Opted Out.

Also have one question: Does everybody raise their EL price to the maximum? I have a possiblitiy now to raise price of all photos to 100 credits. For some of the photos I did that (luckily also for the one I sold EL today), but most are still set to 30 credits.

I always set EL prices to the maximum possible. They are quite rare at FT anyways, so at least you'll get something when you sell one. I experimented with lower prices a while ago, made no difference in EL sale numbers.

I used Wordpress + Photocrati theme for my new page. It's quite easy to do, no coding required.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia exlusive images
« on: February 21, 2015, 15:17 »
I just uploaded an image to confirm. I found that the default answer to the questions "Is this file exclusive to Fotolia?" and "If your file is declined by our editors, can we place it in the Fotolia free section?" was NO.

If you are finding a different result in your account, will you please send me an email or PM with your login name or account number name so I can check it out?

Thank you,

Mat

Well, I can confirm that those sometimes get mixed up, usually in Safari. Extended price resetting itself to 20 when pressing the Ok button, Exclusive and Free set to Yes, not remembering last categories ....

I'd recommend using Firefox for Fotolia, as I only had those with Safari as far as I remember.

I don't think it's much different than stock.

PW, go there right now and search on 'kitchen'.  The 1st and 3rd images are paintings of trees, they don't have 'kitchen' in their keywords, titles or descriptions.  They're just works from a top seller.  No microstock would do this.

They do have kitchen in the tags. Click on 'Show All'.

I made some tests with the search, I don't think its whacky, results are good so far, I was able to find everything I was looking for (and sometimes - or all of the time :) more, but that's more to do with the keywords used).

I sell there, and this year was quite good with 24 sales so far.

I do not promote except the occasional twitter and Facebook stuff directly from the site (but not for every new image). And I have a link to my portfolio there on my Homepage.

One of my Images made it into the Collection, a long time ago ... maybe this helps with exposure.

As somebody said somewhere in this (or another FFA thread), don't set your prices too low - it will not help sales, maybe even hinder it.

Not counting Greetings Cards, my average is about 50-60$ per sale.

Just found this app, Air Stylus:

but I didn't try it, seems to be working with Photoshop and other Software.

I'm not on Fotolia, but was wondering because I was thinking about joining. Don't they make all images that haven't sold in 6 months level 1? So those images would be offered for the 20 credit (several dollars for you) as an extended license and there is no opt out? Also, the extended license at Fotolia allows POD.

The EL Price is not affected by this. It will stay at whatever you set it, even if the regular credits sales price goes down. Mine are all still at 100 for the EL.

My mac tells me this file comes from an unlicensed developer and wont open it :(

Right click the program, choose 'Open', confirm the question -> won't bother you again until next update.

interesting agency as well, how much is DP paying us from those big credit sales?

just noticed DT is there as well, even more expensive, XS for 588 credits

LOL - those are Indian rupees, it's not as expensive as you might think :D

A DT test sale got correctly reported as a credit sale, in the end I got 20% of the sale price at ibudget.

I wrote 2 Emails, got no replay at all.

I just disabled the first 2000 images, 3200 left to go :D Once my click flinger has recovered, I'll disable the rest.

Did you check for your port on ibugdgetphotos.com ? My pictures are gone from Shotshop, but they are still up over there ...

13
There is another site that's a 'Reseller' of DP:

http://www.ibudgetphoto.com

They sell by credits, but I haven't been able to make a test purchase yet (registration not working).

They have DP and also DT images:

DP images can be found by DPPS_(imagenumber)

Example: DPPS_15846517

DT images show as DRMT_(imagenumber)

Example: DRMT_22356161

And they show no Info on who the Image Author is !

At least I couldn't find that info anywhere on the picture ...

I disabled DTs PP yesterday, it looks like they are already going offline over there now.

I am not saying you have to take the deal or be happy about it. But it was my choice to send files to an agency that sells files for 6 dollars. I also have the option not to do that.

If deposit photos was getting a bigger share than the contract says I would be genuinely upset, but if it is correct that they are paying out the same percentage as on their own site, they are not getting an additional benefit.

The one to blame is shotshop, that advertises that it pays artists between 35-75% but then makes deals with other agencies where they can get files a lot cheaper and dont have to pay out what they claim they do on their website.

I find shotshops actions extremely misleading, because even their customers will assume that they are paying out what it says on their website. Since they are a German agency, I wonder if this would even be legal over here, but I am not a lawyer.

Actually this is a good reason not to work with shotshop, because for me this is false advertising. I also wouldt be surprised if they then also rig their best match to prefer files from deposit because they pay out so much less than to their own artists. They even have exclusive artists that get 75%, i wonder how they feel about this deal.

