And cascoly you keep lying about how i dropped out of networking early on. I never did. But you will to continue to perpetuate that one to make it seem like i dont get it.

Most people in the network have 10 links, plus a few more from keywords. You, cascoly, add every single person to your search page. Same with ajt. That means you have at least 10 people in your network PLUS links to every single person who builds a site. Thats up to what, 250, 300 people now? Is that not a correct statement? Therefore you have more benefits than most do in the networking department. Correct? Therefore you and some others will do way better than most others. Thats how the whole internet scheme works. I could build a site like you did and do the same thing you are doing, of course. Is the average photographer going to do that? No. Therefore a few in the network are benefitting much more than others because of the increased search traffic and links. It is to a few of your's benefit to downplay that fact and keep recruiting people so you can keep building traffic to your site. Meanwhile, those of us who believed that being part of the network with 10 or so links would have equal benefits, and that just isnt so. Thats what people building sites need to understand. The way to drive traffic to your site is with massive amounts of links. Having one or two thousand images and networking with ten or so people is probably not going to be enough.

You guys sound a lot like lobo at istock. Only good things can be said about SY, otherwise the person saying the not so good things is a lying, slanderous, unprofessional.  ::)

I have every right to express my opinion and say what i want and what i think to be true about this subject or any other. Everyone has a right to build a site and test it themselves. Everyone has a right to present an opposing view, whether others like it or not. You guys dont get to bully me into not saying what i think.

I have said it, and i will continue to post if and when i feel like i have something to say. Until Leaf bans me. This forum has always been the place to come to freely express views, whether negative or positive. And yet here are some of you trying to change that, now that you have a stake in something. When we were all griping about istock, this was a good place to speak, because we couldnt have our opinions censored. Now you want to censor and discredit anyone who expresses what they believe to be true. It can be done on the SY forum, thats why it was created. Posts are being deleted left and right. Thats cool. Leos game, leos rules.
From whatever I understand cascoly doesn't gain from linking all the websites.  All of us benefit who are linked from his website. An incoming link is much more important and valuable than outgoing link. Basically outgoin link has so little value you can ignore it.

YOU DONT UNDERSTAND SEO

Just to add Any new initiative would face hurdles and a lot of negativity. Inspite of that Leo worked hard and provided us a platform that we can use to share / sell our work.
He never forced us into this project. He only encouraged us. It  is working for some and didn't work for others. Guys give Leo the credit that he deserves. I really hope he made some money by referrals and selling premium plugin. I really hope so.
Leo, don't leave the project. This can evolve into something else , selling sth else.

Guys take a chill pill. If you don't like leave it. Try other self hosting solutions. See if that works for you. If it works let me know as well. :)
This is a tough industry and we know that for sure. Moreover you are competing against all these agencies that have millions of dollar of budget. I wish there was a plugin to get more sales. For the record I have had no sales.
Btw what's wrong in just uploading to the website every time you upload to other agencies. You get 100% acceptance plus backup of your pictures and hopefully few sales.

I'd worry about the food first.  None of it looks appetizing.

Again, that is an arrogant and demeaning answer. You both demean the guys cooking skills and his photography skills. That compares to critisizing  someones model (eg a child) , and thats something you dont do.
There are so many strange dishes out there in the world, and even the strangest might appeal to someone, and in this case the blue plate may sell the picture.

I do not see any isolation problems other than it is difficult to isolate blurred transitions, but I cannot see that they are not well done.

There are other problems, however.
underexposure in some of them, dull colours and focus. = more light on the food and a higher number aperture.
it is important to have the main (often front) part in focus and to not have to try to isolate out of focus parts, like the fork.

I do this kind of photos with 2 softboxes and a sharp light to create shadows.

@JPSDK and Goofy: Thanks a lot for the inputs..

Regarding comments from Sean, I don't really care about his arrogance. I really respect him for what he has achieved. I am here to learn and improve.  Any inputs from him would be appreciated but I expect it to be in a more humble way.

Newbie Discussion / Re: My attempt at isolation - Please critique
« on: December 31, 2013, 00:09 »

My aim here was to sell it to someone who wants to show how not to cook and present pasta ...

I'm not sure if you're joking - in case you're not; I have a large number of cookbooks and have read many food blogs and recipe sites. I don't recall even one time where someone showed you what not to do.

The first three are underexposed and gray pasta never looks good :) There's a difference between natural looking food and work that isn't well lit or exposed

Take a look at Kelly Cline's awesome food shots - I love her food styling and I almost always feel hungry when looking at her photographs.

Thanks for the link. The photos are really good and my photos dont stand a chance in front of these. Let me give it a try again next year

My aim here was to sell it to someone who wants to show how not to cook and present pasta and then probably buy from someone pro (maybe I can put link to your gallery) and show how to present /cook pasta. 😃

Am I successful in showing clearly how un-appetizing pasta is?

