iStockPhoto.com / Re: Getty's new $100m debt
« on: November 10, 2015, 15:38 »
If i was getty (pre debt) i would have tried to buy dreamstime and fotolia and created an exclusive program for the group leaving contributors to choose shutterstock or the getty group.  to me anything is better than having only shutterstock growing fast and noone else except niche players.  Thats how Getty use to roll.  now they have there hands tied.
Well see what happens with adobe/fotolia and if shutterstock can maintain growth.
I would not like to see getty or Corbis keep shrinking as they are the two most likely to produce big sales.  Thats just me wishing macro and midstock a healthy life but yes we all know getty has a less than perfect history with contributors and its dominant past position.

the getty image creative search brings up like 10 million images - its never been much more than that even though they have a lot of images, video, and editorial. the actual creative search is around 10 million for me and that is up and growing.

yup more sales and less debt.
I don't know but this looks to me like planning for a bankruptcy
550 million in unsecured debt gets bumped up to top tier secured debt in exchange for cash.  Thats how I read it anyway

they should have bought Fotolia and maybe dreamstime/corbis. they use to buy everyone
before the debt.

like Michael said - the debt isn't really anything to do with Getty. It's the hedge funds that
created it to pay themselves.  I think they have to go bankrupt if they ever want to really
get aggressive and hopefully grow in new ways.  It's just to much money to make the debt payments leaving them no room to do what they traditionally are good at. Buying other companies. They have great work imo and great clients. yes its a real rough business but their debt is holding them back imo.

Im surprised Stocksy hasnt made it yet.  It sure seems like there are a fair amount of stocksy contributors here.  Getty / flickr alone has well over a million images from a small army of contributors not to mention getty house.  Maybe have two sets of results. One that only includes the ones on now and one that includes every agency and vote.
Otherwise were probably stuck with just dreamstime, pond 5 and the small group of the biggest micros.    It would be really interesting to see any data from contributors at the tiny micro's, offset!, stocksy, getty, corbis. Maybe even throw in FAA or cafe press.  Im pretty happy Leaf has shared as much as we have already. Just thinking

is it because we still dont have 20 voters for stocksy and getty that they do not show up yet?

not a lot but i've made a little wwith the getty app

the growth of their archive is really wild.  Shutterstock can't keep up this pace of growth for long imo.  Not unless they branch out in a lot of new areas.  It's going to start getting tougher and I think that is reflected in the the stock price which is well below its all time high.

9
getty and corbis for sure
the aggregates that subit to them and others are great too

one way or another you need to be on getty imo for macro weather its direct or though an aggregrate

really well said!

Stocksy is very transparent about it's growth and numbers to members and it is doing better and better and some people there do very well.  Everyone won't do well or be a good fit.
It sure is nice to have them setting an example making contributors part owners and paying a great percentage.  Sure they have a niche and a style. It would be really nice to
see a few more places pop up that share in profits, give you ownership, and turn a profit.
They do pretty decent for me with just a small Portfolio.  I actually feel like I should be supporting them more than I do because of what they offer as an alternative to most other agenices. Respect

"it's about fighting for market every single day, no days off, no vacations."
.... that's the line I burning in my head. what is the point than?
I hope there are people doing ok that take vacations.

There are probably some pretty smart people with lower overheads taking time off and still making a living between macro, micro, and alamy.  I have to wonder what kind of profit is actually being made with that kind of overhead and workload. I hope a lot. I would need a few million to give up weekends for a year.

There should be a new poll - how many make 80% or more if there living from stock and still take weekends off.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: E+ on getty

So could it be 7 million exclusive photos on istock? (what they call exclusive)? ballpark? or is there just no way to tell at all.
From what I have read so far it does help for some exclusives and not so much for others having the E+ on Getty but only a few answers so far. I was wondering how much it helped with overall sales.
Thanks
