Print on Demand Forum / Weird e-mail from Crated
« on: June 19, 2014, 10:19 »
I got this e-mail from Crated

"Hi there,

I hope you're having a great day!

First off, I want to send a huge "thanks" for the feedback we've received from early Crated community members like you. Your suggestions have already gone a long way towards helping us to create an even better experience.

Today I'm reaching out to get your feedback on an exciting upcoming project.

We want to host a local art event in YOUR city, featuring YOUR art. If you're interested in partnering with Crated, please complete the short survey below.

Yes, I'm interested. Start survey now.

Thanks, from the Alyssa and the Crated team. "

Has anyone else gotten an e-mail like this....the weird thing about it is that I've never gotten an e-mail saying I've been "crated". Also the part about YOUR city....I live in a small town and I freelance...I don't have a studio per say and can't quite see an art show here. Nobody would even show up.

Just wanted to know if those of you on ABC are getting very many sales. Mine seems to have slowed down. We haven't had any discussion about ABC on here for awhile.

Many of us have questions what works and what doesn't and how you define this. We've seen changes to the web site and if you could come here and explain the process to us we would appreciate it.

Many have question to how many images need to be submitted...if there needs to be a portfolio link..and what exactly you are looking for.

4
Any one have this problem? I keep hitting the submit button and still get the same error message. It takes me back to the edit page and doesn't show me what the error is. It doesn't matter rather I try to submit one image or all 24, it says the same thing. It did the same thing the other day and I'd save my work and sign out and sign in and all the saved descriptions and keywords would be gone. I did that three times before it finally went through having to redo description and keywords. I'm scared to death to leave the page for fear it will be all gone again. I am getting very frustrated.

Have any of you Zazzlers looked at their stores today. The new layout went public today. Horrible. I have business cards and they are broke down into categories by occupation so it's easy to find the occupational business card. They only show 12 of the categories. Only occupations A thru 1 B. In the side bar they only show 7 of them and to see them all you have to click "see more". I looked to see if you could customize so all categories could show and it's not there. There is very little customization properties to do with the store now. Oh and the header image is gone and background color is white. Of course it won't be a problem to get the header back but not option to change colors or layout anymore. You need to check out your stores. I feel sorry for those who paid to get their pages customized.

I've got photos on thinkstock from my  "supposed to be closed account" at iStock. I can't pull them up with my user name or real name. The only way I can pull them up is by their item number on my "supposed to be closed account" on iStock. I can't log in at all.

They are all on Photos.com also...same story...can't log in

I was just doing a tineye search on some of the pictures I've sold on Shutterstock. I found matches to my deleted port on iStock!!! They are even still being offered for sale. My whole port is still on there. I dropped them over a year ago!! I couldn't log in as donding...they changed it to dondingCLOSED. I even have a balance of over $100 there. I went through and deleted my whole port one by one. This really PO's me. You might want to check to see if they still have you on there as "your user name CLOSED" If I had not never did a tineye check, I wouldn't have even known they owed me money or that they still had my port up!!!

Our problems aren't the only problems with Google Drive. This happened back in June of 2012. Don't know if it's ever been settled. Thought you might be interested in this;

General Macrostock / Getty Selling Images On Fine Art America
« on: January 15, 2013, 11:07 »
In case no one knows what Fine Art America is, it is basically a place you can put your portfolio to sell as prints. You pay $30.00 a year and you keep all the proceeds from the sale. I noticed from a thread on there that there was a photographer who found his photo on Fine Art America being sold there under Getty Images. Getty has their own port on there.

http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/gettyimages.htm

This discussion was about 6 months ago on Flicker. Here is the flicker link about the discussion.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/olympusesystem/discuss/72157630814751472/

The name of the photographer is under the view, but when you click on the view there is no link back to their portfolio on Getty, it is sold directly from Fine Art America. Can Getty sale prints from a competing site that is not owned by them?

This may be old news on here, but in case it isn't just thought I'd let you know.

Computer Hardware / Monitor Calibration hardware
« on: August 01, 2011, 14:47 »
Need help in buying a monitor calibrator. There are a lot out there even by the same manufactures.
What kind do you use?
I was looking at the Spider 3 as well as the i1 system, but don't know if there are better ones out there that don't break the bank.
Which would you recommend?

