DepositPhotos / $0.09 commission for On Demand sales
« on: May 22, 2018, 16:18 »
As from the beginning of April this year I started getting sales paying me $0.09 each.
I just made an enquiry and was told these are via Partner sites and was given the option to withdraw from this market. Has anyone else been getting these sales figures?

General Stock Discussion / Workflow and File Naming Advice
« on: April 21, 2015, 07:43 »
Would anybody be prepared to share and advice on a good system for cataloguing final finished Jpegs after they have been uploaded to agencies?

My original RAW files and works in progress are accessed and catalogued in Lightroom.
Once my files have been processed and exported, they go to a ready for upload folder, usually labelled by month/year and probably subject/shoot name.

However, after these files have been sent out to the agencies, is there a best practice method for storing / cataloguing these finished files?

Im thinking maybe in the future, I might want all files that are agency ready to all be in one big folder? Then say, if a new agency comes along, I can easily just throw the whole folder at them!

This would obviously require that all file names are totally unique (mine are not at present they probably should be!) and I was thinking whether I should update original file names with a date suffix for original upload / published date?

And would this 'date published' info be of any relevance or importance in the future?

Trying to sort my life out (again) any help much appreciated.

Getty may have made small images really expensive, but on the other hand, they are also giving them away for free!

Isn't this new model designed to push web use images towards their embedded image platform - for free.

In turn, these are then used as advertising for print resolution sales at a higher price?

That's what it looks like to me anyway.

5 / Keyword Refining
« on: February 28, 2014, 12:16 »
My titles, descriptions and keywords have all been pre-loaded earlier in exif.

Is there any point in refining the Keywords in DeepMeta .. i.e ticking the 'yellow stripe' sub-catergories and numbering the keywords in order of priority before final upload.

This is the bit that takes so much time !!!

Worth it or not?

General - Top Sites / Keywording with DeepMeta
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:08 »
Still testing the waters in here - I won't be holding my breath.

Once you've done all the sub-category keywording thing in DeepMeta and added a MR ... anyway of rolling this over to the next image or applying to a batch of similar shots?

I must be missing something.

7 / Switching License Type
« on: February 03, 2014, 09:52 »
If you upload a file to Alamy as RM to begin with, can you switch it to RF at a later date if it hasn't sold?

If so, how?

Looks like you have to delete the file and start again?

General Stock Discussion / Descriptions, Titles, Keywords

For words already used in Title and Description, is it still necessary to include these in the Keywords as well?
Does this vary from agency to agency?

9 / Adding MR to existing upload
« on: January 05, 2014, 15:06 »
I've just noticed a few images in my Dreamstime port that don't have a MR attached.
(Not sure how this happened, maybe my fault at upload, I don't know).
Anybody know how I can attach one?
When you go into Edit I can't see any option to add a release.

Puzzling also, that the images are for sale as RF, but without a release?

General Stock Discussion / Model Release Confusion
« on: December 02, 2013, 10:18 »
A couple of years ago I created my Model Release template.
I think I probably took the text/format etc from iStock and/or maybe from Yuris website (I think they were the same).

This template did not include any specific shoot date or description information.
It also didnt include the Models date of birth.

I have used this MR ever since and it has never been queried or declined by any of the agencies I have been uploading to (SS, FT, DT, BS, CS + others).

After much moral/ethical dilemma and soul searching; financial pressures have forced me into finally giving up my resistance and Ive decided to give iStockphoto a go.

However, with my first upload the reviewers are telling me that the model release is missing that above information (dates and description etc)

Was this a change in policy at some point?
I can see that the current iStock MR template does contains this information now, but Im fairly certain it did not a couple of years ago.

Can I add this information to my existing and already signed models releases?

Site Related / Tapatalk Broke?
« on: November 21, 2013, 16:05 »

Anybody else having problems accessing Microstock Group with Tapatalk on their iphone.

I've been using this App (not sure which version it was) for a while now and it's always been working great.

