General - Top Sites / Child Photography Income / Roth IRA
« on: June 20, 2022, 12:16 »
I recently had a child and I was thinking about having them model for some stock photography images.  I read that you can open a custodial Roth IRA account for your child and can contribute the child's earned income to the retirement account.  Since I'm a sole proprietor I don't have to deduct payroll taxes and as long as they earned less than I believe $12,500K they don't have to file a tax return.

Has anyone done this before?  If so how much do you pay them per photo session?  I don't think I can just pay them $6k for one session to max out their contributions for the year.  Thanks!

Adobe Stock / Diable Adobe Stock Videos
« on: April 08, 2022, 16:24 »
I can't seen to figure it out on my Adobe Stock account.  I just want to disable my videos, without having to delete each one.  Anyone know how to do it?  Thanks

Does anyone have experience with the "footagesearch.com" website?  Most of the content is nature related.

General - Stock Video / Top Video Sites
« on: November 05, 2010, 14:16 »
Trying to see if there any other video sites worth contributing to that I haven't already.  Here is my list:

Pond5, Istock, Shutterstock, Can Stock, Revo

Pond 5 is at the top for me with all the others kind of clumped together as a distant 2nd.  Heard of the following, but don't know if they are worth submitting to:

clipcanvas, always HD

Then there are the bigger sites, like corbis, getty, thought equity - any experience with breaking into those sites?

Thank you

General - Stock Video / Antarctica Video
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:03 »
Just finished collaborating on a video project with footage I shot while in Antarctica earlier this year.  Will be submitting soon my unused footage to the micros and still going through all my stills.  Just wanted to see what other video producers thought of the video.  Turn on your speakers, the soundtrack is very good.

Thank you

General Stock Discussion / Finding a partner
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:39 »
I have a full time job and a tens of thousands of photos sitting on my hard drives for years that I haven't gotten to.  Although I've been a contributor to the micros for 5 years now, the last couple of years I've barely uploaded due to time.

Instead of flat out hiring someone I thought of partnering up with someone I can trust.  I have a friend with photoshop skills and  I could give him batches of images to clean up, keyword and upload to Alamy.  I have a lot of travel shots and want to focus on Alamy right now instead of the micros with him.

Instead of an hourly wage, his payment would be a percentage of the sales of the images that he works on.  He only gets paid if there is a sale.  What percentage of the sale (after Alamy takes their royalty) would you figure to be fair?  I have to make it worth while for him.

General - Stock Video / Video Length
« on: July 24, 2009, 13:07 »
The length of video excepted varies from site to site, with Shutter taking up to a minute and Revo as low as 20 seconds.  I hate to create different version just for different sites.  The max I submit is 30 seconds... does anyone know where the sweet spot is for sales... 15 second, 20 second, 30 second or higher length clips?

Not all clips can be 30 seconds due to the nature of it, but know for instance if 20 second is enough, then I could submit that to all sites without worrying about length...

General Stock Discussion / Canstock Fees
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:40 »
Why is Canstock the only micro that I receive payments from that charge me paypal fees?  Its bad enough that I rarely get payouts, but on top of it I have to pay fees.

General Stock Discussion / Collaboration
« on: January 16, 2009, 12:28 »
I have several friends who shoot photos/video, but dont submit their work to the micros.  Theyd rather collaborate with me to help them sell their media, than do it themselves.

Would it just be better for them to setup their own accounts and not get involved? Or, is there a business solution that makes sense where we can combine our resources and libraries?  I dont know if the accounting gets messy, figuring out who sold what, and money exchanging hands, etc.

I would like to keep our work independent, but still sell it under the same umbrella.
