Thanks Andrej.

Yes, I double-checked with Adobe before opening a separate account, it is legit.

2
Thanks a lot Andrej!

Just to make it clear... you upload both (AI and regular photos) to your main account from 2012 and
- photos get an ok review time
- AI content take an extremely long time?

P.S. My review times for regular photos are fairly decent - usually within a week (13K port)

AI Generated Stock Photography / Separate vs regular account
« on: March 15, 2024, 11:02 »
Hi everybody.
I have an established AS account which performs pretty well (no AI images). I opened a separate AS account for AI images 3 months ago. It performs relatively ok, but the wait times are incredibly long. It takes 4-6 weeks on average for them to accept 200 images, I'm capped at 500 in the queue and I have started thinking if it was a wise strategy. (The whole reason for having a separate account was "if they ban AI account then my real one will remain intact)

A couple of questions.

1. Is it true that established accounts that were there for about 10 years have much faster AI acceptance rates?
2. Would you advise mixing AI and regular content in the same portfolio?

Thank you!

I think this thread explains it - and other users have seen what you are seeing.

https://www.microstockgroup.com/shutterstock-com/new-data-data-set-licensing/

The logic, however self-serving, is that you're opting out of it being used currently, but they put it in the catalog (and I guess contributors have to trust them that it's disabled; there'd be no way to check that) so you could later change your mind and turn that option on.

Thank you, so it actually means that once the image is rejected there is no resubmission with corrections.

Has anyone received an official confirmation from Shitterstock that images cannot be deleted from Data Licensing? Below is the excerpt from ongoing correspondence I have with SS:

On the other hand, our Tech team is working on releasing the option to remove current images from data licensing. We appreciate your patience and understanding and trust me, we can feel your frustration regarding this matter.

Interviewer: Good to catch up with you again DJ so since SSs new payment tier system and the introduction of A.I. and free give aways, have you found that your bottom line has moved south at all.
DJ For sure but you know because I listen to my own advice ... via my online course ... I have managed to diversify to soften the blow. And my average income from stock is a modest $348.00 per hour.
Interviewer Only Fans right?
DJ *smirk ... feetfinder ... bunions and calves like canned corned beef next to a bar fire, who knew.
Interviewer Before you discovered your new audience what kept the money rolling in?
DJ Well it was being modest and quietly humble. I think having someone to look up to in the industry really was what saw my meteoric rise in popularity with the gullible iPhone owners of Bangladesh struggling through their formative years. And of course they saw a famous, rich, videographer who's talent bordered on prodigy and yeah, they thought collectively, they wanted some of that. Of course I was duty bound then to rise to the heights of the pedestal everyone I had ever met put me on. And I exceeded their expectations. Obviously. I taught them they needed three things to equal my success.
1. My course.
2. State of the art computer.
3. A Shutterstock profile.
That's it.
Interviewer What about a camera?
DJ I don't count that because I already had a camera.
Interviewer A camera set-up worth in excess of $60,000.00+ bucks.
DJ Whinging about equipment wastes my time. If you want to be a successful stock videographer then you'll buy professional equipment but not before you've bought my course.
Interviewer You've also got access to regular rocket launches and regularly film and TV location contracts.
DJ Right and the money I make from stock footage is just stuff I would film anyway even if I didnt have those press passes and contracts. I would just do it from much, much, further away.
Interviewer Well thanks DJ it has been my honour to catch up.
DJ If anyone does want to change their life and become a less worthless human for once and excell please find my course at alphamalesnapper.com/ronburgundy and remember ... you're only one snap away ...  ☝️😉 ... from the top.

LOL.

I opted out of Shutterstock Data Licensing. Three days later some of my images still automatically go into the  Data Licensing catalogue.

Anyone is experiencing the same issue? If yes, were you able to resolve it?

Cheers!

Btw, I didn't ridicule him. I simply proved him wrong.

I see no problem with ridiculing and lighthearted fun. After all, if we are being gaslighted it justifies a little pushback.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about. I think Doug's earnings can be easily bumped up to 600$ per hour. Some examples.

- If the person immensely enjoys keywording, it's a passion, so why include it in calculations? Should be dropped off the list.
- Resubmitting AI rejections and regular rejections from other agencies is actually fun. Looking at this green bar moving while a file is being uploaded is tantalizing. In fact, resubmitting is such fun that deleting an asset and resubmitting it again is a legit passage of time. So again, why count resubmissions toward time spent?
- Enjoy scouting locations before shooting? (Some drone pros do that before shooting footage). Why count this towards your time if you would do this for fun anyway.
- The list is long. Love flying planes or driving across the country? Total fun, who doubts it? Travel photographers can take it off the list.
- Need to buy SD cards and external disks? Spending money is fun, no need to include it. That's why people enjoy shopping on the weekends.
- Keeping up with backups of your footage and copying stuff over to external devices? Again, this is fun, people do it just out of passion for backups.
- Paying for stock submitter for multiple uploads? Love it! Charging multiple batteries? Fun! Oh, almost forgot.... the wonders of maintaining equipment. It's a dream come true.

And don't forget the spiritual aspect of it - laughing all the way to the bank is a liberating and enlightening experience.

There is literally an unlimited potential for inflating your earnings by excluding fun things. Give Doug some slack, he is pretty conservative with his exclusion list.

I came by, made the little baby cry, and now I'll leave before he wants me to change his dirty diaper.

Seriously Doug... this is the level you expect us to go down to?

Probably just got lucky here but there appears to be some life left in this industry.

Congrats Alex, but probably the wrong thread! lol

Any reasonable contributor would laugh at what Doug says...
- 5 minutes to colour-grade the quality video, provide metadata and upload/submit
- 348$ per hour earning rate
- not including travel and fuel costs in the calculation.

