Think about this! in the rights managed industry (RM) at GI or whatever traditional agency. Buyers go there and buy for very specific reasons and most of the time they are prepared to pay.
Yet! believe it or not but sales above $. 200-300 gross, are not all that common anymore ( used to be thousands of dollars many years back).

Overpricing yourself isn't going to help, might insted lose sales. Pricing is a very intricate and psychological factor.

It goes much deeper than that. The gun is part of the American culture. Sam Colts famous singl action, the gun that " won " the west and all that, then followed up with the famous 1911 sem-auto, etc, etc. Big part of the American history. The western frontier made it even bigger.
How do you change that? How do you change the motto, " every American have the rights to defend themselves". Down in Texas, huge state, its about 99% for and 1% against.

This is so deep rooted its an impossibillity.

"A great majority of Texans 85 percent support requiring background checks on all gun sales. Texas Republicans favored the checks by 79 percent and NRA members by 65 percent in a poll conducted in April 2014.
The commissioners court in Travis County, TX. voted in February, 2014 to require that background checks be conducted on all gun sales in shows in its county facility.  The gun show operator did not accept the condition and no longer has shows in the county exposition center, located in Austin.

I know I am actually quite familiar with Texas, have some family over there. What I meant was, more strict control don't mean a ban of weapons or whatever. I'm afraid in most countries only a ban would be effective. Zero tolerance.

Yesterday's Daily Show with Trevor Noah was very funny and very to the point in addressing this huge american hypocrisy:

Enjoy this clip, in case you didn't see the whole show:

I know. Good post, read it this morning. Mind you about hypocricy. Show me one single country whose politicians isn't.

It may be so, but this is no reason to turn a blind eye to their double-standards and especially no reason to vote for such hypocrites.

Their pro-life rhetoric "begins at conception and ends at birth".
This is a good one :)

On the same topic, here is an attachment from viral post I came across.

Intresting! no youre right one shouldnt turn a blind eye. Thats bad. Just so little if anything one can do. Unfortunately! I wish it was more. Its a frustrating issue indeed. :)

still no answer?

No.

I thought I was getting an answer earlier today but it was from someone in their "Contributor Success" department asking me "at my earliest convenience" to tell them exactly where a particular image was taken (a customer wanted to know).

I was tempted to tell them that when it was convenient for them to answer my query from last week I'd be happy to answer, but no reason to ruin this woman's day for something another department did/didn't do :)

I will post when I get an answer, and if I haven't heard in a week, I'll contact them again.

" customer wants to know where an image was taken" ??  I have had four of these mails. What is it all about, is this some kind of " fishing for info" thingy. I'm getting suspicious, one of the images were taken in the middle of nowhere so why would it matter where it was shot?

Sure, more-strict yes. That doesn't mean a ban. Just more strict, i.e. controled licens, FAC, etc. Far cry from a ban.

Pauws99!  are you sure you were not a gunfighting town Marshall or a gun slinging outlaw like Billy the Pauws99 or something ;D ;D ;D

I don't care about IS anymore. They know its the last straw, know they are finished anyway. They hope all the thousands of rookies will remain, draining them of energy and at the same time earn a few pennies from them.

You can send me an email and I will put in the request for you. I have experimented with EL pricing in my personal portfolio and found very few sales when maximizing the price at 100 credits. Customers are very price sensitive as many that buy extended licenses are buying multiple images. For me, I decided that 60 credits was the right price. I still don't see a large volume of EL sales but definitely more than I did when set to 100. If the price is lower you will probably find more sales. You'll need to decide for yourself of course if you think the volume will counter the lower price.

My email address is: [email protected]

It was down for about an Hour and the spam is back, Big time. could be looking for Paypal acc's or LoginS??

If it were the the buyers part of the site, you can bet it would have been fixed in no time. We're just contributors exchanging messages of no importance to the main business of making the folding greenery.  :(

Yes but they could very well be looking into accounts, paypal, this, that. Maybe thats the next onslught? one thing is for sure the security is crappy.
Yet we have to go through this captcha rubbish twice to get in. Lousy!

Same here^^  I have thousands of pictures at both FT and SS. Adobe/FT is on fire right now, Emerald ranking and well below 400 but I have always been lucky with FT. Don't know why but maybe they have the right type of buyers for my shots.

