I'm going to drop my crown. That's about all I can do. I've started an Angry Istockers Facebook page if anyone wants to join.

I'd be more than happy to add some admin.

iStockPhoto.com / Vector Exclusitivity - Should I drop it?
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:51 »
I have a portfolio of close to 900 image on istockphoto.com.
http://www.istockphoto.com/search/portfolio/840626/?facets={%2225%22%3A%226%22}#1fae6c1f

Istock used to be the premier site for selling vectors. I've been on the fence for a couple years now about trying other sites. Would you think other sites would be just as difficult as istock? "Difficult" meaning, dropping sales, low visibility, deceiving.

Any thoughts? Shutterstock is working with exclusives right now, so I'm doubly thinking about dropping exclusitivity. I've seen all the google/istock issues, but am just not sure how other sites do with vector art.

Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Chris3fer

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Poor vector sales - Same IS bla, bla, bla...

My  vector sales get worse and worse every month. I was mainly staying exclusive with istock for their "copyright protection". I found one place that stole my image and said they drew it. Istock said they see nothing in violation. The last time I found one of my illustrations being made into a toy in China, they told me to go find a lawyer they won't do anything about it. So.... The "copyright protection" they pretend to give exclusives doesn't exist, so I am searching for more options. So sad.

Pretty sure he just wants to rant and posted in the wrong forum.

I also think I'll go with " tool with an opinion." that will be my next blog title.

My 4 year old draws pictures that she thinks are amazing. Should I demand that istock accepts those into their library because she says they are good enough?

From the link you provided, Jesus and the cross look really flat compared to the rest of the scene. The sharp difference in the lighting in the sky also throws me off.

The only files I've had accepted so far into Veta this round are questionable. Not files I consider to be "vetta material"

Well big congrats to the videographers and illustrators for hanging tough and getting some concessions.  Still not an ideal situation, but better than what was on offer before.

If I were an exclusive illustrator or videographer, I would be working to get my portfolio ready to go independent by the end of 2012/beginning of 2013 when all the rules change.

Yep.. That's where I'm at.

A few more hours and we may have another addition to the broken promises list   :'(

I'll get the "Istock Epic Fail" thread warmed up so that it's ready for action.

HAHAHA

Anyone wanna take bets on if they will actually say anything this week?

All vector, all the time.

My vectors were virtually gone from the search last week because they were so far back in the search. This week they are back near the front. Its sad to think that their best match "tinkering" changes everything so drastically.

And nowwwww its gonna get locked. To help us deal with it. That's just super. I would have deleted too if I was Dave. Istock is cutthroat and doesn't mind sending threats through email about account removal and whatever it wants. I admire him wanting to tell us all what's up, but totally understand why he decided to hold off.

This NDA "We can't say anything yet" business is just weird.

Exactly. Still no news. I guess they are hoping that just because there was a conference call, all the dissenting voices will be silent. Why can't they just make their "big announcement" and be done with all the stupid drama. Why even have the conference call when the people can't even talk about it? And if there is going to be a "big announcement" why have the conference call at all? The whole thing is so cloaked in such ridiculous drama, and it's clearly just one big diversionary tactic.

The whole thing is just naive.

I agree that they would probably delete anything that promised stuff that they have no intention of delivering.

The conference calls are pointless, as the first/last one demonstrated.

I agree, completely useless.

Nico_Blue just did a list of all opt-outters. Pretty cool. hope it continues to grow.

I submitted 3 logos initially for a test run. Nothing fancy, just mid-level work to test the waters. I pulled them around the 1 year anniversary of nothing happening. So ridiculous.
