Images from Getty Moment contributors have gone live today on the site, for those who might be interested.

What kind of "mobile image" is it that is selling?  What defines it as a "mobile image" apart from being shot on a phone?  Is it something you couldn't do with an SLR?  Is it released?

Its just a "mobile image" by virtue of coming from my iPhone.
The same images could theoretically be produced with an SLR  and then post processed to achieve the same look.  Personally, I prefer to achieve the look in-camera/phone by understanding how my composition/lighting/etc will work with the particular app I'm using. Not just pointing and hoping for the best, but knowing that this app (or setting) will achieve XXXX under "ideal" circumstances - so what will it do if I move  left? OR block some light? OR get down on the ground? OR whatever.

By "is it released" do you mean model released?  If so then yes,  if its a creative image featuring people. My editorial shots are not, because they don't need to be.

I was invited and have had a few images accepted already. I've been contributing mobile-generated shots to Getty for a while now though. There's a small number of us who were invited 2 years ago (maybe 150 photographers?) and I think we were the test case for producing this app. I have quite a few mobile images that sell regularly, so I really think that when buyers understand what they're getting, they shop for the look of the photo - not pixel perfection.  It can be a real win-win.

The facebook group and page are live as well.

The submissions. That "faded color" look is hot in all the commercials right now.

Hmm. I'm seeing a fair variety of style. Nothing groundbreaking though - they've even got the requisite business handshake photos... :)

Well, I was afraid it would go that direction. That trendy look is going to look so dated this time next year.

What's trendy? The site design? The content? I'm not seeing anything particularly unusual, but maybe I'm missing something.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Newbie Question: Nudes
« on: March 06, 2013, 01:40 »
I see, that's the market.  :D

Indeed. I think some images are used in skin care product markets and dermatology, etc, but the images are used otherwise mainly, I think.

I see. That's good! Did you found out where are your those shots used in?
Btw, I see Getty selling price quite high.   ;D

I have some nudes RM and some RF, so the price points are different and also the info about how/where they're used. But I know one rather artsy image was in a European edition of Playboy and another on the cover of a magazine that seems like Maxim or something.

Getty's price points vary, however RM is the most variable and RF changes often.

Ya, I wonder if nude photos sell well.

A couple of my shots at Getty sell regularly and almost exclusively in Europe.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy - Are You Curious? Response?
« on: March 01, 2013, 00:22 »
why not be upfront about this whole process, the secrecy is a real turn off and a bit arrogant.

Oh, part of this is a carry over from the old iStock days of "dont' ask, don't tell" about how to become an inspector, etc. and part of it is the simple fact that they haven't launched yet. I tend to think that word got out a bit earlier than they'd have liked so that's bred more speculation than would've otherwise happened. I think all should just wait until they really launch and see what's what before making decisions and getting all worked up.

The current paradigm at Stocksy is RF, so you wouldn't be able to contribute and be IS exclusive without some sort of wrangling.

That's good to know - I guess I'm out then.  Thanks!

If I'm exclusive to iStockphoto, do I need to drop the exclusivity before apply for Stocksy?

Unless iStock has decided to change the rules without notice (entirely possible...), then exclusives should be fine if they simply create an account with another agency. You could even contribute RM images. Its only when you contribute RF that you'd run into a problem.

i would like to know more about Stocksy. they have given us nothing other than Bruce worship. if i knew more i "might" be interested. as it stands right now this whole Stocksy thing is rather unilateral.

Actually, nobody's pushing Stocksy very much at all - its really the anticipation and speculation in this forum that's feeding that. Given there's nothing more than a splash page and a couple twitter/instagram posts, I'd say they're just gonna let everyone know on March 25 what the deal is.

I just found out that there is a buyer email and  a seller email, I think I signed up for the buyer email twice, lol. I just signed up for seller email

Am I correct that that option is new? I noticed it yesterday but I really don't think it was there before. No idea whether I submitted an email as a buyer or contributor but either way I think its doubtful they'd be interested in my work.

How can you be "way above black diamond IS"? Last time I checked that was the highest ranking possible.

There's a fair number of people, I think who've far exceeded the 200K needed for Black Diamond. I'm pretty sure that's what's meant here.

I got banned for calling Lobo a bully.

Between the comments I had deleted and his responses to others in the past couple days, I can't think of a better or more accurate description.

And it is also important to remember that Getty in turn is owned by the Carlyle Group, a private equity group that will have it's own agenda.  The contributor of content is so far down the chain of command here that they don't even register.

Indeed. I think this is an often overlooked point. The anger is generally directed towards iStock and Getty, but there's another level of bureaucracy above both of those.

Did I miss something? Here, Lobo indicates there's going to be an announcement of sorts about what's going on, but I haven't seen it. Is it hiding somewhere I haven't looked or just forgotten about?

Did Getty allow "troublemakers", especially such public ones, before they acquired Istock?

Getty didn't have any sort of forums until well after Bruce sold to them. I think that whatever badmouthing of Getty that happened prior to those forums (not that anything happens there NOW anyway) took place in the various forums that were in place at the time and in personal blogs, which I'm sure they viewed as inconsequential.

Sean was invaluable asset for iStock and its community but that obviously ment very little for Getty at large. There is a huge void left in iStock community.

I think they haven't considered how many people would LOVE to have him on board - as a contributor or administrator. And as easily as he made some things easy (those scripts) I'm sure he could make life hellish for iStock if he wanted to be vengeful. It'll be interesting to see where this all leads.

Well, I sure didn't see THIS coming.... Guess this is why you see so few Black Diamonds contributing to the forums at iStock and elsewhere. What a loss for iStock, but a huge gain for pretty much anywhere Sean decides to put his work.

The internet is the ultimate power trip, particularly because you almost never encounter the person you are attacking in real life.

AH! Maybe  that's the real reason for the decline in iStockalypses.... They wouldn't want to have to face certain people in real life, I think.

I almost felt like he was threatening us to some degree to watch what we say in here too.

Agreed, which is one of the reasons I suggested not allowing admins here - but clearly I'm in the minority on that point.