Happy new year 😃

Hi All,

I am new to isolation on white technique. Please critique and what can be improved.

How can I improve the composition as well for Food Photography. I am unable to travel that often to take travel pics so in order to keep contributing to stock I am thinking of food photography.

Hello all!

Just stumbled across a Groupon offer (expired) that sold products featuring my artwork. These files have never sold with an EL license nor do I knowingly sell these designs anywhere that allows this usage.

http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-12x12-framed-state-pride-images-on-wood

What would you do?

Thanks!

These are good sold by Groupon so you will have to take screenshots, download the web page into pdf and then contact groupon.

Do you have these images at FAA or any other website that sells art? Maybe groupon would take order from customers and once they know the number of orders they would buy from these websites and post it.

Take a look at this thread in the Symbiostock forums which will fill you in on that.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Maldives stock photos

Take videos if you can, much less supplied and will sell. A must : aerial view from a seaplane, choose a clear day, though. Zoom in or out from a single island, dolphin watching (you will see lots of them). If you can take good photo in really low light of stars, the night sky is amazing. I am no photographer, but got some amateur shots sold (of single island) , didn't think of taking videos then, was a big regret.  In any case, enjoy, it's a great way to spend Christmas, i am jealous :)
Can we use D90 for video stock ?

I will be traveling to Maldives next month. What kind of photos should I aim from stock point of view? What according to your experience sells?

« on: November 27, 2013, 05:48 »
Wanted to check if stocksy allows editorial content. I see few pictures of monks, people etc. I really doubt if they woul have signed Model Release. If yes then how do you approach unknown person for MR?

Ok, I'll open up myself once more for abuse.

This image was rejected for composition. I disagree with that decision

Can easily sell as a greeting card. May be resubmit or ask for feedback.
Personally I like the composition

Nov 07, 2013 02:24PM RegularXXL Tiff $2.50

Nov 07, 2013 02:08PM RegularXXL Tiff $2.50
Nov 07, 2013 02:08PM RegularEL         $25.00
Nov 07, 2013 04:05AM InstantSmall $1.00
Nov 04, 2013 05:14PM RegularLarge $1.00
Nov 02, 2013 07:49AM RegularLarge $1.00

Last month was rocking, this month is already BME. Unheard of.

that looks like 4 different buyers so you just got lucky, anyway they must have liked ;)
I dont think it was luck, it was one buyer looking for 2 specific images, and I had what he wanted. The EL and the XXL Tiff is for the same image, and he bought two similar images, with an EL.

Nothing against you :) but whenever you start such a thread my sales dry up.  :)

I had similar experience at 123 as well.

Back to the topic - I had few sales and one for $4. Surprising part was that the $4 sale was for a picture that was accepted only by this site. I didn't even bother to upload this image to my Symbio site

I believe Mr. Oringer know what is doing... he still control 45% of the shares, but the other 55% are so diluted among many investors that is nearly impossible to group all the other share holders to make 51%. Orenger need only 5% +1 to maintain the control, witch is very easy.
True. He still controls it.  His share is les than 50% but he is still the biggest shareholder.

Moreover sales like this from insider are always disclosed. It should have been somewhere. It doesn't specify the date but instead specifies time period in which they can sell.  Also it specifies the range of stocks that the insider can sell. Someone would need to find the information maybe their quarterly filing. Probably he sold shares in the lower range and wall street treats it as positive for the company.

Not sure what has happened. Not getting any sale  at this site anymore. Use to get regular sales till Aug but after that it is totally dry. I have added around 50 pics during that time but still zilch.

I think I remember you mentioned that before. I'm going to give it a try and see if I can do that kind of design in Photoshop.

Thanks for the tip!

Martha, I think I sent you a template you can use to get a watermark to show up - just change the wording to your own pattern/choice but leave the "fx" bits intact

Can you please send it to me as well?

Here is a link http://kerioak.com/TP/sy-watermark.psd

There are assorted layers - the black/white/coloured are so you can see the effect on different backgrounds
The SS is because I wanted to keep the Symbiostock logo but , like the coloured backgrounds can easily be hidden or deleted
The important bit is probably the special effects on the text which you can edit to suit yourself

Thanks :)

If I change the watermark would it impact my images that have already been indexed?
I want to have both white and black letters in my watermark

General Stock Discussion / Re: Night photography ideas
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:19 »
You want to shoot indoors at night? Or you want to shoot outdoors at night? If you want to shoot outdoors at night, go to places with moving objects and pretty lights. Such as highways, buildings, harbours, city scapes, star trails, or go shoot long exposure shots at sunset and sundown of streams, waterfalls, seascapes, etc.
I tried this but got rejected with reason - No commercial value