C'mon, guys, why are you splitting hairs and dealing with semantics when such BS is being shovelled right in front of you?
It defies logic and experience on such a spectacular level that even the discussion about it should seem preposterous.
He's trying again to sell courses - fine by me, but not at the expense of gaslighting contributors into believing such outlandish claims.

Average time to edit, grade, add metadata, and upload each clip:   5 minutes

Right...

Yeah, screw Doug, the guy is incredibly arrogant and annoying.

Hi guys, how do you find where your images are used? (legally or illegally)

I used to do Google reverse search which is a pain in the butt.
Recently there seems to be an improved tool https://petapixel.com/2023/06/13/vecteezys-ai-powered-reverse-image-search-tool-is-surprisingly-impressive/
If you tried the Vecteezy tool extensively, what's your feedback?

Anything else you have in mind?

Thank you.

General - Stock Video / Question about 4096x2160 vs 3840x2160
« on: January 29, 2023, 20:38 »
Hi guys, recorded some videos in 4096x2160 by mistake, Started digging if SS accepts it and found this (see attached screenshot)
As per the article https://support.submit.shutterstock.com/s/article/What-are-the-technical-requirements-for-footage?language=en_US
they actually prefer 4096x2160.
As they say "resolutions in bold are preferred" and the first resolution in bold is 4096x2160

It got me confused. 4096x2160 is not 16:9 which is the most popular aspect ratio, and if memory serves me - if you upload 4096x2160 to youtube it will place some 'filling bars" to emulate 16:9.

Kinda curious:
1. Which video resolution do you use to upload to SS, P5, and AS?
2. What are your thoughts on 4096x2160 vs 3840x2160 from a sellability perspective?
3. Did you ever sell a 4096x2160 clip?

Thank you.

Guys at SS, do something about it - EVERY year at least 3 TIMES all configurations disappear from the stock submitter after program updates. All agencies, all custom configurations, all pricing - all get wiped out. I spend at least 5 hours a year just fighting with your program. This is unbearable and unacceptable for the amount of money that is being paid. Quality control is below any acceptable level. Support is good, but what's the point of great support if the coding is so crappy that it makes my life so difficult.
I'm very tired of the responses that I usually receive that in short can be summarized as "we are not sure what it is it is probably you"
I waited 2 years and didn't post anything hoping that 'this is the last time when it happens", but it keeps happening, and honestly patience is running very thin at the moment.

19
Good article! I'm sitting on the fence with the drone  purchase for now.

Same here, they've been feeding me this BS for the last 2 months.

We completely agree. I understand nothing we say can help the situation, but please know that paying our creatives is our top priority! I wish I had more control over the situation but we will get you paid.

We love working with you and soon once we sort out these delays we will work as a company to reduce payment terms.

Kind regards,

General - Top Sites / Re: My first month with Freepik !
« on: April 24, 2022, 07:43 »
I could understand why people had issues with Freepik a couple of years ago (it never occurred to me to upload there) but at this point of the game, I can't see much of a difference. SS sells videos for 25 cents, IS sells images for 1 cent, EM sells images for 1 cent, * Alamy goes on promotional sales galore and sells images for 3 cents gross - and everyone agrees that this is absolutely bad. Of course, it is. Yet when Freepik sells images for 6 cents... it is unacceptable? Kinda defies the logic.

I don't have a 100% formed opinion about Freepik yet but what I see so far makes them as acceptable earner as any other stock agency.
I made 180USD on 2000 images in the first month; this month I'm on track to make 120-130USD.
I see no problem having this money, especially in my current state where money doesn't come easy at all and I'm generally struggling.

I will be posting a review on https://brutallyhonestmicrostock.com/ about Freepik- in the spirit of Alex's approach, it will be unbiased and will contain both - negative things that encountered so far that really bug me and positive things.

I also uploaded some files to another unlimited download site - Vecteezy, nothing encouraging so far, but the average sales there is 9 cents. Again, pretty bad, but what's the difference between this and other agencies...

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, if you want to write articles shouldnt you be a bit less biased? Reports are that RPD is usually around 7c but lets go with your 9c.

I will go with vectors as that seems to be mainly what Freepik has a history in and still mainly trades in. Some of these sites I no longer upload new work to because of poor RPD (BS, DP, IS, SS) but as a comparison all approx based on last year and so far this year:

Bigstock RPD: 45c
Depositphos RPD: 48c
123RF RPD: 90c
DT RPD: 75c
AS RPD: 95c
IS RPD: 70c
SS RPD: 68c

So whats the difference you ask? The answer is HUGE, VAST, an order of magnitude in some cases. Is this the sort of journalistic integrity we can buy too?

We look differently at it. You look at RPD, I look at the bottom line and care only about the bottom line.
As an example:

My 10k+ Alamy port gives me very decent RPD - around 10$ per image. But the sales are minuscule.
My Freepik port gives me crappy RPD but better earnings than Alamy.
The choice here seems pretty obvious to me.

I'm not doing art photography, and as painful as it can sound for some - none of us do - it is microstock. I upload to have an income that helps me. I see no shame in saying 'I'm in it for the money. If your approach is different, it's totally fine.
Your whole post was justifying uploading to these sites based on sales at other sites now having similar RPDs? It's right there; "what's the difference followed by a list of low return sales on other sites. Now you've shifted the goal posts.

Sure, whatever rocks your boat. I thought my point is quite clearly articulated, if you are not satisfied - have it your way, I'm not really into holly wars.

StockSubmitter provides incredible support, to be honest, much more than I pay for. I use a low-level Lite plan and the support has been truly amazing. Dmytri is a great guy and I'm absolutely sure there is nothing in this announcement but pure business need.
