New Sites - General / Re: GL stock images
« on: August 14, 2011, 02:07 »
From reading the news thingy on the site we will still control how our stuff is priced.  I have all of mine set to $6 and a few at $10.  Looks like it could possibly be only $6, $10, $15 and we can control the licensing on each image as well.  Wonder if the URL is gonna change too and how that will affect referrals.

I had another thing I wanted to say but lost my train of thought.

There will be three price categories: $6, $10 and $15.
You can still set pricing and licensing options for individual images.
The domain (graphicleftovers.com) will remain the same but will also have glstockimages.com pointing to it as well.

New image size pricing:
$6 large jpeg or vector, $3 medium, $1 small
$10 large jpeg or vector, $5 medium, $2 small
$15 large jpeg or vector, $7 medium, $3 small

I think GL is one of the best looking sites out there.

Thank you. But just wait, more things are coming. That's all I'm saying. My lips are now sealed  ;)

Hi Stock Folks,

Based on my very limited experience I've noticed that CRESTOCK and Graphicleftovers are very difficult to get accepted pics- The most poplar rejection reply is the following:

Image possibly infringes on copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property or privacy rights and cannot be sold as Royalty Free. Do not resubmit. Remote design

The items of the so-called trademark issues are not unique and there is no trade mark whatsoever- all the other sites have accepted them. Let's see if I submit a photo of a cup cake this company would say it a 'Hostess" cup thus a trade mark issues.  Is this just me? The funny things (Actually not too funny) is that these companies are Low Earners - are they trying to prove a point? Maybe a small and up and coming company has to select only the best of the best to have a chance against the middle to upper tier companies- Quality over Quantity...

Tom

The key fobs you sent in are proprietary intellectual property of the manufacturers. There are even car keys I won't take. Same with camera flashes, Gary Fong light domes. I also cannot take military insignia that could put any USA military branch in a position of promotion or endorsement. You might want to see our Restictions list for more info, which by the way, is in horrible need of an update

http://graphicleftovers.com/restrictions/

So when you say "no trademark whatsoever" you might want to rethink that.

And the Hostess chocolate cakes with the white icing scroll, you are right, I won't take them. These days, it's much more than removing a logo.

We're not trying to prove a point - we are doing what is right to protect buyers.

Thanks for the links - those are helpful! Just a clarification - when I said "public buildings", I really meant ones owned by the "people" such as Federal buildings in the US. I didn't mean privately owned buildings taken from a public place, which have different rules as your links show.

Steve

If there are any federal or muni seals in the image, I can't take them.  This may apply to agency names as well, like FBI etc. Ones where I will make an exception are the Supreme Court or Lib of Congress. Architects rights may apply for the very new stuff. And I can't take the Smithsonian buildings even though they are part of the Nat Parks System, or any Smithsonian interiors.

I put all of your Capitol stuff through no problem. They are either in Pending or already approved. Nice shots.

I'm still losing most of my uploads with them.  They just disappear - never show up in the "unfinished" or "upload queue" even days later.  Pretty annoying.  I have the images, but it's taking days to get even a couple of them online...
I've been having the same issue the last couple of days

As just stated in the other thread:

If you are still having issues please email us directly with as many details as possible - we don't always check this board. If there are still issues sometimes the only way we find out is via user experience. While we have done a load of testing on the new FTP, as you know it is sometimes impossible to cover every scenario a user might present.

So please give details - date of upload, approximate time of upload, number of images, whether by FTP or site uploader etc.

Just FYI for everyone - images will get to the Queues faster using the site uploader at this time. We have not yet automated the FTP transfers. So FTP stuff may sit for several hours, while stuff will transfer via the site uploader in sometimes about 10 minutes.

Yeah, I've said it before, but I'm still having the problem - they never get to the "unfinished" section, for me to be able to get them into pending.

Some do, but most don't.  I've even checked days later - nothing...

Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi Steve

I told you stuff like this would be coming down the pike.  They may be trying to collect a commercial permit fee. I think we took all of yours down last year but will double check. If no income has been derived, they cannot collect "royalties" because royalties are in effect proceeds.

For entertainment for the rest of you, see the link about Stonehenge

http://www.thinq.co.uk/2010/10/21/english-heritage-seeks-copyright-stonehenge/

Edit: Steve just found 3 more that were of the general office buildings at la Dfense, not the arche itself and removed them.

I've only got a handful of images, and no sales, but they are getting viewed.

My problem is that I keep losing files in upload.  I upload them, and they never show up in the "unfinished" section - I know how the system works, but they're not even there the next day, never mind in a couple of hours.  This has been happening for a couple of days now.

On the other hand, the support team seems to be very good there.

Please write us at the site and give your user name when you write. We still have some growing pains with the FTP right now. It is much better for a small submitter to use the site uploader. Please give details of your experience, such as FTP client used, number if images, time uploaded etc.

