I uploaded the EPS and JPG versions of my illustrations. It's asking me to enter Title, Description and Keywords. This system does not extract the information (like other stock sites)? Must I enter it manually (or copy and paste from the original files)? I cannot use DeepMeta because my operating system is no longer compatible with it.

Shutterstock.com / Upgrades to Shutterstock email notice
« on: February 22, 2016, 14:11 »
I just received this email and immediately said to myself:

"Well that is nice, but I hope this doesn't mean contributors need to take a pay cut for it!"

Over the next six months, we are investing heavily in upgrading the technology that powers Shutterstocks infrastructure, website, and mobile apps, to deliver improved functionality and a better overall user experience.

This work will soon become noticeable to you through small changes on our site and apps throughout 2016, and the schedule has been designed to minimise any possible disruptions, as we work to address some of the issues you have been seeing and update your user experience.

This is just the beginning of some exciting improvements being made and, as always, please email our support team with any questions and suggestions you have, or if you do seem to be having any issues. We are looking forward to offering you the best possible contributor experience.

We will be updating our forum on a regular basis throughout this period, so please do check there for the most recent updates. For any major upgrades we will be sending out email communications to everyone.

Thank you for being part of the community.

Sincerely,

Paul Brennan
VP, Content Operations

CanStockPhoto.com / Rejecting everything
« on: February 13, 2016, 09:45 »
Any illustrators out here having 100% rejections, even though you have typically had 100% acceptance in the past? Demanding releases from drawings of still life and people that you make up?  :o

Site Related / Anonymity with username
« on: January 18, 2016, 17:04 »
I might have missed something, but it seems like our login/username is now public, as opposed to our forum name. Speaking for myself, this seems like a change in the MSG forum. I prefer the name Striving to show up, but not my login (Author) name. If so, is there a way to go back to the old way?   :-\

I am thinking of joining the Graphic Artist Guild. I'd like to know you are a member and your opinion of them (or another similar group). Maybe if enough stock illustrators join them, we could do some good for the industry.  ???

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Intellectual Property/Release Issue
« on: September 17, 2015, 22:26 »
Have any illustrators with 5,000+ portfolios on Fotolia suddenly been getting mass rejections for their vectors with these completely unhelpful (an irrelevant) rejection notices?:

A model or property release was not attached.
When a photograph, vector or video file includes people or property, you must submit a signed release authorizing the usage of the file for resale.

There is a problem with the model/property release you submitted.
The release doesn't contain a signature, is not in JPEG or PDF format, or was illegible.

Your file contains elements likely protected by patent or intellectual property laws.
You did not provide documentation to show permission to reproduce this subject. If you have obtained permission, please present this documentation by writing a brief description in the comment field.

Maybe we can post questions about when are they going to fix the Facebook connect function (broken for over 3 years now for many contributors).

123RF / 123RF Infographic for Keywords
« on: December 07, 2014, 13:22 »
123RF released a very interesting infographic with monthly trends for KWs. Does anyone think it's worth considering for planning what content we create and submit in general (including what we send to other sites)?

I didn't find a Vivozoom category, so here goes...

I received this email from Vivozoom today ( I haven't uploaded there since 2007 and thought they were out of business)  :o

"I am pleased to announce that we have licensed  the Vivozoom images through 99cimages.com, a new image licensing site targeting the latent consumer market for licensed images.

99cimages is a market place where image owners license their images directly to image users.  The standard license template provides the buyer with a single use, limited print run (just 50,000 compared to the standard 250,000) license for 99c.  99cimages charges a 39c service charge,  Photographers and Illustrators therefore generate 60c per license.

As an early supporter of 99cimages, through being a contributor on Vivozoom, you will receive 100% of this income namely 99c, through your Vivozoom account, for the first 6 months of operation, and thereafter this will revert to 60c.

We expect that this new initiative will expand the market considerably for images by providing an affordable image price through a simple purchase and download process, by providing a real alternative to non-professional image users otherwise tempted towards copyright infringement.

As the owner managers of both 99cimages and Vivozoom, we wanted to share this news with you,  before launch of the service tomorrow.  Please feel free to check out the site 99cimages.com and please let us know if you have particular images you wish not to be licensed through 99cimages.

Our plan for Vivozoom is, in due course, to build on this relationship and provide a complimentary  high value, warranted service alongside 99cimages for the more professional image buyer.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards

Lawrence Gould
CEO Vivozoom "

General Stock Discussion / Google Glass and keywords
« on: April 15, 2014, 09:28 »
I'm working on some cartoons of people wearing Google Glass things. I've found some on IS and SS as Royalty Free with the "Google glass" keyword on both sites. I'm not sure what the best way is to describe and keyword my drawings without violating copyright rules. Any suggestions?

