Seems to work better if you set your ftp client to only load one clip at a time. Haven't had this problem on other sites.

Yet another agency tightening the screws on contributors rather than offering fair marketing strategies!

I am also having trouble uploading 4k files. Being larger than normal HD (between 1-2gb) some don't seem to fully register with SS. From a small batch of 7 or 8, some will upload fine and generate thumbs. The others register as files with names however no thumbs and simply disappear when submitted. Pretty frustrating give the time taken to upload that size of file.

It's a difficult situation to be sure. However the option to delayed payments may mean that a good company goes under. I'd rather get my money later than not at all.

Read the "producer news" blog and you'll have answers to your questions.

No wonder people have been drifting away from this forum. Someone comes on with a well meaning topic of discussion and they mostly get unhelpful snide comments. Kind of sad.

I sell the occasional clip and it seems they are trying hard to get back on track.

With this scheme I hope istock soon experiences a lack of quality video submissions. My sense is that many video contributors are very aware of the price / royalty problems on the photo side and will not be as willing to put up with this kind of crap for videos.

So far video contributors do have an excellent option with Pond5 offering 50 percent royalty, set your own price and a great sales record. In my opinion if Pond5 has been able to do very well with that percentage of payout other agencies don't really have a good excuse to offer less!

Here's hoping you know what to do about it.

Might be worth a look at Edelkrone. They have a modular system that you can build into. I'm very tempted however haven't purchased or used one yet so can't speak from experience but their system does look good to me.

Sadly, ever higher volume is simply an illusion.

Pond5 / Re: Do you think Pond5 is going to be a leader?

- if they feel it need a bit of discount to encourage the client to choose their image over another of the similar.

That's precisely the problem across the board. Agencies and contributors willingly to continually go lower and lower. Now we've pretty much reached the unsustainable level in this market. We as contributors are in the very lowest level of the food chain! In my opinion, volume selling is simply not going to work much longer for us as the producers of the work.

My new material goes to fair trade sites first. Not that I think it makes a difference but I still feel better about it!

My experience shows Pond5 is a leader! Of course I'm referring to video sales. For me they consistently earn the highest monthly payout through solid sales and a fair royalty percentage.
The ability to set your own price is a big plus!

They were very late getting into still images so I think it's going to be a long uphill battle for them to make significant inroads in that market. However if you like to be treated fairly, I would certainly recommend continuing to support them by uploading your new material.

Great to see an agency begin a new initiative with respectable royalty rates! In their terms and conditions for contributors is MotionElements committed to maintaining these rates?

Pro: Gain ability to earn pennies today.
Con: Lose ability to earn dollars tomorrow!

Hey Josh,
Please tell us why Envato is deliberately undercutting and trying to destroy the video market for contributors with your extremely low ball pricing? Why on earth would I settle for only a buck or two per sale from Envato when I'm doing quite well at P5, SS, IS, RS, CS, etc. and receive on average 15 to 20 times more per sale than what you offer? Please do enlighten us!

I've said before that change in this business will come from startups and small companies who offer more or do something better than the competition, forcing the existing companies to react. This is exactly that type of situation.

Hope this proves to be true... Only way it can happen though is if more people would make contributing to fair trade sites or new agencies with better (for the contributor) market strategies a priority.

please consider a 50% commission and contributor price setting like pond5 and a curated collection for quality control.

also do you have a preferred frame rate and how about twixtor slow motion?

and...
what is your internet marketing strategy? google paid keywords? what keywords? others? PR marketing strategy?

why should any shooters sign on with you? it looks like a nice template interface and perhaps all works well but if you are selling this site to contributors ya gotta sweeten the pie or you are just a new website offering less than the main competition and... another pretty face in the sea of stock video sites.

not meaning to sound harsh... just keeping it real

Well put!

I'm not seeing much rhyme or reason regarding SS rejections these days. Reviewer comments often make no sense when comparing what is accepted and rejected from the same shoot. As others have said, I'm afraid it's becoming a bit of a crap shoot with them. Re-thinking my agency upload priorities.

The Microstock Collective is a very constructive idea and should prove to be most valuable to the contributor side of the industry going forward. Thanks guys!

Frankly, it isn't the uploading problem that is the biggest issue, aside from that the biggest problem is the completely incompetent image reviewer problems. That problem is getting worse. I'd thought I try them out with just a few images having boycotted the entire process for eight weeks. All non-approved for an absolutely ludicrous reason and I mean ludicrous.

"Model release is required"

.......... for food images with nobody in them - just macros of food. No hand, no finger, no plate no utensils, just salad leaves and feta cheese  ;D

Unbelievable.

Just completely and totally incompetent.

I'm experiencing silly review issues as well with an entire batch being rejected. Good reason to send new material to better paying agencies first, at least until SS gets it sorted. I can't stand having my time and efforts wasted in this way!

Shutterstock -  the CEO will soon be facing angry stockholders (mostly mutual fund managers) who will demand more value and scream bloody murder if you try and increase royalties.

Agree with everything you said, especially the above. The minute there are stockholders, raises become endangered. We can always hope I guess

Shutterstock obviously doesn't have a problem attracting new content so I don't think a raise will be on the horizon any time soon. Especially given the fact that they have to keep impatient investors happy.

The cynicism on this forum can be really off putting! Why slam something that could be a much better deal for you as a contributor before it even has a chance to get going? Don't you want a better choice than the current robber barons have to offer?

...If you want to encourage folks to upload to and support other sites, why not start a thread about it?

I have, and those threads generally don't go anywhere because as a community, we are pretty terrible at getting behind anything in a positive way. We're really good at pointing out everything that's wrong with an agency, which is exactly what happens when anyone tries to get people to rally behind 1 or 2 good companies. Everyone has some problem with any company suggested. Or people get all pissy because they got rejected by that company. Or in the case of the company I'd recommend (see previous post) people can't let go of the past and will shun a good company out of spite.

I'd love to start another thread about this. But I'm not sure that we're at a place yet where enough people can put their egos aside and have a real discussion about what's good for us collectively. Those threads always devolve into more complaining and bickering.

What is really incredible is that they continue to sell and collect money without paying anyone.  Blatantly out in the open, stealing from artists and nothing can be done about it, it seams.

Yes it's been a terrible fall from grace...

It is very strange that they don't communicate properly. I received a substantial payout back in February after a long wait and my balance has again accumulated quite nicely. I still have some level of faith that they will eventually settle accounts honorably. Just have to hope that my trust is not misplaced...
