General Stock Discussion / minimur resolution
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:48 »
Hi all I have been out of stock photography for a few years now as my camera broke and haven't been able to replace it but am looking to get back into it now with the purchase of a new slr what are the requirements these days of the various sites with regard resolution? I don't want to get a 12MP camera just to find they now require 18MP or something like that

Cameras / Lenses / canon a720 advice
« on: August 08, 2008, 05:25 »
Hi all I am looking at replacing my current underwater p&s pentax w30 with a canon a720 and underwater housing as I am starting to dive deeper and deeper beond the w30's limits.
I cannot afford a slr yet so still in the p&s arena any comments good or bad on this camera.
I think the is will be a huge advantage on the type of action type shots I often take.
just looking for ppl's opinions on whether this camera will be suitable for stock in the price range.

thanks

one sugestion for underwater photography is make sure you clear any bubles from youre lens once youre in the water I have had a couple of dives where most of the pics were usless as a buble or 2 were stuck on the rige at the ege of the lense this was in my pentax w30 dont know if this will be a problem on youre housing but it is somthing to look out for. the efect is the same as water droplets on youre lens above water unfortunately Ive had to bin (stock wise) plenty of realy nice diving kite surfing and wave surfing pics for these problems

Hi all I am busy looking for a new camera for my father. These are prety mutch what ive narowed it down to as he wants point and shoot with decent zoom. Any pros and cons I should be aware of before I make my desision or any alernative sugestions in a simaler price range and feature set. I am probably going to be borrowing it a lot for stock so that also needs to be a concideration.

thanks.

« on: September 19, 2007, 04:55 »
Hi all a friend of mine whants to sell his nikon d50
It is in prety good nick  the sensor just needs cleaning. He is seling it with a 75mm - 200mm lens which is now only manual focus as the auto part broke.

What would be a resonable offer for this equipment?
as I have no idea on prices for second hand camera equipment

Cameras / Lenses / Re: what camera for living on a boat?
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:07 »
hey there boatman please report back as to the conclusion as I am in much the same situation being a yacht skipper myself.

I recently bought the pentax w30 which is 100% waterproof up to 3M depth I have tested it and it definitely works got some great shots of my keel and some coral and stuff.

Only problem is that you don't have any option on lenses and not many on the setup of the camera but on the plus side you can Carry it on you're hip or round your neck whilst sailing and not miss those fleating shots.

I highly suggest it for all those involved in boating. Whilst not the best  as you're main stock Camera great for making sure you don't miss anything on the wetter side of life.

PS: this is what I use for all my stock photography since I started +- 1 month ago. nothing sold yet but Ive only got a portfolio of about 10 pics and most of those are only from the last week

Cameras / Lenses / pentax w30 for microstock
« on: June 14, 2007, 16:15 »
hi all I work on sailing yachts  and am thinking about geting into microstock photography to make a few bucks on the side. Seeing as I see a lot of awsome sights while working sealife islands ect.
The sales ppl at a few stores Ive been to sugested that I should get the pentax w30 camera as they said that it was the only camera they thaught would stand up to the harsh environment humidity and salt air.
My fear is that this is too much of a simple point and shoot and will not get the great shots that sell what do you guys think?
