Here's something of a spit in the ocean ;
okay okay, I know it's utterly ridiculous a thought.
Still,  I am a big Disney fan, and believe in Peter Pan, although I did not work with Disney like sjlocke. But seriously, ... let's say you have 5 wishes from the magic genie.. that say you can replace the Big 6 with the rest of the list, including newbies.

Which site would you like to see make the Big 6. In your order of merit..
1,2,3,4,5,and 6.
You can give your reasons if you like.

What's the worse that can happen? Maybe your vote will inspire the CEOs of the list to try make it happen for us. And we'll all live happily ever after...
instead of hitting the bottle  ;)

Here are some photos from the concert. As you all know from my other thread (old beatles not photographer friendly), we can only take the shot from outside the perimeter. Also, even if I were to get a Press pass, I would have to pay for the tickets, and I am not a Paul fan (sorry! I would pay 360 bucks for Andrea Bocelli but Paul not quite. )  Still as you can see many thought he was worth it, and almost every one from Halifax, Bedford, Dartmouth, and area were there. There were just as many people outside the concert area then inside, perharps more, as The Commons is an enormous area and we're not even counting the other side of it which is a hill where the Citadel is.  The best seats in the house were of course the apartment block (back of the image). I bet some guys could have made some hot videos from his window.

Anyway, the story is available on my earlier thread . Here I just want to post some images I took. It was dark and I used my new baby  Pentax 50-200 zoom
set at ISO 1600 with enhanced dynamics.
Very excessive crop, this is as large as it gets, from a 14.6 MP RAW image.
not large enough even for editorial with Bigstock.
Still, the quality is not that great but it's good to go for the show.

Paul started with "Drive My Car" from the Beatles Revolver
Then followed it with "Jet" from Wings.

not sure what happened after that, by that time I was too far to hear the concert (I was walking home enroute 5km from the Commons)
Halifax was alive more than ever , everyone downtown was there. Except me, ha!ha! and other Andrea Bocelli fans, ha!ha!

Maritimers sure know how to party , for sure !
Moi, I 've had too many years of Montreal Jazz Fest, and already attended the world's largest outdoor party 7 days and 6 nights (Bahia Carnaval). So it's
not really a party for me anymore. Done it all, so I prefer to relax with my ale and hot wings instead. lol

Enjoy !

The big EVENT OF THE CENTURY  this weekend begins with Old Beatle Paul playing a super show . I was thinking that perharps some stock photographers who is his fan (I am not, I was a Searchers fan not Beatles; John 's fan, not Paul's),would take this momentus occassion as a photo-op .
But as I was chewing on junk food in a super take away worldwide joint (no names mentioned, they really don't need any more PR ) , I can't help but the headline story with a sidenote : "WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME"...
PROFESSIONAL VIDEO AND PHOTO EQUIPMENT. or words to the effect.

The tickets are a whopping $350+- ringside to the lowest 150+- standing only bring your own chairs...

I just spent an equal amount for the "lowest bring your own chair ticket price" on the new Pentax 50-200 OEM DA zoom. My pal at Henry's showed me the newer moisture resistant similar FL version priced a little less than the ringside ticket price.  Hell on wheels ! If I wanted to dish out $350 for the show, I'd rather splash it on another Pentax lense, or put half of it to a Sigma super wide aspherical lense.

I guess Paulie is a pop icon and he can do what he wants. But I can't help to think that in Brazil during the carnival and other shows at SP, RDJ, Bahia,etc..
the tickets to the biggest stars of Musica Axe and Tropalismo costs far far less,
and after the show the fans are even given the op to meet the stars to take photos and get their autograph. No big stink about videoing the show, etc.

Quite a diff , isn't it?

I wonder if any pop or rock fans have come across any other shows that do this thing on cameras and video cameras. It's not very photography friendly.
I know many indie group are quite photo friendly. But I have no first hand testament on that as I am not a concert fan.