Right now, all this about who is to blame is speculation, because DP has not yet responded AFAIK. The only thing we know for sure is that it's us that's been screwed in this deal. And if DP agrees to a deal like this, I will be pulling my port sooner than they can find some arguments why this is such a brilliant business idea that will make us all so much money ...

Looking at my own files, I can see this price structure:

Shotshop Direct

XSmall       300 x 200    0,99
Small        600 x 400    4,99
Medium      1200 x 800    9,95
Large       1875 x 1250  15,95
XLarge      2700 x 1800  22,90
XXLarge     3750 x 2500  30,90
Maximum     5760 x 3840  39,90
EL          5760 x 3840  79,00

Shotshop Depositphoto

XSmall       300 x 200    1,99
Small        600 x 400    4,99
Medium      1200 x 800    9,95
Large       1875 x 1250  14,95
XLarge      2700 x 1800  19,90
XXLarge     3750 x 2500  24,90
Maximum     5760 x 3840  29,90
EL          5760 x 3840  99,00

16
We tested this too.

For a 19,90 single purchase at Shotshop you will get a 0.30$ Sub sale on Depositphotos !!!

I wonder what you'll get for an EL ... if this isn't a bug, it's a complete rip-off.

« on: February 03, 2014, 15:52 »
I wonder if I should keep at $50?  Also, if I do decide to raise to $100 is there a way to apply to all my images?

I set all my ELs to 100. Send an EMail to support, they will apply this to your whole portfolio. I did not notice any drop in EL sales after the higher price point, and 50 is way to low for an EL (I had ELs disabled on white and bronze).

Computer Hardware / Re: Switchng from Windows to Mac
« on: January 11, 2014, 03:14 »
The grass is definitely greener but not that much greener :D. Still, you won't regret switching. The only thing to watch out for is upgrading. You'll be spending a lot of $$ getting newer machine since you cannot upgrade most components in a mac.

My mid 2011 27" 2.7GHz i5 is still going strong.

Unlike with old PCs, you still get good money for used Apples. I upgrade every 3 years, and get about 50% of the original price when I sell 'old' iMac/MacBook Pros.

I set them to 50, and once I got to silver I had support change all images to 100. Don't sell too cheap.

As I said, the current imac monitors are MUCH less shiny.

If you eliminate light sources in your back, you have no problems.

If used right, and calibrated, they will produce very good color. So yes, they can be used for professional work. Maybe just not by you ;)

Good
I have not had the occasion to use seriously the new iMacs, so in fact I cannot say nothing about it.
I was telling about previous series, as you have understood.
The fact is that when you begin to work on a monitor of the level of the Eizo (or Barco RIP) it is difficult to turn back.

I know what you mean ;) I just exchanged my old iMac with the 'mirror screen' this year - I have an NEC SpectraView too, and the new iMac Monitor is really close to it it terms of color rendition. I do my own prints on a iPF6100 with my own color profiles, and get great results.

The Apple monitors are through the worst that I have used.
If you want a good monitor use an Eizo, some good Dell Ultrasharp, or equivalent

I agree. I had 2 iMacs and hated both of those screens. When I upgraded my system a couple of years ago I went with w Mac Pro so I could pick my own display.

Mike, the new iMac displays are much better. The old ones were really just mirrors with additional display function :D The new ones are a big improvement - still not ideal, and I prefer external matte monitors too.

If you get yourself an iMac, I recommend to use this software:

http://www.basiccolor.de/basiccolor-display-5-en/

It works with almost all Sensors (Spyder, i1) and will give you full auto calibration of color temperature, brightness and gamma on an iMac, and it works with all Professional (Hardware calibration) Monitors too.

I switched to Mac 4 years ago and I wish I could have done it before. I bought several iMac 27" with the best possible features and Ram for my studio and couldn't be happier. I lost several PCs due to viruses in the past. There are many advantages that will become obvious the more you use Apple products. Other than the fact they work fast and better, the greatest advantage is that you don't ever need to calibrate the monitors. When I used PCs, I used to calibrate all my monitors once a week and the colors never worked to my satisfaction. Using Macs, you never have to worry about that.

The Apple monitors are through the worst that I have used.

never had any of those but I keep on hearing that Apple (iMac) kicks ass in terms of colors, contrast, calibration, this and that, weird that you consider them the worst you have tried :o

Maybe he tried them some time ago ? The current (2013 model) 27" iMac Monitors are pretty good (not the Thunderbolt Display!), they greatly reduced the reflections, and with a little color calibration they have very good color rendition. I would always recommend them, the next better thing will be a SpectraView, Eizo CG Series or similar.

I just tried this, it works ;) Manual Lens, Camera to 'Tv' ( not 'S' ;) ), ISO to Auto -> ISO will be adjusted according to available light, Shutter speed and Aperture stay fixed.