Do you sort keywords of your images when you submit them?

Sort of. I do make sure that the first 10 keywords are exactly what the image is all about. The most important ones. Trying to imagine the keywords a buyer would use.

Its worked so far. :)

Thanks, I have to focus more on keywording in FT.
[/quote

first ten:  stick to single keywords. Further down you can use phrases. Thats what I do.

SS, is as always a great money spinner but sadly something happened after the IPO and it changed. The earnings are still the same but one gets the feeling its not all that happy a company anymore. They seem to have painted themselves into some corner and quite happy remaining there. Its become edgy, shakey.

Since the very beginning of my micro I have only bothered with the big four, GI and one more and can quite happily survive on the incomes from these, as far as incomes are concerned, no problem.

There is no doubt that sooner or later the shareholders of SS will without doubt put the thumbscrews on and it will without doubt derail the company, it always does, no matter what business.
Big question is, whats left after that, something? or plain nothing? :)

Their ranking system is a joke. It is INTENDED to control YOUR commissions. Think of the payouts they would have to make to people who keep uploading content if their ranking system were honest.  I could never get a high ranking there even when uploading 3,000 images.  This system was adopted by Istock and 123 as ways to control commissions.  By pushing new contributors they would pay less because they are in the base tier and lucky if they ever hit silver.  With all the other scum bag moves FOTOLIA has done I am SOOOOOO HAPPY I am no longer with them.  It is also hilarious that Mat is in here inferring that you sell your EL's at a lower price to get more sales. That is every agencie's go to logic when they want you to accept less so they can enjoy more.

Mantis!  now youre a serious player. Listen to this. This new Adobe/FT is a completely different avenue. I been criticizing micro for years and years, since good old Bruce sold Istock and thats many. many years back,  not here but openly and in bloggs, God only knows.
Adobe/FT right now is brilliant! can not fault it in any way. Mat is only doing his job and one of the very few that actually looks in here more then anybody from another agency.

Whatever beef you had with the old FT, forget it and let bygones be bygones. With your material you ain't going to regret it.

Start uploading instead, pointless letting yourself get irritated over cuts, royalties and percentages, this, that. I mean if we are sitting getting uptight with that, well might as well leave any form of stock alone.

just a friendly thought!

No, no point. I live in London but I still find it strange that as soon as something drastic happens in America everyone starts pointing the finger at them,  as if we Europeans should know any better, which we certainly do NOT.

Now had this lunatic walked around with a giant Bowie-knife slashing people we wouldn't have heard two words about it. The gun is the issue here, not 10 corpses, not their families but the gun. Sad!

But you DO know better. There are far fewer gun deaths in every other developed country in the world than in the U.S. Far, far fewer. Because the rest of the developed world takes guns seriously and has much more strict regulations about them.

The gun is the issue because, as I said, more than 30,000 people die every year here from guns. If we enacted laws similar to Australia's, for example, we could probably cut that by 90%. That's tens of thousands of lives saved every year.

We're accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees, BTW.

yes you are quite correct.

Oh dear there is nothing metaphorical about what you said. It is totally irrelevant whether I am 18 or 80.

In the UK there is a huge amount of concern about knife crime but I guess you haven't noticed it in your bubble (metaphor)

yes, yes, now move on.

Do you really believe that? You seem to have very selective vision of what is reported on the news......and when was the last time someone managed to kill TEN people with a knife in a single incident.

Oh boy! How old are you? just turned 18?   I was sort of speaking metaphorically you see. Now use Google and find out what that means.... Sigh!

Funny this conversation as it carries on. Here is a nutter shooting people and the main issue seems to be his gun??  right now in Europe there are tens of thousands of refugees, innocent women and children and around, 70 people a day are dying and that without any guns, knifes, crossbows, canons, bombs. They are just dying because countries don't wish to help, politics, political murder without a gun.------------------------------------------not a single word about that....some contrast isn't it.

The refugee crisis is awful. But more than 80 people are killed per day in the U.S. every year, year after year, by guns. More than 30,000 people per year...more than a quarter million over the last decade. It's a daily crisis here and has been for a long time.

yeah but we are talking between 70-100 people PER/DAY here!  children starving, decease, infections, viruses, stress. My brother is down there right now as a physician, he calls it murder by torture.
