General Stock Discussion / Question about large format printing
« on: August 02, 2019, 15:25 »
A client wants to use an image of mine as a large wall mural approx 4' x 8' and have asked for an EPS file.

To save as an EPS file in photoshop, which encoding method would be best to use? they offer a variety from ASCII85 to jpeg.
would jpg maximum quality be good, or would another encoding be better?

sorry if its a newb type question- i dont know anything about large format printing.

Just received a notice from 500px that they are rolling out distribution sales via various partners
They mentioned that any sales that occur via partners will result in contributers getting the guaranteed minimum amount that they would have gotten through direct 500px sales

They are also making this optional opt in / out for contributers.

Wondering if this is a good time to start ramping uploads.
What you all think?

Here is a new blog I wrote about printing and framing those special photos you have - while trying to strike a balance between quality and pricing.  I based my blog on my personal experience, and I hope you can find some useful information here.

Photography Equipment / My First Blog
« on: November 21, 2013, 21:10 »
Here is my first ever blog on my symbiosite - its a review on camera sling strap.

I tried not to be too wordy, while providing enough detail to be informative.

What do you think?

All these threads on Syms growth and early success makes me want to try and do it myself - the only thing holding me back is my own lack of knowledge and confidence, you see, I am totally intimidated by anything to do with computer programming, seo (yikes), and all that kind of stuff.

However, I am motivated to at least give it a try.

Question:  Does anyone use HostGator for there website? Is this good service or is there a better one?

Any direction is extremely appreciated.

Alamy.com / anyone selling video through A?
« on: May 19, 2013, 16:04 »
Is it worthwhile to upload video to sell through Alamy?

What would you say both about the process of uploading and about sales

thx

StockFresh / Stopfresh
« on: April 19, 2013, 21:23 »
My application has been there since February, sent 2 e-mails inquiring whats going on, and no response

This site is a joke run by jokers - not very professional IMO compared to other sites in replying to contributor inquiries

Yaymicro / how long for sales to show up?
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:19 »
I have a small port on yay and only check every few months to see if i had any sales
the last sales recorded for me is in July 2012 - but there are a number of images that show downloads below the thumbnail of the images.
Is there a lag between the downloads and having them show up as sales on your 'sales stats' page? How long is it, because I have no idea when these pics were downloaded?

Well, I have always been under the impression that shooting in Adobe color space in camera is the 'best' - it collects the most information and therefore its better than sRGB

However, talking to a pro who shoots always sRGB in camera, because he says it saves a ton of time in post processing because with Adobe you always have to adjust the dark/light sliders therefore taking way more time in post...

Just wondering what you all have set in-camera setting - Adobe or sRGB and why you choose that?
I just wonder if the time saved is worth the trade off of having less information in this regard.

Thanks for your inputs

General Stock Discussion / lisafx saw your pics in Yukon..
« on: September 18, 2012, 19:55 »
I was in Carcross Yukon 2 weeks ago, with my wife at the local visitaion center to get our passports stamped (as a souvenier of our visit) when I saw a flyer displayed on their information board promoting travel to Alaska with a shot of an older couple I thought looked familiar..  it is one of the pics you have displayed on your website homepage .

I pointed it out to my wife and said 'that couple looks familiar.."  lol

just thought I'd share that, since I was in the boonies, and to see how/where any one of our photos may appear seems pretty cool...

well, I thought it was cool.. :P

Just wondering if most of you put up the same images straight across the board on all sites your on to maximize your sales - or do you hold back certain images from some sites for a reason i.e. their commissions are poor, their sales are low, rejection rates, etc. as a way of 'punishing them' or just beacause its not worth your time...

just curious about this...

This might seem like a weird question but it is legitimate...

Once your ms portfolio is up it has earning power as long as your images are available to clients.. so what happens in the case of someone who dies, and their portfolio remains generating income - does their beneficiaries continue to receive the royalties? for how long? is their a legal proceedure to go through to ensure this?

Has anyone looked into this or have some insight?

It is an unusual question, but really I think something we should all consider at some point from a practical viewpoint, esp for you big time earners ...

thanks

New Sites - General / AYCS - Now offering EL for images
« on: April 25, 2012, 17:20 »
Just got an email from AYCS that their offering extended licences as an option for images - the wording puts no limit on the amount of prints, copies, etc that can be made under the EL

and the artist can set their EL cost to 5X, 8X, or 13X the price for a large image...

I like the fact their branching out in options for clients and ways to make money for artists, but I hate the fa t that there's no cap on the production run limit for using an image

What say you?
