Alamy.com / Alamy Sale Refund
« on: July 01, 2014, 21:19 »
Alamy has refunded a sale a few times in the past for me. It's almost always the big purchase that gets refunded. I had one refund last month for about $250 from a sale from more than a year ago. They just took money from my account without any explanation!
This is ridiculous!
I always thought that Alamy was more professional than other agencies, but it looks like all agencies are exactly the same.

Dreamstime.com / Microstock Transparency
« on: February 05, 2014, 20:14 »
Hi All,
Last week DT sent me an email to inform me that they "removed" earnings from my account due to reasons that are beyond their control. They were very sorry because they had to refund their customer $9.32.
Possible refund reasons of course are (well known to everybody):
- Accidental download;
- Credit card fraud;
- Duplicate download;
- Incorrect size/format/license purchased;
- License update;
- Performance issues (misspellings in texts, quality);

So I went to see the file that is mentioned and to see when it was downloaded and refunded but nothing is there. This file has never been sold for this amount.
Then of course I ask for more details.
Their first email stated: Due to the high volume of daily transactions, we cannot provide additional clarification on the refund performed. Measures are always taken for the licenses to be withdrawn and images deleted. Any subsequent unlicensed usage is liable to legal action and penalties.

Second email:
"Nice" lady (don't want to point any fingers here) said:
"If the refund was requested immediately after the purchase, the system did not have time to update and the sale did not appear in your earnings. What you now see are previous sales, which are still valid in your account.
Once we issue a refund, the sale is immediately deleted from your account so it is very possible you did not even see this sale.
Hope this clarifies."

I don't think she has a clue how computers work, it must be registered somewhere.

My point here is transparency.
 Microstock in general receives unreciprocated honesty from us, and we as suppliers have to rely on their good (bad) mood. I just feel like if they need some money they simply could send few hundred emails and bingo the money is there. We, as suppliers take everything they serve to us. Transparency in these cases is very important, I want to know what is going on with my files. We don't have any control over what is sold, and how it is sold. We just have to take it or leave it (by deleting our portfolios "if they allow us"). They should have a system where we can see who the buyer is because they know it but...
These are our files and they are just selling them for us. And in most cases I feel like we are not important in this business.

Dreamstime.com / Feeling Negative about Dreamstime
« on: September 08, 2013, 21:32 »
My current earnings at DT are not even 25% of what I made in 2009. All the credits that they sell for now are credits from 2010.  For example, one of my last sold images was (16 credits - 2010) level 5, $7.55, medium-size. I don't understand how they can still sell for credits from 2010. If it's not a sale from credits from 2010, it's a subscription - $0.35.
I've been with DT from September 2006, and I think they are putting us down more and more every year. I don't think I will stay with them for much longer.
How about you?

Admin Edit: changed the title to something more 'professional'

DepositPhotos / Depositphoto, there is some fishy business
« on: May 16, 2013, 21:06 »
Hi all,
I just received an email from Depositphoto stating that they sold one of my images. The issue with this is that I no longer have an account with them. I disabled my account over a year ago (October 2011), and I can't log back in. This microstock business is a true mess.
This leaves me wondering if they are still selling my images without my knowledge or consent.
I tried to search for my images on their site and I found three images in my portfolio. My portfolio exists and it has three images. Back in October 2011 they sent me confirmation email that my account is closed.
So be careful with images on Depositphoto, there is some fishy business.

Has anything similar happened to anyone else?

Sony is the first to have managed to pack a full frame sensor (24MP) into a point and shoot body. The camera is equipped with a fixed 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens.
With a pixel count of 24 million, the RX1 can shoot RAW along with a burst mode of 5 frames per second. It features pretty much all DSLR functionality.
This is exactly the camera I've wanted for years, if only I could switch the lenses too (or 20 mm fixed).
Biggest downfall for me is the price tag at $2800.
I have Nikon equipment and I will wait and see what Nikon and Canon will say about  this revolutionary decision.

General Photography Discussion / "memory card error"
« on: April 25, 2011, 20:25 »
Hi all,
A friend of mine has Canon S90 and just after the long weekend  trip, he came home and lost all the images on his memory card. When he inserts his card in camera or computer it just reads "memory card error".
Does anybody has experience something like this, I guess that Canon S90 uses SD card?
With my cards, CF cards usually come RescuePro Disk. Is there something that he can download or buy to fix this problem?

Thank you

General Stock Discussion / No freebies!
« on: June 15, 2010, 15:40 »
Lately, more and more people are talking about some big changes in the Microstock industry. "It is coming soon, a new Microstock style, giving your images for free?!?"  If this is the case then I am done with Microstock.
No freebies. I don't give my images for free. I live from photography and why would I give it for free. Camera and photo equipment is expensive. I don't get that for free. Who is going to pay my time spent producing free images?
Microstock is big part of my income but if I quit Microstock I will have more (plenty) of time to do some other stuff (as a photographer). Currently, I spend 70% of my time on Microstock productions so if I use that time to advertise myself I think it will pay off.

"Microstock - Microprices. There is no money."  -  That is what I have been told by some of my friends who are photographers in 2005-2006 when I joined Microstock. But I found a way to make some money and after all of this, if agencies want me to give them my images for free, I will quit Microstock and close all of my accounts. No agencies give us anything for free (they make more money from our images then we do) so why should we give them free images. For exposure? If they do that, personally I think it will be the end of Microstock. Are they trying to go back to 2003 and start all over again?

Personally I think this is not going to happen, they can't ask us to give them files for free, they must have something smarter on the way. Right now we need some growth in income or most of the big guys will leave Microstock. If they leave, customers will leave too (those who are after quality). So somebody with something else will come up, maybe RM Microstock.
And also agencies are making big money on this business so why would they screw this all up? I am not worried too much right now, I'm just trying to say that I am not supporting a free-image type Microstock and I am not interested in that type of business at all.

I know some of you commented on this in the other thread but anyway feel free to say few words.

I am wondering what you think and what would you do if this is true. Free images?

Me? I am out!

Dreamstime.com / Is Dreamstime dying?
« on: March 26, 2010, 08:45 »
I remember the same thing happened with another agency (StockXpert). The sales decreased slowly and then they sold the agency at the end.
Last year, especially the last three months, had very slow earnings. I used to make three to four times more with a port of 3000 images, than what I'm making now with a port of 5000 images.
My RPD droped from $1.28 (in 2008) to $0.91 (and I see significant drop last three months)

I was wondering what is your experience like with Dreamstime?

General Photography Discussion / Swimming school photographs
« on: January 20, 2010, 22:57 »
Hi everyone,

I mainly do stock photography and some small events. I want to make an offer to do swimming school photographs of all the kids and groups. My only problem is that I don't know how to price it. It's a small school of only 160 kids. Each student only needs one group photo that is 5x7 and one portrait photo 5x7. Does anyone know how to price this,  or anyone done something similar before? I need to make them an offer within the end of this week.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Nikon / Nikons response to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II
« on: September 24, 2009, 19:53 »
Hi everyone,

Do you think that Nikon will SOON have a strong response to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II? 21.1 MP ??!!?? Is it really necessary?
The D3x is too expensive.
If you could afford both the Nikon D3 and the D700 which would you go for?
I know the D3 is nearly twice the price, but the D700 is a more recent model so which would you buy and why?

Go ahead Nikonians

Hi There
I was wondering what the percentage distribution is between
   "25-A-Day-Downloads- -On-demand-Downloads- -Enhanced-Downloads"
of the monthly earnings of Shutterstock?

Mine are: "62%- -18%- -20%"
