General Stock Discussion / Re: GraphicStock are you Insane?

that's Scott Kelby, whadiya expect? he wants to make money just like a lot of other people. He doesn't want to be left out of the 1%. also, once your photo is in the media be it stock or anything else it's gonna be used by someone for free, thinkaboutit.
or -  dig deep, discover a process, attitude, point of view that is your soul and work it. fff focus fusion follow thru.  otherwise you're on the 21st century assembly line for any vector or straight photographic product.    a rose is a rose is a rose. unless you reveal another lens.  work hard and never give up.  leave the whining and bitching to someone else.

Look at the russian women, they know how to do it.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock exclusivity question
« on: August 08, 2015, 14:24 »
i released my exclusivity from istock then went back after three months, my sales increased slightly when i returned. iStock is a part time income for me so i didn't think the analysis required to change and test other sites etc merited my time spent, so i went back and that was three years ago.  Also the same problems are pretty much fluid in other stock sites.  Very possibly could be worth it if you depend on the income. best of luck!

Print on Demand Forum / Re: 'Featured' on FAA
« on: May 05, 2015, 16:05 »
IMHO FAA is like a chicken coop.  or - another way to put it - a total waste of time unless you're pushing HD on steroids.

6
FAA is robot driven, there is no "support."  I have FAA but there is so much junk on that site it's embarrassing - most of the product is so over the top kitsch but maybe something will sell so i'm giving it a try.  i don't look at it as a destination or as a rep for my stuff just a website that i can refer people to and if they buy all the printing and shipping is done by FAA and i'm not bothered.  i use the watermark, they discourage it but so what, it might - lol - discourage a poacher.

Computer Hardware / Re: Which PC or MAC would you buy "now"?

great discussion - been trying to find out the same info - thanks much!

Fine Art America there you can sell printed versions of your work and you set the price.

be certain to look and see what's selling there before you put any art work on their site.  Also there is something just not right about them, maybe the canned responses to every help question? or when looking at traffic to your site, people from all over the world are looking at your work but all at the same time, same day?  How do you know what they really sold of your work?  you set the price but the mark up is extraordinary.  Tried it for about a month but had such a bad feeling from them i took all down.

where would designers needing stock go if not for ss is etc?

My goodness, what's to complain about?  I made 34 cents yesterday!  LOL    Whoa!!

In three months i'll be able to get a burger at Ken's Broome St Cafe.  Of course by then i'll be too hungry to walk three blocks...  yada  yada  yada

10
good idea - i'll try that, sure not getting any other response!

11
thanks for suggestion, makes sense but it's not allowed.  Lobo says go to contributor relations then locks the thread.

i'm having a lot of difficulty locating a payout from istock to me via paypal.  it's over a week since istock said it was transferred yet it hasn't shown up in my account and paypal claims they didn't get it.  still waiting for istock response (since 9/5).  anyone else have this problem?

13
shocked istock accepted this photo - it's washed out - no detail and terrifically boring.  submitter must have some gratis there - i've sure had much better photos rejected.  and keywords omg i've had a couple rejects mostly conceptual but never nouns - this photo never went through an inspector - but it did    . . .    speechless   oh Yo!

14
Yes, there is no consistency between agency. You will even find incosistencies within agencies as different editors may judge the same image differently. It's not mathematics with a clear answer to every question.
Example - a while back, I had a specific image rejected as property release needed on iS. I posted it here, and while the majority thought it shouldn't need one, some thought it should.
I thought I just gave in and posted it as editorial, but I don't see it in my port, so maybe I just let it go.
Anyway, last night I noticed that another iStocker saw exactly the same photo, from exactly the same spot, and got it into the commercial collection.
shady sue same thing happened to me - so waited awhile then resubmitted - took out name of bldg  but a month or so later went back in & put bldg name in keywords & title -

OMG photos of inspiration - let the naysayers nay nay nay - go finish your isolated apple or that model whose body is so over pinched -  Yo- top drawer designers will love this stuff - quality over quantity.

i got an email - clearly indicated from istock - questions were very good &guess BCG wrote them.  didn't see anything about winning an ipod - wouldn't have taken it seriously if there had been.  the message said it was a survey for all exclusive istock contributors.  anyway i answered it in depth, also cited a particularly rude comment made to me, but no names.

Lobo is a strange creature -  very needy - definitely gets a buzz from putting people down who can only respond at risk of further insults (or expulsion from forums - Putin style lol) -  kinda like a boxing match with only one boxer wearing gloves. - could it be his job at istock is the only place he feels adequate? Obviously management supports his routine and - and he hasn't concerns about karma.  ;)

joined istock to see where it would take me and it's been great learning how to make a technically good photograph but most of my work is nature and raw produce & that stuff doesn't
sell much.  keeps me in art supplies but the last month or so those sales have dwindled to almost nada so giving up the exclusive means nothing.   rather be doing more vector abstracts, designs, drawings etc.  Not interested in being exclusive anywhere.  will keep what i have at istock (with out the exclusive) except for a few and then see what happens elsewhere.  advice is surely appreciated.  was thinking trying shutterstock or fotolia, pond5? what do you think?

lobo emailed me the other day writing " don't make me humiliate you in public " if i went off topic again ?? for what - don't know.  i find the forums so toxic i hardly ever go there -  did make a remark can't remember was o/t it was so tame yada yada. wrote back said for him "not to fret he couldn't humiliate me." i've had enough of istock.   those angry people in the forums can't be all wrong.  when an artist/contributor can't even get an accurate count of how many views an image is getting - it's time to go.  taking back my exclusive.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Image Deactivation Tally for iStockPhoto
« on: February 04, 2013, 14:57 »
xcuse my total lack of business expertise but my question is:
is it true that while i'm exclusive with iStock i can not submit any of my new work to another site ie: shutterstock or who ever?

i try & read the contract but my eyes glaze over and i start snacking . .  lol . . . .

22
Can someone give me a link to the Feb 2 event re istock - sorry - haven't logged in for awhile and am not up to date - seems like something is happening in response to this latest crap re google etc.

also question - how do i cancel my exclusive with istock and what are the consequences for doing so?

i read the istock forums on occasion and contributors have been very unhappy for a long time now (year plus) so i'm rethinking what to do - i do know the company that took over istock, the carlyle group, is a private equity firm whose motto is "buy it, flip it" they're not interested in the company - just their worth.  so if there is some collected response from contributors directed to istock in response to their opportunistic behavior toward their food crop i might like to join up.  best regards

the forum moderators at istock are especially snarky.  been thinking of starting with shutterstock or one of the others because istock is just so unpleasant, you really don't want to ask a question about anything.   they also have a lot of cheer leaders inside the forums bragging about their great sales & how much they're making etc.  I find it amazing how they take & process all those pix yet still want to spend time writing forum comments!