If you have IPTC in your images, they should go right to queue for initial screening. There is no need for then to go to and Unfinished area unless there is no IPTC present, We don't require placing images into "categories". It's almost silly and you would not believe the number of images that 1) would get it wrong and 2) have images that just don't fit into any preconceived category.

I have the same problem... FTP and Web uploading are not work !! I upload more than 500+ images and I don't want to try again....

For upload problems please email the site with your username an as many details as possible regarding the problem. Stating it here will confirm possible trouble amongst users, but we don't always get a change to check in here.

We are aware of some strange goings on with the FTP and fixes are in progress. The site uploader should function normally. If you have lost images via the site uploader, again, please write us with accurate info.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Financial Shots (Trade Mark) Issues
« on: March 18, 2011, 15:34 »
US dollars, pounds, yen, etc, has to be permitted to publish, as do stock-exchanges, stock-broking dealingrooms, etc. In short, all financial shots needs to be cleared.

While I agree with dealing rooms, exchanges, etc, if publishing currency and coin was not permitted, half of the micro images on the planet would be gone.

Normally there is no problem with ad use unless defaced or altered in a derogatory manner, even in Britain. It must be a "good faith represenation".

Unless they changed again, Fotolia and Dreamstime stopped taking stamps Jan. 2009. "too many like this, they don't sell well." Shutterstock and IS they are editorial (newsworthy caption required) US stamp designs since 1978 are copyrighted, none should be accepted. Canceled only and famous dead people are likely to get rejected because of possible liability from the estate claiming rights, even though the stamp is PD! Agencies make their own rules and they seem to change with the wind.

Anything after the big four, aren't worth the time it takes to upload, if they would be accepted at all.

After trying some very specific topical subjects, I'd say No Market, but to be honest, a very slim to none market.  :)

All very true. People have tried to submit the Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and John Wayne stamps - in addition to being post 78, there are estate rights in play.

The laws differ for each country, For US, it must be post 78 as Race said. For old Czech and new Czech Republic, I can take nothing.  For France, the engraver's name is on every stamp, and he must have been dead for 70 years before I can take it. So even if the French stamp is very old, I have to ensure that the actual engraver is deceased. A time s_cking  black hole for a reviewer, and just not worth it. For Poland, the copyright law is even murkier. It says that all "modern" stamps are subject to copyright. So what defines "Modern"? I nix all Poland.

About the only ones I will take these days is maybe Cuba, maybe some very old Russia, some of the very old US 1,2,3,4,5 cents if canceled. For the GL site, the old US are more desirable (because our buyers are largely US based) if they are on an old yellowed postcard with the writing taken out. Not hard to do if you have a skilled hand.

As mentioned before, if you resort to shooting or scanning stamps for stock, you really need to rethink your game plan. It's just too low value and really a waste of your (and our) time. Same as the people shooting their camera bodies, flashes, lenses, filters, tripods, snoots, etc - I only on a very rare occasion take any of them any more. A Canon is still a Canon even with the name taken off. That red thing on your Nikon? That's part of their design and is distinctive to their cameras.

And a funny story. Someone once shot their camera bag, and I saw this little orange tag in the preview. I said - Gee I wonder if that's a Lowepro? Didn't even have to download the image - he had Lowepro in the keywords. So don't shoot the camera bags either.

It all depends on the context in which you saw the shots. If the shots were on the "high end" for a national campaign then clearance would/should have been obtained by the advertiser to use.

The first 6 (left) digits of the credit card are at issue because they are affiliated with financial institutions who issue the card. Unfortunately at GL, I am going to have to start removals of images accepted long ago. For credit card illustrations, using 0000 00 as the leading digits would be acceptable. You cannot use the mastercard circles logo and change the colors. You should not use the visa logo, change the color of the stripes, and change the word using italic uppercase text. Anything that breathes such similarity will be rejected.

We cannot accept "Full flat depictions" of any US paper currency. This is not a micro thing, it is a US Secret Service thing. If full face of currency is angled so that it could not reasonably be "printed as a bill", we will take it depending on the image. Full flat held by hand and partially obscured by a thumb "or object" ok. Horribly wrinkled up bills sometimes ok. Bills with big hole burned in, ok. Bills ripped in half are at the reviewer's discretion. We extend "full flat depictions" to currency of other countries as well.

Canadian currency - on new Canada currency the artwork is copyrighted. For the old stuff, we can no longer take any currency with depictions of The Queen. The Queen depictions extend to stamps too (of either Britain or Canada). Brit coins with the Queen must now be excluded. And just as a bonus for you, the new Canada passports also enjoy rights protection today, both inside and outside.

US Coins - cannot take any coins depicting art of the Native American series. There were a few Native coins issued a few years ago - those are off limits as well as the newly minted series.

US - cannot take backs of the 50 US States quarters. It is third party artwork. Other US coins - even pennies from the new Lincoln series, are ok as the art was issued by US Engraving Dept, not independent artists.