Pixmac / Pixmac closing
« on: February 25, 2014, 17:48 »
As an Illustrator. I liked their submission process. Oh well. I hope the transition is easy.

I received this email from them:

Hello,

As you may have heard, Pixmac recently joined forces with Pond5, a New York-based stock media company representing a variety of media types, including the largest collection of royalty-free video on the web.  Since March 2013 we have been working hand-in-hand with Pond5 to deliver the best quality content to all of our valued customers.

To be able focus on our most important priorities and offer you a wider range of stock media, we will be redirecting the pixmac.com domain to pond5.com as of February 27, 2014.

Theres no need to worry!  All Pixmac images have been moved to Pond5.  You can find them, plus millions of others, here.

In addition, all prepaid credits and invoices are still available.  You can access them by logging in with your current username to pixmac.net, where you will also be able to find extra information how to transition to Pond5.

As always, if you need any help, just let us know at [email protected]!

iStockPhoto.com / iStock now reading metadata!
« on: September 12, 2013, 07:32 »
I'm no fan of iStock's treatment of us, but I wanted to say I submitted some vectors yesterday and found that their interface read the metadata in my JPG versions. I was pleasantly surprised.

Shutterstock.com / Rejected for Potentially Offensive
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:16 »
SS refused these images because they are "potentially offensive images."

So for those that might be offended by theseor think a buyer might be offendedplease help me understand. I think I know what is potentially offensive. But I am curious. Also, I'd like to know if you think they are worthy cartoons for me to submit. FYI, I'm a man of African descent.  8)

http://www.mostphotos.com/4903050/pointing-finger-above-black-man
http://www.mostphotos.com/4917840/man-hanging-himself

My goal of these is not to offend. Rather, to illustrate intolerance, hatred and the stress of many people around the world. From the Dalits of India to African-descended folk struggling for equality in America.

Panthermedia.net / Ultimago-Earn money with free images
« on: February 21, 2013, 11:19 »
Just got this email. Last time I posted something like this with my opinion of it, I got in trouble. So I'll just post what Panthermedia sent me:

after successfully introducing our new pricing model at the end of last year, we are continuing to diversify our portfolio, from free images
to high end royalty free premium imagery. So take part and use all
our possibilities to market your images!
Ultimago: Earning money with free images

You have images that are not good enough for stock agencies, you think? Or old images that have already seen there best times and are hidden on page 1.245 in the 20 mio vast archives? That's a lot of unused potential!

All these images will get a chance or a "second life" on the new and independant platform Ultimago. At Ultimago, users can download images for free - for private and limited commercial use. There are premium or merchandising memberships for extended commercial uses. Ultimago earns money with membership fees, advertising revenues, donations and revenue of distribution partners. This revenue will be equally shared with you, our photographers. For every download, you will get your fair share of 50%.

Besides the additional income, you profit from:

Unused potential: There is a lot of potential hidden on
your hard drive. Also, a lot of images in your stock agency portfolio that is good enough, but faces too much competition
or is just a couple of years old, are still waiting to be turned
into money!
Market yourself: Each customer has to put a backlink to your image and to Ultimago in return for downloading your image
for free. This drives a lot of traffic to your profile on ultimago.
Once they are on your profile, send them to your preferred stock agency!
Upselling: Use your public profile to redirect customers of your topsellers on PantherMedia.
Cross-selling: Images on Ultimago can also be printed
directly on canvas and other material. This way, you can also earn money.
Photographers from PantherMedia have many advantages.
This is how it works:

Sign up with Ultimago as photographer.
In the settings of your account, you can verify yourself as a PantherMedia photographer by using your PantherMedia credentials. This way you dont have to verify via PayPal
or by sending a copy of your ID.
You can access your PantherMedia portfolio directly on the Ultimago upload-page. Import selected images (e.g. no sales,
no clicks) from PM to Ultimago. All images accepted by the PantherMedia inspectors are automatically transferred
from your PM-account to your Ultimago account, if you wish!
Additionally, you can upload new images via FTP
or web-upload. Model and property releases dont have to be uploaded, but need to be provided upon request.
The upload-process is reduced to a minimum and is very fast.
Use that chance and earn money with free images! Ultimago is a joint project of fineartprint and PantherMedia.

Explore Ultimago!
Next challenge: Premium images!

We want to offer our customers the whole world of images. Thats
the reason why we are going to build up an exclusive premium-collection over the next few months. This exclusive collection will stand out with a very high quality and premium prices.
So watch out for our next newsletter.