Input anyone? Pros and Cons welcome. If you adore Paulie, go ahead and scream back at me..
I encourage open discussion all the time.

This is my homecity stock site. Yes, I joined it last of all simply because I found out they are based in Halifax, NS.
I only started to get a tiny cash  1.35 or something like that lately, with Canada Day, and a recent sale with an image that sold twice already with Fotolia. Having started with Can stock the same time as Fotolia, Fotolia has earned me 16x more in the same time, with an equal portfolio size. Fotolia has also caught up with BigStock and overtook it in earning for me even though BigStock was the first site I joined way over 1 and 1/2 years ago. It is also closing in on DT and StockXpert which were my best performers, but suddenly went off into some kind of stupor.
I am very optimistic with Fotolia, maybe the Euro buyers like my style. I like to think I can feel the same optimism with CanStock. They don't push me any more than anyone else even though I am from here like them. But I do like their style... except for the lack of sales.

Enough said, what do you all think of Canstock . I am sure many here are long time contributors with them already. Should I keep up with my uploads to them?

hokey, I was the one who posted the old thread on how cool and awesome StockXpert was, when I first got my feet wet in microstock. They were the best site for me, and I  made no secret about it. Great reviewers, fast approval time, constructive helpful hints on rejected and resubmit.  Then like some bad dream it became like a ghost town, and nobody knew what the heck was going on there. According to many, no response from even the moderators or people in the know.
I know this sounds like a frigging scratch vinyl, or some bad rap musicbox, but after what seemed to be a revival of hope with my best months in feb, march, and a bit of april, StockXpert sort of forgot about me all over again.
Does anyone have anything good to say about where we are heading with this site?
Are you still uploading to them? Did you get any response from Support?
Other than Getty's invitation to move our stuff to IS.

Let me know, anything goes... no holds barred...
get dirty, I don't care, just give me the goods...
thanks.

Adobe Stock / Ext lic, you sell many? what makes them ?
« on: July 02, 2009, 16:39 »
As a newbie to Fotolia, earlier this year, I was very encouraged when my earning doubled with one single dl . It was on my fourth month and with a really tiny portfolio . I got an Ext Lic. and my commission was something like 6 dollars.
For a small portfolio and a new contributor it was nice to see my commission total
double in one day.
My question to all you here is twofold:
i) in your longer time with Fotolia and others, do you sell many Ext Lic?
ii) do you think certain images have more potential of getting Ext Lic
than others?
iii) if you say yes to (ii), would you say it pays off if we just try to make images that
do better in getting Ext Lic.

(iii) might sound naive to some of you experts, so bear with me. I am here to look for ideas to improve my portfolio which I think personally has improved a lot for someone who is only a bit over one year old in micro stock. and just half year with fotolia.

Cheers in advance for your input.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090622/ap_on_re_us/us_kodachrome_s_demise

the news is sad though inevitable. i had many great images during my formative years as a freelance photographer with this film. i am surprise it lasted this long , way after i had retired my Nikon Fs , Olympus OM2, Gossen Luna, Sekonic,etc..

even more surprised is how long this old friend lasted till today. i guess in many countries they must still be using film format even after digital became worth a changeover.

i would have loved to continue with film format, 35mm to 4by5 , if i had the money as there is something organic about them.
the digital format is fast, cheap, and no doubt safer for your lungs ; no more darkroom to breath in the nasty chemicals, etc. and of course, the ability to edit on the run.

but, i remember kodachrome, even way before paul simon dedicated a song to it.
"kodachrome, gives us the nice bright colours..."

farewell old friend.

Today I find my second image reaching downloads of five. This , if I am not mistaken, means it goes up one level.
What does this mean ? Any advantage to this?

Do any of you find that it helps to get a higher color rating , level increase?
Like to know your opinion on this, and how to take advantage of the ratings?
What does it mean to you?

Cheers.

P.S.
If you have a Dreamstime account, I made a blog on the same subject. You can answer there or here , wherever you prefer.
