Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe AI content double standards
« on: October 16, 2023, 14:25 »
For 15 years now, I have been uploading what a now, not so famous stock photographer called it "Snapshot images" I am an Exclusive and never looked back. I will never play with AI. My portfolio has paid my mortgage  for a 2900 sq foot house in Florida every month from the third year I started. I am turning 65 next month and am very happy with the 22000 real life images I have in my portfolio. I don't worry or care what others do. I just focus on my own port. I can't believe 15 years has gone by so fast when this other photographer made me cry with every submission. I am older and wiser now. I can't lift my Canon5DM1V anymore because of fractures in my back but I still manage to get those "real life shots" everyone laughed at with my Iphone. And I must say, They do sell well. When AI came out I thought "oh goodie" I will just lay in bed and type words. I played around with different programs and the AI architecture pictures were so real looking. But nothing gives me the satisfaction of taking that"snapshot photo" and having it sell 30 times for the month. I still upload but not like I did every day for 12 years. Now I am just sitting back watching everyone look at other peoples ports instead of concentrating on their own and building the shots they have the talent to shoot. I am not with Adobe, but I do use all the photoshop programs. I am not going to upload the new version so there will be no mistake in my uploads. There are a lot of oldtimers in this thread that I have read for years without commenting but I thought It was a good time to drop in and say, shoot what you shoot best and you will never get in trouble with that. Your port won't be disabled. Keep looking at the fraudulent accounts and you will cause yourself a lot of turmoil on the very fast tract to age 65 when all you can hold is an Iphone. And actually I am very happy with the sales of my Iphone pictures. It isn't the camera, but the eye that looks through it.

I have two Canon 5D4's. I fell and can't lift them so I didn't shoot in over a year. I just bought the Iphone 11pro and this phone camera blows the Canon away! Everything I am shooting is getting accepted. The color right out of the phone for stock is fantastic. It even shoots in the dark without noise!

The phone is 12 MP and the 5D4 is 30.1 MP, so you're not getting the same in resolution.  It does NOT blow the Canon away.  It's a nice phone camera, but not a replacement for a dslr.  And according to this comparison article https://digital-photography-school.com/iphone-11-pro-versus-the-canon-5d-mark-iv/ they say, "As for noise and sharpness, I dont notice any issues when viewing the photos at a normal viewing size. But viewing the images large (which can be done here) shows significant noise and lack of clarity in all of the iPhone images."  So, you're not getting images in the dark without noise.  You're just not viewing them large enough to see it.
I bring them into lightroom like regular DSLR pictures and edit them. If there is noise I edit that. Since you have to keep uploading to make money in stock, I am thrilled to have a way to do it with a broken back. I always shot in RAW and never put anything up without editing it. I don't put phone pictures up without editing them either. I will never sell my DSLR's but this phone is unbelievable for what stock pays. I have a port of 22,000 pictures and will be adding a whole lot more because my phone is always with me. The type of stock I shoot doesn't need a camera the value of the 4 I own.

I always told parents signing a model release was safer than putting their kids on facebook when they didn't want to sign a release or have their kids picture on the Getty website! I always said FB info is easy to get. You put your kids picture up on FB to brag then you post when you are going on vacation, where you are eating, when you are taking a .....you get it..doesn't make sense to me.

All you have to do is contact support and explain the situation with the image numbers. They will open up the files for you. They did that for me when I lost a couple files.

Wouldn't brag about what Sean,
... Actually yours did change in a moment, but only moneterally because of your cockyness and own wrongdoingins.
What cockiness and wrongdoing?
Is looking at possible alternatives doing wrong? You'll be calling out thought crimes next.

BTW, I was also wondering: why did your caretaker at that time not become an exclusive, if he was earning five times less than you with near identical photos, at a time when going exclusive was still a reasonable business decision?
We Had a deal. I was paying him to take care of me and shoot on the side when I couldn't even hold a camera without help. He wasn't producing enough at the time, and I didn't let his pics go up on Istock for a couple of years. So with all his agencies together, they didn't add up to Istock Exclusive. He started uploading to Istock around our 4th year together when I realized how much he needed the extra money.
Sean I didn't break any exclusive rules. I would have much prefered to shoot on my own! I didn't need or want competitive pictures out there. I'm still making 5x what he makes and I don't shoot with him anymore and he uploads everywhere except stocksy.