Canada - Cannot take the Looneys or "Twoneys".

Chinese money - that's one I did not know about so will have to look into that one.

We will also not accept partial scans of foreign currency simply to "grab a headshot" of the person on the currency because rights to publicity or estate rights may be an issue. It's really reaching for stock anyway, and if you have to resort to that to provide an image, you need to find other things to do.

There, now aren't you sorry you asked? You should be very afraid to get me started on stamps - that would be a much longer post ;-)

Mantonino's Answer was appropriate. GL Personalities is an invitation only collection at this time. It is tightly edited, and not all images get in. We have various reasons for making GLP invitation only.

While we are not actively soliciting people images right now from new sellers, if people images are sent they will remain in queue until we can properly evaluate them. And as the reply indicated, you use your own model release. Instructions for submission of releases is sent upon acceptance into GLP.

Thanks for you answer!

Well Ive already uploaded around 20 files, should I perhaps remove them? or?

best. lagereek

Not seeing you in my queue. What is your username? You can state here or PM me if confidential.

Right now I have a severe backlog of new people submitters but things are starting to move a little now. Stiil it will take a few days to get to you.

Had my first sale there this week since November.  Oh and for those that don't know the FTP is back up and if you don't already have one with them it's now automated.  Cept I have and eps and jpg stuck in the FTP that I uploaded last night.  I'll have to see if it's still stuck and give it a little bit more before I contact support or anything about it.

I'm not quite halfway to my first payout.  Glad to hear that they are fast with the payouts unlike Fotolia that does it when they feel like it.

Anita

For now we are doing manual transfers on the FTP, so not really stuck, they just have to be moved over. This is being a few times a day right now. The transfer will be automated when Daniel Decides on what the intervals need to be. For this moment, the site uploader is quicker because of autotransfer to Queue, sometimes just a few minutes.

Anyone is having problem with FTP in GraphicLeftovers?

We all are.  Details are here, although their 5-7 day estimate has turned out to be optimistic.  Their Flash-based loader works.

The backend work for the FTP has taken longer than anticipated. A server move is involved. Nuff said there I guess. We are getting close so don't fret too much. And as Hank says, the site uploader has been in service while the work is being done.

There has been an item in the Seller News which you can see on Login. When FTP is back in service it will be noted there as well.

GLR, I can't even log into the site itself, all I get is the message saying "site under maintenance, be back shortly" or something of the source, I've also try to log in throu MSG and it also gives me the same page, what's going on?

Try to refresh your browser while on the GL page. The site is up and has been up. That's what I had to do after getting the maintenance page on Sunday. If still no success, write us at the site - info at domain of graphicleftovers.com. Or if you prefer PM me with your user name and I will check on your account.

I've been having trouble with images using the site uploader.  Uploaded Sunday night and they never appeared.  Uploaded again last night and they showed up in the upload que.  They have all the data imbedded and usually go straight to the Pending Approval que.  I've processed them twice now selecting the Submit for Review button but they don't seem to move from over to the Pending Approval que and it's been several hours.  I was planning to give them til the end of the day then contact support if they are still stuck.  (same user name there and here - KLSbear)
I see them, and they have been there since your upload. Yes we did have a few hiccups on SUnday.

They don't go to Pending until they go through the content reviewer. Right now we have a logjam in queue but it is steadily moving. For some notes about how our system works, please see my more lengthy post from the other day above in this thread.

@mm - We never stop doing business. Some backend work is in progress this week. We do our very best to avoid outages during peak hours. As you all know, when dealing with computers and servers, sometimes the unplanned does happen.

Thanks for the reply GLR...let me rephrase my question, when are we going to be able to upload to the site again?...any idea?

Uploading via the normal site uploader is and has been open. Uploading via FTP is currently disabled. Check the Seller News on your account page for notification of when FTP uploading will be available again.

Yes. Please read my previous reply above.

Back last summer we had quite a logjam in Pending, and there was much confusion as to what users were cleared for property issues etc. So a SubPending Queue was created. I guess we could have named things a little better.

Images will stay in queue until they are cleared by the content editor for

1. First look quality
2. Commercial value
3. Property issues including trademark and copyright

We try to give all submitters a fair shot at getting images moved to pending as soon as is practical. If you have lots of buildings, people wandering around in your shots etc, it is likely you'll be hanging around in Queue for awhile before being passed off to pending.

We try and take new submitters in the order in which they arrive - our regular submitters have priority.

Vectors - since our reviewers have a high degree of expertise in the vector technical aspects and vectors are generally easier for us to deal with, vectors usually move ahead more quickly than photos unless  your approval percentage is low and there are repetitive technical issues with your EPS files.

Model released people images - if you submit people images requiring releases without an invitation or being pre-approved for submission, you'll also be sitting in Queue for awhile until we get to you.

Site is back up. If you still get that "file download" thing, try clearing your browser cache.

I don't have any further details at this time, but I'm guessing more problems with the hosting company.
