Newbie Discussion / Re: Traditional White Backgrounds
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:06 »
I use white poster board. You can adjust your levels in PS. If you are shooting in raw you will not get the noise and data loss if you correct it before converting to JPEG. You can also use layers to blow your background white and keep proper lighting for your subject. It's quite a bit of work though for each image. Just some things I used before I got my lighting down.

Points well taken. I agree. I don't mind rejection when I can learn from it but this is just silly. They sent me an email back and told me to bear with them as they send my image back for further review. I think I will just ask them to close my account. Thanks!

yeah sometimes it is confusing for you to know you have done their thing.. maybe you done it in the way it is a mistake for them... try another thing similar to crestock....  :o

Do you mean something similar to what they have on their site or something similar to what they rejected but in a different way?

Newbie Discussion / Crestock is so confusing...
« on: February 09, 2011, 19:35 »
Well...cool that one of my 6 images on crestock sold only about a day after being approved. However...I submitted about 50 or so images and only 6 were accepted. 4 of those were PS illustrations. I had just sent an email to them before I got the sold image email to complain about one image in particular that was rejected for composition. I have never sent an email to argue about a rejection. But this was simply insulting. I have read the complains in many threads about their rejection rate, and I am no stranger to rejection. I have no problem getting rejected for all of the technical things, I have no problem getting rejected for some of my images based on composition, but when you reject most of my favorites that are strong in composition with no technical complaint and then accept only two of my photographs that are far from my most pleasing in composition I am confused! I am on the fence on weather to stay or go. I guess I will see what they say in return from my email.

I am bummed. I made the mistake of deleting a whole folder off my computer from freezilla! I honestly thought I was clearing the queen folder. Boy was I mistaken! I won't make that mistake again (I hope...). I am grateful there were only 7 photo's in it :-\ Anyone have a similar story/mistake to share???

Anyone know what Freezilla is?

I'll stop right there and let you figure it out.

Is this spam or a joke?

No, it is not a joke nor is it spam, and quite frankly your post is neither helpful or polite... :-[

Sorry but I went and looked and it was one of those "Free Movies" torrents and rapidshare sites. So I thought maybe you were pulling our legs, pointing to the free photo and video downloads... Illegal sharing?

From their site: All these files are freely available on internet in rapidshare or megaupload links or Torrents. I download them and upload them in mediafire so that the users who dont have premium accounts or those for whom Torrents dont work can also download them.

Not being perfect, I have deleted files by accident. If you haven't done too much on that volume, adding or defragging, this works, it's free and... It Works!  ;D Works on CF cards and that's why I needed it. Oops, I thought I backed up that card before I formatted it?

You might still consider me impolite considering what I found on the site that you got your lost files from. But maybe the link change the helpful part? :)

Yes, I am sorry...It is filezilla. My fingers didn't do what my brain thought and my eyes didn't catch the mistake. Forgive my jumping to conclusions...Yes helpful and thank you for clarifying :)

Oh in that case, forget about the pirate site and I hope you understand why I asked if you were joking, since it was a free file sharing place! :D

Yes, the less you have done on your drive the better chances of recovery. I carry FreeUndelete on a thumb drive in my pocket. That drive also has a defragging software and some other basic utilities that I feel I don't want to do without should I want to help someone someday. Oh yes, MBAM (Malware Bytes) also fits on that drive.

If you don't like the version I pointed to, I know for sure the one I use is free and tiny and works. I'll email it to you as an attachment.

That would be great! Thank you for the help! I took my email off hidden. And I do understand why you asked if it was a joke. Big difference between the site I meant to mention and the site I typed ::)

things are very rarely totally deleted.  If the photos were important you should be able get them back.. if you want..
Sure I would love to. I did some checking online and found software that can do this. I guess if I had deleted a great portion of photo's it would be worth the money, time and effort to do so. I had the raw unfinished photo's still on my desktop. There were only 7 or so that were deleted. I will just reprocess them.  I am just blessed that it was only 7 and not 100 or so. Hard lesson learned with just a little consequence.

They were on my external. I check the trash bin. I want to check again now.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What do you use for keywording
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:24 »
I use PS it seems to do a great job. Interesting to see all the different ways!

12
I would say for those of us just starting out, trying the waters at all of the well knowns, and some of the not so well knowns is the best option. It's a fumble process. I only know enough to know how much I don't know... ::)

13
Congrats! I hope to be as upbeat in three years when I look back :)

14
Yes, i understand all of your comments, which is why I said microstock blew my theory all to heck. You must produce work everyone like to sell. I didn't mean to sound as if I didn't understand that aspect of the work. Thank you your posts!

Off Topic / Re: Personal website

I use yola sites for a free and betterphoto for portfolio showcase.

I would like to also add the I joined microstock a little over a year ago, added some images and then stopped due to time consumption. Now that both are my children are in school I may have more time to practice and add images to my portfolio. It's the upload process that kills the dream. I don't mind the rejection quite as much as I mind filling out 50 descriptions only to have 10 or so accepted or less. I so wish they could approve images before all the painstaking work was poured in to them...Anyone learn tricks to ease the pain?

17
I admit it...my name is Beth and I have a heavy hand when it comes to PS editing. I love the topaz filter, and I love HDR. I love to break the rule of thirds and many others. I spent years overcoming my desire to please others with my work. When I finally learned the balance between constructive criticism and simple difference in taste I discovered the microstock market and it blew my progress all to heck. I have to say it has pushed me to become a more technically proficient photographer. I still have miles to go. However, I do find that some images are simply rejected for differ in taste. I'm not deluded in the fact that most of the images I have rejected are for valid reasons, but there are times that I believe great images are rejected because the reviewer does not have the same affinity for the over the top. I say this because I see other over the top landscapes that sell. Anyone else find that some of their images are rejected due to differing taste?