Wouldn't brag about what Sean,
There for the grace of G-d go I.  You could walk in my shoes one day. At any moment your life can change in a second like mine did. So don't be so righteous Superman! Actually yours did change in a moment, but only moneterally because of your cockyness and own wrongdoingins.
I still need someone to shoot with me but now I am on meds that keep me from fainting when I bend down.

As for Lypses, I agree, they should be for exclusives because IS can't keep track of the pictures taken outside of the Lypse

My caretaker and I stood side by side for 7 years and shot exactly the same thing. I was exclusive with istock. He was not. I made 5x more money than him a month and still do even though we don't shoot together anymore. Our content looked exactly alike because he had to stand by me so I didn't fall. Point being, you can shoot with someone that is non exclusive and their images will look the same. Just like at a Lypse.

Don't be greedy. Remember the dog with the bone story. You have a Good thing going there. Congrats!

The OP didn't answer what camera he was using. The only time I got rejections was when I had a defective camera and didn't know it until the rejections started coming in. That camera went back and I got a new one and never had a problem again.

The guy above me said he was a buyer so I posted that. But if you call it bragging...OK. I agree. With all my hard work over the last 30 years with slides at RM agencies and 10 at IS, never missing a day uploading and still making a living, I've earned my bragging rights. I'll brag that I work really hard at stock photography.

Be careful when you post a portfolio link...  You never know what you'll get, lol.
you mean like sales? lol or copy cats?

This news could as well be sent via email to those whom it may concern. You could even call and tell them. If I was an editorial buyer, why would I bother to even think about searching images on such a picky and "elite" site? People need very diverse type of images; both editorial and commercial. Not only sparkling clear studio shots with perfect professional lighting. I myself needed a lot images that don't look stockie in the past and fotolia was not the right place to look.

News happen any time, anywhere and you never know who will need them, when and why they need them.
Well please keep an eye on my port, I shoot real life, real light, real people. Editorial and commercial,
Istockphoto.com/jodijacobson I have 22000 photo's online and add more everyday. I always have my camera on my shoulder. I also shoot on spec and put them up on Getty

Seriously? An advert?  ::)
Yes Seriously! How serious are you about making money?

I hope ADOBE does wonderful. I own 700 shares of their stock. I'm thrilled to be exclusive and uploading as much editorial to Istock/Getty as I can shoot, and getting paid well for it. Those 2 cent sales are few and far between.

21
Still pays my mortgage. And I get answered with respect. The same respect I give them. Still upload as much as I can. The more I upload the more I make. Speaking as an Exclusive. As Much as 2012 in comparison to uploads, No, but still happy.

I really can't believe what I am reading in this thread from one positive post Josephine made.
First of all I think it is great that you are so happy creating illustrations whether for yourself or for sale. It's great to see the sale counter click. You can't compare yourself to others, just keep doing what makes you happy.

I started stock in 2007 when I was in a very bad car accident. I was in the Mayo Clinic brain trauma center for 6 months. My camera was the only thing that kept me going. I had to learn to walk, talk and use the camera all over again. If it wasn't for that camera, I would have quit life. I used wheelchairs and mobility scooters to get around for 7 years. I still use the scooter when needed. My body overheats and doesn't regulate blood pressure so it can fall to 52/40 in a minute.
Like Josephine taking pictures is still one of the only things that makes me really happy. I am disabled but looking at me you wouldn't know it. I am only able to shoot for 10 to 15 min at a time.  Whoever said being in a wheelchair defines you as disabled is wrong. There are a lot of disabled people that aren't in wheelchairs.
10 years later, I still love taking pictures and by a lot of hard work happen to be one of Istocks high performers. I am a happy contributor.
All that really should have been said to Josephine was Great, glad you are happy...but no, this forum has to turn everything negative.

To set the record straight, 2 cents is a worst case scenario and shouldn't happen very often. You need to let the transition go into effect and see what happens. A lot of situations with the buyer have to line up for you to have a 2 cent sale.
