Stocksy / Re: Microstock photographers and Stocksy application
« on: October 15, 2014, 04:57 »
done in post with a filter. you can take any photo and make it look like that
Yes, appropriate filter can improve a photo but it's necessary to think about the colors before shooting. It's too late to to choose color scheme when photos are ready. If the colors don't match at all, filter can't help too much.

The worst of stocksy is that they dont want me...  :-\

Yes, it is :( I was also rejected, but I noticed that I'm thinking about my photos more than before and it helps me to improve.

Stocksy / Re: Microstock photographers and Stocksy application
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:22 »
4 girls walking down a road. a collection of berries. a pot of coffee. a  girl with candy cotton. Ok.

Stocksy sells stock photos so they have stock and commercial topics. I think the difference is that it isn't the most important and the only requirement.  They also concentrate on light, composition, colors, mood I like they allow their photographers to have their own style. Some Stocksy portfolios are very inspiring for me, I love to look at them.

Guys, i'm so happy, i've been accepted on stocksy!!

Great news! Congrats!!!  :)

4
Omg Magdalena, i'm so sorry to hear that. Don't throw the towel and try again in december! or try offset like Cobalt said! What kind of porfolio did you introduce to them? still life or lifestyle or food or?

I had various images in my portfolio, maybe too many. I need to clarify what suits me the most and I will try to focus on less subjects. If I will be happy with the result, may be I will try again. But I'm not sure if I will survive next three months waiting  ;D

5
Might be worth exploring the alternatives out there with the content you planned to send to stocksy? 500pix? Apply to Offset?

I have to decide. Although I wasn't accepted, it was a very useful experience for me. After years of working for microstock I began to think about my own photography again. Microstock gave me good money but I realized that I also lost something. I would like to find out which topics and what style of photography is most important for me personally now and I would like to include it to my work in some way. I hope it will be possible.

6
So finally I received a replay. My application was declined. Although it was bad news, I feel much better now. Uncertainty and long waiting were more difficult for me. I sent them a question regarding my application before and I was surprised that they sent me also a very kind answer to my email.

I don't know if I will try again (I can send next application in December). I'm not sure if I will be able to prepare new application and work for microstock together. I had great difficulty with it now and I'm afraid it will be the same next time. Perhaps I'm not able to do it. Stocksy and microstock are very different and it seems that I can focus only on one way of working.

7
Besides, your application is already submitted, isn't it?  So there shouldn't be any more work for you to do on it?
Of course my application is submitted but I wanted to do as much as possible so I improved my website. I added a lot of new images and I think it looks much better then three months ago and I'm glad for it. For this reason I wasn't able to focus on my microstock work at the same time. It was my decision, I had my reasons and I was sure I could afford it for some time but now I know it is too long and I have to change my approach.

8
If you photos are suitable for microstock, Stocksy will not want them ... if they are special for Stocksy I guess it will be hard for you to have profit with them in microstock (in this days).

Exactly, this is the reason  It isn't possible to shoot the same images for Stocksy and microstock and when I'm focusing on Stocksy application I have great difficulty with other work.

9
We have to respect the Stocksy's reviewers, if we want to get in.

We respect them but the term one to two months is from Stocksy information page for applicants so I hope they understand that we are concerned when we have no answer after three months. Such delay is a serious complication for some photographers because microstock is full time job for some of us.  I believe they are doing the best but each week waiting impacts all my family and it is very difficult for me.

10
Almost 3 months waiting! Are we sure they are going to reply to all of us? Out of the blue, i'm going to feel sad and nervous!

Same here, 3 months waiting. I'm very tired and disappointed. It seems to me that they aren't interested in my images when they didn't reply so far  :'(

They are working through the huge backlog.  I believe that there were 10 or so new members added last week.

Thank you Sean. Are they reviewing remaining applications from June finally? I'm very glad to hear about it.They wrote it can take one to two months to receive a response but we are waiting much longer and we don't know what's happened with our applications. I'm grateful for every information and explanation.

11
Don't put your work on hold because you're waiting for Stocksy!  Always keep shooting.

I'm shooting all the time but they rejected my microstock images last year so I decided to focus more on my own subjects and personal approach to photography and it is the reason why I set back my microstock work for now. My own photography and my microstock photography are very different and it's difficult for me to shoot both together.  I didn't expect I will have to wait  few months for replay... I have to do something useful finally and it seems that it will be better to start with my microstock work again.

12
Some documents are available also to applicants. I can find  bylaws, member agreement and supply agreement when I login although I didn't receive any response to my application.

Hi!
I've been waiting for about 6 weeks. In the meantime, I'm holding back uploading alot of images to my other sites in case I get in and want them on stocksy instead. If I don't get accepted, I'll put them all on the regular sites and start again for next year.

Jodie, how long will you hold up your images? I quitted uploading to microstock when I sent my application but it is 12 weeks already and I think I have to start with my microstock work again. I can't wait so long  :-\

13
Have you read their legal documents? Maybe there could be answers at least to some of your questions http://www.stocksy.com/legal/

14
Bruce Livingstone selling IS made more damage to the MS industry then anyone else. What's next selling Stocksy and than again..........

Probably he didn't know what Getty will do with iStock. I like that he is trying to do something new for photographers and stock industry now.

15
Thank you for your opinion, Ubermansh. I thought about it too a lot but I didn't find any rule relating to this question so I don't know if it is possible or not. It occurred to me that may be we can edit our applications when there is opportunity how to do it but may be I'm really wrong and they don't want it. I will see. If I knew for sure it isn't allowed I wouldn't do it of course.

16
It will be 11 weeks for me tomorrow. When I tried last year I didn't wait so long. May be they have much more applicants now and it is more difficult to select the most suited photographers.

Hi, my name is Valo. I applied Q2 - 2013, still waiting for their reply  ;)

WOW! You are a record breaker! Didn't you try to write to support?

Did you add new images on the same application of two months ago? That could be really interesting! :D

Yes, I think so. I added many images to my website portfolio later and I regretted I don't have some of them in my application too. When you will go to "Call to artists", then "Apply with Stocksy", "Continue" and "Login" (you must be logout before), you will find a page with your identity and your application images and you can add more. When you will upload them and finish you will receive the same confirmation e-mail as for the first time. But I really don't know if it will help somebody with his application or not.

Hi!
I applied on June 16th and I'm waiting and waiting... Yesterday I discovered how to add next images to my application and I decided to do it so I uploaded my application twice. I don't know if it was wise or not but I'm very tired out already so I wanted to try it. I hope it wasn't a mistake  :-\

So did you receive rejection after two months? I'm sorry to hear this. I hope the other birthday gifts are more pleasant.

My application is still under review too. I'm afraid they have a lot of applicants and may be it will take more time  :(

Does anyone know if stocksy is 100% checking our external portfolios?[/url]

Chelsea, I sent a question to Stocksy support and they assured me that they will check our websites  :)

Thank you for sharing your experience, epantha. Did you send them images from your microstock portfolio or something different? I was rejected with my microstock images last year so I decided to choose more personal work for this time but I don't know if to was good decision yet.

Does anyone know if stocksy is 100% checking our external portfolios?  I've had a lot of work this summer and my portfolio is very different and much improved.  It would be a bummer if my work couldn't be reviewed as a whole!

I hope they will check our external portfolio. I improved it later and I'm very sorry I'm not able to add some of new images to my application too. I applied 7 weeks ago and I'm still waiting.
