated expectations. It's not SS.

FWIW, I persuaded a friend to join several months ago, and he's been mentioning the 'wasted $30' for a while, until this very week he got a big print sale netting him $170. (Ha, if someone had bought one of my images at that size, I'd have made $55, and I think that's a huge price by UK standards, not to mention matting, framing and shipping.)

Nope I am not expecting sales now... just mentioned in passing
my concern is the search issues... you may have talked me into letting then ride longer.

They'll no doubt say you should be doing your own promotion.

In any case, why not leave the images there, at least until your next $30 is due?

true. been reading the forums there about that. not really what i had in mind when submitting. don't like having large unwatermarked images available... and not even showing up in search. the more i read on the forums the more i dislike FAA. it may work well for mike savvad and a few others but just seems an ineffective way to sell work now that it is so loaded with junk images and no site promotion.

We can discuss all the shortcomings of FAA until we're blue, and it's just a waste of time.  All the problems with search have been brought up on the FAA forum many times and the response is always "it's not going to change".

McDunn apparently has no interest in updating the site, it's just a cash cow.  Obviously his attention is elsewhere (a week ago  there was a joyous announcement of the McDunns' new baby) and he's the only technical guy behind the site - it's a one man show.

It is what it is. It works, sort of - I make an occasional sale - but it's frustrating because it could be so much better. I don't mean to beat up on Sean McDunn, he's done an amazing thing with FAA.  It's just a shame we've all ended up depending on a company that doesn't have the motivation to move forward.  All we can do is hope for some meaningful competition to emerge.

Good to know. In mid-may I ULed 262 photos. No sales. I have a series of a woman playing tennis. So I searched "woman, tennis". None of my images in there. AND what did show up was mostly NOT woman playing tennis. Blown away. FAA is a joke.

I sent an email to support about it today. If not hear back with a great explanation, all images are coming down on friday... ::)

here is a link to their photography sample page

it makes me question the curator's artistic eye and marketing intuition. i am not impressed with what they are featuring as fine art -- that people would want to have framed and placed on their walls.

i was hoping to get a sense of what they were seeking... perhaps i have

my stats are still showing my exclusive commission income and not the 100% commission. both in IS stats and Stock Performer. are you folks seeing the 100% income on your sales yesterday?

Be prepared to wait a few weeks or so, as detailed in the forum.

thanks...  8)

i am also not getting the 100% commission showing up on Stock Performer. hopefully IS will fund the balance quickly. seems like they could make it happen globally as it happens...

what exactly do you mean by dual and washed out?

I get my payout by Payoneer at iStock. Today I tried to submit a payout request and the Payoneer option is not shown on my payment request page. Did IS terminate that arrangement. Did I miss the memo?
