I will be traveling to Colorado August 2-10 and have some extra time so thought it might be nice to throw a little photographic party in my old home town 9I lived in the Ft. Collins / Loveland area for 20+ years)
So I have booked Studio 121 in Loveland for the full day August 7th and we will do an intensive Crash Course on Studio and Location Lighting. At $45 per participant this workshop is going to be the bargain of the year because all I really need to do is make enough to pay for the studio and cover part of my travel costs and I am going to be a happy guy.

So here is the full deal

I will set this up as a Meetup at http://www.meetup.com/vegasvisionlights which is the site I run all my workshops from so you will need to join the group but membership is free.

Date: August 7, 2009 8:00AM - 4:00PM

Location: Studio 121 in Loveland

Cost $45 per person with a 12 person limit
I will book 3 local TFP models and an MUA for this workshop. Participants will be responsible for obtaining their own model releases and ensuring that they follow through on their TFP arrangments with these models. WHile I know times are tough as always I would encourage you to tip models and MUA's who you feel provided you with excellent service.

I will be traveling with enough studio lighting, strobes, soft boxes, pocket wizards etc. that in conjunction with the gear that is alreay in the studio we will be able to run 3 sets at any one time.

I will provide reflectors for use outdoors but suggest you also bring your speed lights for fill techniques.

We will cover the following lighting techniques

In Studio
1. High Key In Camera Isolation

2. Mid Key - The Clamshell

3. Low Key - The Beauty Dish and single light artistic beauty

We will work with soft boxes, reflectors, grids and beauty dishes. We will discuss various forms of light modification and the hows and whys of using each technique. This will be a hands on workshop you will spend far more time doing then you will sitting in a chair listening. I will convey lecture material but in a loose learn by doing atmosphere rather then a stiff classroom setting.

Outdoors we will work on the following.

1. Over powering the sun - learning how to balance strobe lighting with natural ambient light to obtain clean crisp images with good color and contrast from foreground to background while using the strobe to also separate the model from the background creating depth and dimension.
2. Shooting at mid day - yea it is a challenge but it can be done and we will show you how to make the best of horrible conditions.

3. Reflectors and board to board lighting meaning I will teach you to use multiple reflectors to move and soften light even in situations where you would not believe there was enough light to shoot.

All in all participants in this workshop will receive the ultimate value for their dollar.

Hope to see you there

Microstock Seminar - Phoenix AZ.
Oct. 4-5, 2009

Kerry Allen and his great online photography community Photography Schoolhouse have invited me to join them in Phoenix to teach a 2 day Microstock Workshop. As many of you know it was due to my success in the Microstock Markets that I was able to fund and build Vegas Vision Studios. While competition has increased and markets continue to change and adapt everyday it is still possible to add a strong supplemental income by shooting specifically for microstock.

If you are not familiar with The Photography Schoolhouse I recommend that you pay the site a visit. Membership is free and once you join you will find yourself part of a dynamic and active community of photographers of all skill levels from all over the country networking and sharing tips, techniques and critiques in all facets of this business we call photography. In addition to a very active online forum the site offers free photoshop actions, templates and more as well as offering FREE LIVE WEBINARS on different subjects each week.

Here is what Kerry Allen of PSH has to say about this workshop: "I have to admit, I was a skeptic at first. But Bobby has shown me how photographers all over are making money with Stock and Microstock Photography."

Join us in Phoenix Oct. 4-5 as Vegas Vision Studio's Bobby Deal teams up with The Photography Schoolhouse to present a 2 day workshop introducing you to what may well be the most explosive marketplaces photography has ever seen.

So bring your cameras and lots of flash cards, PSH will provide a full card of models (male and female) as well as studio space and lighting to equip 3 stages for two full days of interactive study and shooting. Each participant will be given a full commercial model release from every model allowing you to start your microstock portfolio with the images you capture at this event. This workshop is an absolute fast track to the skill set you need to begin exploiting this rapidly expanding market. Bobby Deal was an early adopter of Microstock and has been through all the growing pains this industry has gone through and can offer you experienced based tactics to help ensure that you can avoid the costly mistakes he made early on in his career when shooting for microstock. He will cover not only the shooting and lighting instruction, but how to deal with model releases, property releases, logos, styles, key wording, and marketing. This is an intensive hands on information packed workshop with a balanced mix of classroom information and shooting.

This workshop will provide you with all the tools you need to put you on the road to success in microstock and give you the skill set you need to start making money with your camera.

Regularly priced at $499 we are offering an Early Bird registration special for only $449. (Book now, Early Bird ends Aug. 1/09)

Or you may Reserve your space now with a deposit of only $250.

