How does not selling anything cannibalise your sales?

It not very likely but I don't want someone choosing to buy a photo of mine on CanStock when it's available elsewhere on sites where I can make min payout in the next decade.
Maybe cannibalised is the wrong word, more like wasted sales. If the buyer had chosen a site other than CanStock I could have realised that money by now.

CanStockPhoto.com / Attempting to close account and get payout
« on: October 15, 2018, 06:40 »
Decided I'm done with CanStock, fed up with no sales every time I refresh Microstockr.

Got a relatively small port but it's made me hundreds on some sites and thousands on the big ones. Uploaded around half my port to CanStock and has made me a whopping $16 in two and a half years.
At this point I've concluded I'm actually cannibalizing my sales by offering my photos on a site where sales are so low I'll never see the money, If someone really want's my photo better they get it from a site I'll see a payout from.

Requested they close my account and send me the outstanding balance.

Where does DM pull the sub-categories for Keywords, how did these come about in the first place with iS (only been doing this 18month so some history lesson required)?

It a time consuming extra step but even more annoying when for example I can't tag 'Civil Aviation' because the only suggestion is 'Ancient Civilization'.

The last thing I know for sure is that I was paid in December for November. DeepMeta 2 is still updating a figure which had a large amount removed from in January, no idea what is going on but meant to trust iS who can't handle a roll out and is now hiding our sales in what will likely be a hard to break down one-off monthly report.

Unless there is large upswing in sales I'm either no longer uploading or pulling my port even it means photo by photo.

You see de-focused images all the time so why shouldn't SS sell them. I've got a couple in my port, very popular as backgrounds, infographics etc. As long as they have a strong concept I've got no problem with them.

Agree with others their far more egregious stuff out there.

123RF / Re: Review time at 123
« on: January 29, 2017, 10:48 »
Uploading my port to 123RF, had a batch of about 150 approved recently with 1-2 weeks wait (can't tell exactly as didn't check for a few days).
Only thing worth saying was they seemed to be quite random in what was reviewed and not in order of upload.

Dreamstime.com / Re: New Images not selling well on DT
« on: January 28, 2017, 07:23 »
DTs default search is for 'Best Seller' as opposed to 'Most Relevant'. So old photos that have slowly built up sales keep getting pushed to the top (therefor sell more, stay top etc). Meanwhile your newer maybe more relevant and better quality photo is kept low down where there's less chance of selling because it hasn't sold.

Easy to see If you try searching yourself.
Why most folk on their forums who claim the site is still doing well signed up in the early 2000s where there was less competition, their photos sold so now are still top of the pile.

Alamy.com / Re: Any tips on keywording/workflow?
« on: June 17, 2016, 19:51 »
Rather than start a new topic I'll post here too. Despite Alamy's rise up the results chart I find it a huge burden to submit to them due to thier keyword system.

I know I should but I do not save keywords to files, instead uploading to one of the other major sites, keywording there and copy/pasting across to others. I find submitting to Alamy with the three tier system so time consuming even for a handful of photo's I tend to procrastinate and avoid.

If anyone has any tips/advice I would love to hear.

Adobe Stock / Re: Reason of rejection
« on: June 16, 2016, 16:36 »
I usually do one resubmission then move on. Of the 5 large agencies I submit to I find Fotolia to be the pickiest when it come to accepting images.

Their standard technical rejection email lists 9 things from focus to applied effect so not helpful. I find the majority of time it's focus, which they are very picky about, I reduce the resolution by a little, resubmit and 8/10 times it gets accepted.

I wonder if they read these forums at all? I also wish they would lower their payout. Maybe if we all requested a lower payout it might happen?

Won't happen, as long as you've got under $100 dollars they get to keep your sales. Like modern banking there isn't a pile of money somewhere with your name on just waiting to hit the payout total.

If they lowered the payout to a dollar and everyone at $1-99 withdrew it would probably bankrupt them at this stage.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Is this a new DT site???
« on: June 15, 2016, 07:39 »
I assume this is meant to be for Google image search not a legitimate attempt at a stock photo site. Spread copies of your images far and wide in the hope people find them on Google search and want the photo enough to follow back to DT and buy it.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Review time
« on: May 18, 2016, 14:11 »
Uploaded my first stock photo nearly a year ago to DT, one of the reasons I kept it up was due to the easy interface and fast review time.

The thing which I fear is that the increase in review time is due to them reducing the amount of reviewer it hires which would not be a good signal. Meanwhile they have launched a sister site andhave announced they are accepting audio, it all smacks a little of desperation.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS must really be a mess
« on: March 24, 2016, 14:38 »
Been at this game for a few months now and I'm $4 away from my first IS pay out with a week to go until the end of the month. I just know those $4 of sales will get reported to me on the 1st or 2nd of April even If they sold today.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How long are reviews on 500px?
« on: March 21, 2016, 14:58 »
Was put off by the idea of posting large unwatermarked images, especially when sites I read say you will get photos stolen and there are apps designed to skim anything that hits a certain popularity.
But the thought of maybe landing a sale with a 70% return, even for a cheaper Web Only rate made me start submitting less than a week ago, looks like I'm bad luck sorry :D

What they are in danger of it destroying the image that they are somehow not microstock but a place for unique, exceptional photos which I'm sure attracted a large portion of their clients looking for something special.
These unique photos is obviously their core business which is why they are pushing exclusivity so much in a bid to keep the best photos to themselves but I can't see it working that way, quite the opposite in fact.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Canstockphoto - is it worth it?
« on: March 06, 2016, 19:32 »
Based mainly an article on a popular Microstock blog where Canstock had made a large jump in their earning for 2015 I decided to give it a try having started out at DT, IS & more recently SS. My portfolio is not large having only been doing microstock for about 6months, 350ish images but quite varied and including models. I ended up uploading 160 but was too busy to finish the rest and decided just to sit it out a few weeks and see If anything happened before I uploaded the rest. A month later and nothing, nada, not ever a subscription sale, 12 total views is all I have to show for it with images SS or IS seems to have no trouble selling on a regular basis.

It is quite a small sample size but I'm really not sure I'm going to bother uploading the rest of my images and make it part of my routine unless something amazing happens fast.
