iStockPhoto.com / Re: Amounts disappeared from Stats Page
« on: January 05, 2017, 13:04 »
This is very frustrating. It was already nearly impossible to track where the sales were coming from and now we can't see anything.

8 of mine removed: all historic homes owned by city parks. Clearly stated that they were public property and not needing a property release. Istock is such a pain in the ass to deal with.

iStockPhoto.com / Is anyone getting PP sales for last month yet?

Or is that going to be delayed until they resolve their past accounting issues?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Working with models - please help
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:14 »
I am part of a studio cooperative in the US, where I pay $200/month. I always do trades with models, so I don't have any costs there. If I shoot for 2 hours, I plan to get 50-100 shots up to stock sites. Of course, it takes a bit of time to do the keywording and editing. As others have said, it's hard to predict which photos are going to sell. Some of it based on the skill of the photographer, some on the model, and some of it is just plain luck.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Whole batch random rejection, twice.
« on: January 11, 2014, 17:36 »
It's funny: I average 90% approval on Shutterstock and I just had a batch of 10 rejected. I've been submitting to Shutterstock for 8 years off and on and I'm pretty sure I've never had a whole batch rejected. I think there must be a rogue editor out there.

Shutterstock.com / Re: [Shutterstock] Is ftp working?

I upload last night and still the images aren't showing . . .

I know I must be an anomaly, but frequently my income from istock is higher than it is from Shutterstock, even though I have more photos on Shutterstock (2000+) than on istock (1600+). For the year, the sales for the two are virtually equal . . . . Also, my sales on Fotolia are pitiful, despite the fact I have more than 2000 photos there, too. I just don't understand it: my sales used to be quite good at Fotolia, and now almost every month I make more money on Dreamstime, 123rf, and even Canstock.

Adobe Stock / Re: Is Fotolia dying? Or what happens?
« on: October 22, 2013, 19:47 »
I have a decent-sized portfolio of 2000-3000 photos on Shutterstock, istock, Dreamstime, Fotolia, Canstock, 123rf, Bigstock, and Depositphotos. For many years (since 2005), every month Fotolia was usually my third or fourth best selling agency. However, this year, they are my sixth best selling site and statistically not that far from the bottom. Also, after not adding photo to any sites for several years, I've added about 700 this year . . . . for some reason, my photos just aren't selling on Fotolia. Typically, Shutterstock, istock, and Dreamstime make up 70-80% of my sales.

General Stock Discussion / Re: September Sale looking very low
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:59 »
I've had a horrible first half of the month and I have a portfolio of about 2000 photos on all the major sites: it will be the worst month in few years with istock and dreamstime coming in especially low. It's weird since my sales this year have been fairly consistent each month. I'm sure things will tick up for the rest of the month.

Several years ago I was a reviewer for a major site. Reviewers are paid per image reviewed, not per image rejected or accepted. I did it as a learning experience, because the pay is below minimum wage in the US. I would guess many of the reviewers are based in countries where $5/hr would be considered a decent wage.

My question was in terms of selling. Are buyers going to see the photos in lightboxes? If you looked at a photo in the past, you could see all the public lightboxes it was in. It makes sense a buyer then might look at all the lightboxes a particular photo was in. I'm just not seeing any good reason for me to put my photos in public lightboxes any more: I have several fairly good size ones I've started but they don't seem to get the views they used to for the reason I mentioned above.

12
Thanks, Sue. Didn't istock used to list the lightboxes a photo was in when you pulled up the photo?

I took about a 5-year break from contributing to microstock. Is there any value in putting our photos into lightboxes? I did it before and seemed to increase the number of views, but I'm not sure the system is working like it used to.

123RF / Re: 123rf.com - unable to upload

I've been getting the same error for almost two weeks . . . .

123RF / Re: Uploading not working???
« on: June 29, 2013, 18:18 »
While 123rf has been very easy to work with over the years, the problem is getting to be pretty annoying and I can't understand why it would be so difficult to fix.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: PP Sales Anxiety
« on: June 29, 2013, 18:14 »
Between Istock not paying and 123rf inability to get their uploading to work properly, it has been a pretty crappy month in microstock . . . .

17
I just checked again and now it's not working for me again . . . weird.

18
And now the problem has disappeared . . . . .

19
I'm getting a strange message:

Status:   Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response:   421 Too many connections (8) from this IP

I even restarted my computer and I'm having no problems with other sites.

Thanks,

Bob

Strangely enough, my StockXpert (deceased) income has been more than double my income on Bigstock and Depositphotos the last two months . . . .

DepositPhotos / Re: Newbie at a disadvantage....

My royalties from the "deceased" StockXpert are about 4 times what I am earning at Depositphoto.....

DepositPhotos / Re: Newbie at a disadvantage....
« on: February 19, 2013, 14:46 »
Well, I now have 2000 photos up at DP and it is my worst performing site: it is behind SS, IS, FT, DT, CS, BS, 123RF, and Alamy. At this point, I'm a little disappointed . . . .

23
IS 39%
SS 22%
DT 16%
123 5%
CS 5%
FT 5%
BS 4%
DP 2%
SX 2%

I haven't been uploading microstock for about 5 years, so it's interesting the istock sales have done consistently pretty well.
