Messages - Five Thumbs

Wow. Thanks for the feedback Steve, I really appreciate that you've put a great deal of time and effort into testing it out. Straight away I can see some things I can work on.

In answer to your feedback:

I set it so that only registered users can play to limit spam or inappropriate suggestions. I was considering adding a 'report' button but wouldn't be able to trace the culprit if non-registered users could play. Certainly worth considering though.

I haven't worked out how to do plurals as yet! Currently beyond my coding ability.

Yes. The images do seem to have very random keywords, but they are what the contributors believe to be the most appropriate! You've actually helped me already as my image is the barbecue and I received your suggestions. I hadn't even considered the word Weber. So that part worked exactly as I hoped it would!

Showing the keywords after submission is a great idea. Or perhaps I should add a button to end the game early then show them?

Your images displayed on the home page are taken at random from the ones you've added from DT. I notice you've only added one, so they aren't showing up. I'll need to rewrite the code to only display images if all five are added. That's exactly the type of testing I needed, thanks.

I've fixed it so that only your first efforts are sent to the contributor as I thought it would be more spontaneous, and they wouldn't be inundated with emails from the same user. I'll keep this in mind though.

Good point about the five green thumbs being on one image. You can try as many times as you like though it can get frustrating can't it  :D Your 'show keywords' idea would work well here, or maybe a 'show one more' button.

I will make the 'add images' info more prominent as suggested. That's a really good observation.

I agree I need to make the instructions clearer. It's just working out where to put everything on the page without it looking cluttered.

You're right that I may have to add more images to the home page. I was trying to keep everything in fives but more may be better in this instance.

Thanks again for your help. Looks like I've got some more coding to do!!!!!!!

Dreamstime.com / Help required testing a new Image Keywords Game
« on: September 16, 2019, 17:58 »
Hi all,

I'm a Dreamstime contributor and have recently been teaching myself php coding. I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone might like to help me test a new stock based website I've been working on in my spare time.

Alongside a traditional image search, I have developed a 'Stock Image Keywords Game' to try out my new skills.

http://five-thumbs.com

I wanted it to be a fun way for contributors to help fellow artists with keyword suggestions. Especially those for which English may not be their first language.

It's a little rough around the edges (I'm still getting to grips with CSS) but I think the basic coding works. It just needs a good old-fashioned testing.

Basically, contributors can sign up for free and add five of their Dreamstime image ids to the database along with just five keywords. These become searchable to buyers who can then link to Dreamstime to make a purchase.

When someone plays the game itself, an image is selected at random and they have to guess which keywords were used. If they get one right first time they get one of their own images featured on the home page. If they go on to get them all right, they get all their images featured.

The suggested keywords are sent to the image creator to give them an idea of what others believe their keywords should be.

I hope it will be a fun and useful resource and look forward to your comments and ideas. But please remember, I'm new to this coding lark so please bear that in mind! Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy - is it worth it?

@medveh. I submit both photos and vectors to Alamy. About 50/50 in terms of content with more vector sales than photos. On average, my vectors sell consistently for about $20 each.

I haven't uploaded any vectors on Alamy, because I saw that price is always 9.99$ (https://www.alamy.com/contributor/how-to-sell-vectors/how-alamy-sell-vectors/?section=6).

And you are selling for 20$... Am I missing something?
You might be right there Lina. My overall average is $20+ but that's dropped in the last year or so. They might have changed it because before last year I was getting a lot more. I don't sell by the bucket load so probably missed the change!

I am $1.92 $1.22 $0.87 shy of my next payout - let's hope they stay in business long enough to get that over $100 :)
@Jo Ann, After two months on $99.48 I've just had a sale of $5.47 to take me over the threshold. Phew! Hope you get there soon!

What I'd like to know is if there's anyone with vector graphics that sells well on alamy, is it worth uploading vector graphics at all?
@medveh. I submit both photos and vectors to Alamy. About 50/50 in terms of content with more vector sales than photos. On average, my vectors sell consistently for about $20 each. My photo income is random to say the least. Anything from $0.83 to $310 per image. I don't get anywhere near the amount of sales as AS or SS but it's a pleasant surprise when I do get a sale. I'd say go for it!

...and this may be just co-incidence but I was uploading a batch every day and as soon as stuff got approved sales started coming in...

Interesting observation StockDaebak. Just out of interest. Were the sales of your new content, or older content, or both?

Me too. My illustrations are selling particularly well. Especially ones uploaded about ten months ago. New uploads aren't selling as quickly as they did on Fotolia for some reason. I remember a few years ago uploading a file to Fotolia, then going on to upload it to Shutterstock. Before I had finished keywording on Shutterstock I had an email to say it had sold on Fotolia!!! How I wish that was the norm  :)
