General Stock Discussion / Stupid Question?
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:29 »
I feel stupid for just now asking this question 8 years into stock photography but for those contributors who have been into it longer can you please answer this question.

Should I bother putting my images on Bigstock since Shutterstock owns them and I already have my images on Shutterstock? My fear was that if I added my images to Bigstock then my sales at Shutterstock would go down as buyers find my same photos at the other site. Is this a legitimate concern or am I just missing out on sales at Bigstock?

Thanks!

New Sites - General / Stockphoto.com?
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:11 »
Is anyone here on stockphoto.com? If so what are your thoughts about them and their payout structure?

I was looking on Google under the Search for "Stock Photos" and saw that after Shutterstock and iStock, StockPhoto.com was the third site listed that was not a free stock photo site.

Also what's the deal with stockphotosecrets.com as they were on the first page as well.

Has anyone heard of the Shutterstock Contributor Expert Program? If so are you a part of it and is it worth it?

General Stock Discussion / Dreamstime Glitch
« on: November 09, 2017, 01:52 »
Has anyone else notice a glitch in Dreamstime once you have uploaded your photos and are in the commercial categorization page, sometimes the page will glitch and automatically check the "Sell The Rights" box and the "Use Recommended Price Box"? This is a problem if you don't notice this glitch take place and don't plan to sell the rights!

General Photography Discussion / Pricing a Product Shoot?
« on: August 28, 2017, 22:06 »
I am in talks with a start up clothing line that needs product shot, 52 photos in all. Any advice on pricing out a bid? What would you charge to shoot 26 items with two shots each?

Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / Self Promoting Your Work?
« on: August 10, 2017, 16:38 »
So I'm just wondering who really buys stock photos? As a contributor to the various stock sites you never get to see who is really buying your photos. If you are going to market your work on your own what are some of the main buys our there? Graphic designers, Media Companies, Web Designers, Marketers, Bloggers?

In order to self promote you need to know who is buying photos in order to put together keyword advertisement.

Anyone have an idea as to what groups buy stock photos on a regular basis and what kind of general keywords might be relevant to put together a ad on google etc?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / SS Extra Release?
« on: June 13, 2017, 11:55 »
I was contacted by SS asking for me to complete a form to license my work to a customer, why would they need some extra form when its already royalty free? Here is the email I was sent and I am skeptical of its legitimacy! Could be a fishing scam?

"I hope this note finds you well.

Our client is interested in licensing your work (image id: -----------) , but requires a completed form, including your signature, on the attached form for their records before they can proceed.

Can you please kindly complete and return the attached form? Please enter your name, city/state and date and sign it at the bottom.

Please let me know if you have any questions! Otherwise, please sign and send back to me at your earliest convenience.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,"

So they already have all my personal info and the images are already Royalty Free! Has anyone ever received one of these, is it legit?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / SS Price Structure?
« on: March 26, 2017, 21:53 »
I've never bought from SS before and I never fully understand their pricing since I don't buy from them.
Under Professional Pricing plan it says

750 images for $199 a month if you sign up for the year plan.
1. Is that 750 Large size images for $199 a month or 750 web size images? Or a combination?
2 If they sign up for the yearly price of $199 month are they locked into a year contract or can they cancel?
3. It also says no daily down load limits, so is that no limits until they reach 750 images for the month?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / Login Problems and Earnings not Showing?

Shutterstock.com / Accepted Images Not in Gallery
« on: January 13, 2017, 16:45 »
I noticed that my newest images that were accepted don't show up in the my SS Gallery, I've never really checked before in the past. Is it typical for images to be accepted and not show in the gallery for several days later? Couldn't find them under a normal search on Shutter Stock in the new section either.

Thanks!

So I created an image of a Lotto Ticket in Photoshop so real looking that it was rejected for Intellectual Property! What is the point in creating in Photoshop if your creations are only going to get rejected for being to real looking? My Lotto Ticket was accepted at SS, Alamy, 123rf and Dreamstime no problem. I even marked it as an Illustration when I submitted it.

How can I get past a reviewer who does not take the time to realize its not real?

Maybe someone from Fotolia or Adobe Stock on here will look at my case?

Adobe Stock / Adobe Stock Free Section?
« on: January 05, 2017, 13:21 »
I now Upload using Adobe Stock instead of Fotolia since they are linked, my concern is that when you upload with Fotolia often times the "add photos to free section if not accepted" box is already checked, so if you forget to uncheck it your photos are going to be given away for free. On Adobe Stock I have not seen that box but since Adobe Stock is linked with Fotolia and since Fotolia has that free box checked on Auto, does that mean my photos are given away for free if not accepted when uploading through Adobe Stock?