General Photography Discussion / F-Stop and Shutterspeeds
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:30 »
I found this on the internet and thought it was rather interesting especially for those of you who don't understand how different f-stops and shutterspeeds can produce the same exposure. A lot of photographers go by what the camera says and don't realize that there are combinations that work just as well.

Of course you need to have the auto ISO off and set to where you want it.

http://www.uscoles.com/exposures.pdf

Here's a website that explains the Zone system to help with proper exposure. Again it is helpful if you are having problems with understanding exposure and how it effects the final picture.

I recently got a Nikon D7000. I also have Photoshop CS3, which I use for editing, but it can't read the Nef files from the D7000 so have to convert them to DNG to edit in PS3. I don't have Lightroom so really am not familiar with it. I don't want to pay the price for PS5. My understanding is Lightroom will open the NEF files without having to convert..correct me if I'm wrong.

So my question is what do you use most with editing...Photoshop or Lightroom?

« on: May 26, 2011, 10:32 »

I've gotta shot a wedding in September for ...of course...a family member and they were wanting me to upload the photos to shutterfly.com. I know nothing about this place and some of the reviews I've read said it takes a long time to upload to. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I was doing some research and came across Mpix.com and they look like they do some quality printing. Any one know of them?

Any advice here would be helpful.

Nikon / Nikon D7000
« on: May 04, 2011, 17:40 »
Anyone got their hands on the Nikon D7000 yet? I recently got the D90 and really don't care for it and am thinking of going for the D7000. If you've got it...what do you think about it. The reviews I've read are very good and most of the sites are sold out and back ordered..

Risamay posted this link into another thread but I thought it needed it's own thread.

Very interesting information in there.

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) has released a memo that all but advises Getty contributors to quit the agency and find other ways to distribute their stock photographs if they can. American Photographic Artists (APA), meanwhile, has issued a veiled threat of legal action against the stock photo agency.

Nikon / Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 verus the 24-70f/2.8 on Nikon D90
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:48 »
I've been searching high and low to see a comparison of the 28-70 f/2.8 older lens to the new 24-70 f/2.8 lens on a Nikon D90. Most of the comparisons are on FX camera's. With the internal focus on the D90...would the 28-70 work just as well as the 24-70? I've read the sharpness is about the same, but like I said these comparisons are on FX cameras. Any one had any experience with this? I've found some used 28-70's and they are about 500.00 or 600.00 cheaper than the 24-70's. Is the speed of both lens about the same since the D90 has the internal focus?

iStockPhoto.com / Wikipedia definition of Getty
« on: April 10, 2011, 17:26 »
Has anyone read the definition of Getty under Wikipedia?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getty_Images#cite_note-6

This is a quote from their page
"In September 2010, Getty Images IStockphoto Brand announced plans to cut payments to contributors by as much as 30% starting in 2011, while claiming that it furthered the interest of those same contributors. The royalty paid to non-exclusive contributors becomes as low as 15%[5] on the 1st day of 2011. Getty's motivation was greeted with skepticism by the iStockphoto community. Thousands of messages of complaint from contributors were posted on the iStock forum site within a few hours of the announcement,[6] "But money isnt going to be what makes you all happy." said CEO Thompson in his reply to the complaining contributors.[7]"

They even have the link to the post on iStock where that is said. I thought that was kinda interesting. It looks like that is going to be a "But money isnt going to be what makes you all happy." trademarked saying..lol

General Photography Discussion / Save as Tiff or PSP?
« on: January 02, 2011, 12:45 »
I've seen a lot of people mention they save their files as TIFF then save to jpg. I always open my raw do modifications then either save as PSP or to jpg. Do you save to Tiff before you do any editing then save to jpg? What's the difference?

Alamy.com / Alamy's US office closed because of bad weather
« on: December 27, 2010, 12:43 »
I just checked Alamy home page and it has this posted

"Due to severe weather conditions in New York, the US office is closed on Monday December 27th. Please email your requests to [email protected] and we will come back to you as soon as we can. "

That blizzard must really be bad to keep New York shut down.