Don't wait to long on this one though as there are only 15 spots in the Seminar and it is already over half full following the webinar Bobby recently participated in for PSH members.

WWMII will kick off at 7:00 PM on Friday August 21, 2009 with a meet and greet cocktail party at the 6,000+ sq ft. 4 story luxury loft home that will serve as the location for this special event.  Starting at 9:00 AM Saturday and Sunday, attendees will meet for coffee and bagels followed by short interactive lecture sessions with both Billy/Bobby while the models are in makeup. Catered Lunches will be provided Saturday and Sunday and are included in the cost of registration.

At 10:30 we will break up into pairs to start shooting our fashion, glamour and nude photo sessions with professional models. These are not to be your typical workshop shooting sessions with lights already set and metered for you. While this is an intermediate class instruction will be tailored to meet the individual needs of each attendee regardless of their prior experience levels.

The locations to shoot in this home are amazing and include a 3 story high great room featuring north facing windows with elevated shooting access from the 3rd floor Master Suite, a roof top hot tub and deck with panoramic views of the strip and or mountains in every direction. You can also shoot the grotto style back yard from this elevated position. The lower level features a custom pool table and spacious ultra bar and lounge setting with walk out access to the backyard.

Experienced fashion/glamour models will be available, some of whom have shot for Playboy and or other national and international publications. We will maintain a model to photographer ratio of 1:2 or better throughout the workshop. Models will provide attendees with a full commercial release with the exception of restricting the use of nudes on pay or adult porn sites. While models and makeup artists are compensated for their time at the workshop we do ask that you provide them with a handful of photos and show them the same consideration that you would show any service industry professional and offer them a tip based on performance at the end of the workshop.

This is an incredible experience to watch, learn, and shoot with the pros. Attendees will learn the secrets of posing models, special lighting techniques, and other valuable and practical methods focusing on improving your skills as a fashion/glamour photographer.

Learn the secrets, the tricks and the techniques of photographing high fashion and glamour models that will set the mood and help you to develop a unique and personal style that allows your work to stand out in the crowd! Vegas Vision Studios offers weekly studio lighting workshops. Each Wednesday night from 6:00 - 9:00 PM VVS hosts an instructional hands on lighting workshop that is focused on one technique. All workshops are lead by working professionals and professional models. If you have ever wanted to learn studio lighting then this is the Meetup for you.

Workshops are very hands on, you learn by doing with an instructor by your side. Ever attendee receives quality one on one studio time with 2 models each night. These are not shoot put or gang shoots. Professional set etiquette is practiced and there is no shooting over another photographers should during these events.

Our attendees learn the skills needed to build working confidence and gain valuable real world studio experience allowing them to take those first crucial steps into starting their own commercial photography business. We don't simply set up some lights and tell you what settings to shoot at. We teach you how to design and shape the lights, discuss options for each style, learn how to meter and determine your settings and ratios and maybe most importantly we approach each session as if we were doing a commercial client shoot and look at the markets that the style can service.

General Stock Discussion / Round 2 Has Begun
« on: August 08, 2008, 00:58 »
Hi All, as you may remember last month I asked for your help by asking you to

PLEASE VOTE FOR STACEY
In THE 944 Magazine Cover Model Contest
http://www.944.com/covers/vote/?ID=8471

Well the bad news is that even with all your help in the end she lost last month by just a couple of votes.

The good news is this is a new month and a new contest and you can VOTE AGAIN

She is once again firmly in the lead and with your help should be able to withstand any last minute push from the competition this month.

If you did not vote last month you will have to register to vote but it only requires an email address and 944 is not spamming those who register.

If you don't get a confirmation email after registering just log in on a fresh browser page and then go to the voting link. The only vote that counts is the little THUMBS UP ICON directly above the comment box so be sure you click on that.

Once you have voted feel free to also leave a comment or to rate the cover (it is my photo)

Your help here is greatly appreciated and I am more then happy to do all I can to help any of you out in any contests you may be competing in now of in the future to return the favor of your support.

Thanks,
Bobby

General Stock Discussion / Tightening A Few Screws
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:26 »
Seems someone has a screw loose around here and can't tell a PIMPING THREAD from a TRUE PROMOTION so I thought I would offer to tighten up that loose screw and help define PIMPING THREAD all at the same time.

So here you go FotoKmyst just for you I give you

Lyndsay (a monthly winner of the 944 Magazine] Cover Contest has gathered her tool kit and is ready to perform a little preventative maintenance for you and help tighten those loose screws and maybe help pitch a tent or two along the way

Oh and BTW this model is Great to work with. She has a ton of experience and is capable of working for extended shooting sessions with minimal direction. An ability that only comes with experience and to top it off if you can believe it she IS NOT DEAF