Shutterstock.com / Shutter Stock Keywording?
« on: January 05, 2017, 12:44 »
Just wondering when keywording on Shutter Stock if you need to put the most relevant keywords first like on Adobe Stock? When SS pulls my keywords they are just thrown in there at random so I was not sure if it really mattered or not?

General Stock Discussion / File Saving?
« on: December 16, 2016, 12:51 »
Just wondering how others save their files. Lets say you photographed a tin can. Would you save your file for uploading to the micro sites as:

Tin Can.jpg
or
tin_can.jpg

I was taught to save as tin_can.jpg

Does it even matter which way you save your file for upload?

General Stock Discussion / Keymasters Program Dreamstime?
« on: October 25, 2016, 18:53 »
Dreamstime has a Keymasters Program that says it will increase your sales by 140%. For only .60 cents per image. Has anyone here used this program and seen their sales go up by 140%?

General Stock Discussion / Monitor Color?
« on: September 08, 2016, 02:37 »
Just wondering what others have their monitors set to. For those who have a iMac are you using the iMac, Adobe RGB 1998, sRGB or some other setting for your Color Setting?

My Camera is set to sRGB, for the longest time my monitor would not match my Camera Display when Tethered Shooting. When I checked my color display it was on the Mac setting so I changed it to sRGB and now it matches my camera display, although I am shooting in raw and I believe that the camera display shows the image in jpeg so there should be some difference between the Camera display and the monitor?

Thanks,

General Stock Discussion / Pexel & Pixabay
« on: August 24, 2016, 17:01 »
How do contributors to these sites Pexel & Pixabay make money? I can tell that the sites themselves are making money from ads and donations but it seems as though the photographers are just giving their stuff away!

Newbie Discussion / Photoshop Now letting Me Edit Money Photos?
« on: August 17, 2016, 18:29 »
From my last shoot I have several photos that I am working on that have money involved. Typically Photoshop will not let you edit them now days, how ever I just edited 10 photos and every time photoshop did not stop me, which is great because I didn't have to use GIMP to get the job done.

Did Photoshop reverse their policy?

I am curious to know everyones thoughts as to who is the largest purchaser of stock photos? Media Companies,  Web Designers or Individual Graphic Designers. When I look at Media Company Websites I can find Stock Images but when I look at some Individual Web Designer Sites and Graphic Artists I don't see very many if any as their work is more specialized to local small businesses who want work that reflects their own products or business. So who then is driving stock photography in terms of photo consumption or sales?

Thanks!

Shutterstock.com / Shutter Stock Sales Drop
« on: June 28, 2016, 21:59 »
So I am going to lay it all out since I am experiencing a huge decline in sales. For the last three years I have been making same amount every month on ShutterStock. I hit the last earning tier at the end of year one. Once I made it to the last earning tier I hit a Wall or Ceiling. No matter how many photos I uploaded at that point till the present my earnings did not increase, so for two years I have more than doubled my portfolio but have seen no increase in earnings. In fact for the last several months it was starting to decline slowly but last month and this month I have seen over a third of my earnings drop.

I did not submit as many photos the last few months and I am wondering if that is part of the problem? I am feeling discouraged to take any more photos as it seems pointless to take a ton of photos only to have sales decline.

It would be easy to say that maybe I am taking photos that are not sellers but my new photos sell just like my photos when I first started out and made it to the last earning tier, so it seems like maybe the older photos are just falling off into the abyss with only the most successful ones hanging on.

Any thoughts on this?

Much appreciated!

Shutterstock.com / Is Shutter Stock Down Anywhere?
« on: June 13, 2016, 14:44 »
Just wondering if SS is down anywhere today as sales are less than half of my normal numbers?

General Stock Discussion / Can Stock Total Drop in Sales
« on: May 24, 2016, 14:11 »
About a year ago I decided to upload to Can Stock and saw a pretty good return despite they are a low tier site. These last two months sales have taken a dive more than half in sales, anyone else seen this happen? Anyhow no more uploading to a site that does not perform!

Envato / Unusual Numbers
« on: May 24, 2016, 14:07 »
So I tried putting a sample of my photos on Envato of Photodune. Here are my stats

Sales earnings this month (May), after associated author fees, & before taxes:
$3.24

Your balance:
$1.50

Total value of your sales, before taxes:
$11.00
based on list price

So my total value for my sales is $11  however I am only getting $1.50, what happened to the $3.24?

So I uploaded 90 images and have a portfolio of 2300. If I was to upload my entire portfolio at this rate of earning I could expect about $38.33 a month. NO THANK YOU!

Also It says I had 4 sales but only reports 3

Funny Numbers All Around. I will be deleting my account soon.