Yesterday I updated the App (now V 2.3.3) . The App seems to be running OK, but it won't let me into

It is possible that I may have had a problem with access first and then I updated. Sounds silly, but I actually can't remember!
Vaguely, I remember having a problem with access, then getting distracted and doing some updates, then can't/still get access.

iphone 4s still running ios 5.1.1

Any ideas?

Symbiostock - Hosting / 1and1 ?
« on: July 11, 2013, 06:56 »
I already have a hosting package with 1and1 ..... I get the impression they're not great for Symbiostock .... but are they completely out of the question?

Would like to get started with a Symbiostock site, but only have a small portfolio and don't really want to incur additional costs if possible.

Many Thanks

If you decide to close your account with an agency, can you request/demand a payout - even if you haven't reached minimum target?

The amount of unclaimed royalty must be quite extraordinary I would imagine .... people that open accounts, upload, get bored and forget all about it .... people that die and leave no details for next of kin ....

I should imagine that many agencies maintain quite a healthy turnover simply from unclaimed royalties.

Print on Demand Forum / FAA - How to get noticed?
« on: June 21, 2013, 05:54 »
I have a small set of images that I think could do really well if discovered by the right buyers in a place like Fine Art America.

Excitedly, I opened an account and put in all the work to get my page up and running -  finally I had it all sorted and I reckon my page looked pretty good.

The images are basically a set of arty slightly abstract creations deriving from flowers and plants .... so I put them under the Floral category.

I then left the site for a few days (3 days I think) - then went back to the site (didn't login) and started searching through Floral/Recent Uploads, click, click, click, click ..... I don't know how many pages I went through, at least 15,  until I finally gave up, still not having found my work. So much new uploads in just a few days!!!

The only way I can actually find my work was to look up under my name.

Now the images have been up for a few weeks and they have only had one view (I think that was probably me).

So this seems completely useless - me thinks.

I left all the keywording very generic because the images just look good for what they are - for me it's not about which particular plant they are etc, so I didn't say 'rose' 'tulip' etc.

Anything I can do to get my work found and seen?

Can a teenager sign as the witness?

18 / Menus are NOT in English!
« on: April 20, 2013, 06:07 »
Yikes - I was on the Canstock site, everything was fine, but then I seem to have clicked on something and now all the menus have changed into another language.

Anyone know how to revert back to English ???

I've looked all over and even tried a computer re-start but it's still not in English.

General Stock Discussion / Alphabetical Keywords
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:50 »
Novice newbie here ....

I'm Keywording in Adobe Lightroom and keywords are exported in Alphabetical order - is that sufficient and standard practice?

Would there be any benefit to ordering keywords in terms of relevance/importance or is that just nonsense?

I know that Fotolia gives you the option to re-order the keywords, but that is seriously laborious and time consuming!

Many thanks

20 / After SUBMIT button
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:40 »

Have I got this right please .....

After you hit the SUBMIT button ....

the image just completely disappears from everywhere, until at some point in the future when it reappears in again in your 'online files' (after approval).

Pond5 / Can't Find My Portfolio
« on: March 28, 2013, 16:26 »
I find this site really confusing to navigate and now I've completely lost my portfolio!!!

I was looking at it about 20 minutes ago, now I can't find it again - tried nearly all the buttons - where's it gone???

The only images I can see are the ones pending - which have been there for about two weeks - how long does it take?

Anybody make any money here?

Phew, this business is exhausting!!!

General Stock Discussion / Model Release Query
« on: March 28, 2013, 04:05 »

Is there a list anywhere of which agencies require a unique Model Release for each and every shoot with the same model versus which agencies will accept one generic release per model?

Also, does this depend on whether the Release itself is 'generic' or specific to a shoot?

And lastly, is any of this different for Minor Models?

Many thanks in advance

Approximately, what do you think your current annual RPI is?

If Im not mistaken, even somebody as prolific as Yuri Arcus is only claiming an annual RPI of about $5 these days.

So how does that work?

Yuri pays, expensive model fees, stylists, makeup artists, location fees, travel costs, props, retouchers, keyworders, uploaders, etc etc and more.

After a days shoot, he has maybe what 50 unique images to sell?
(or more?)

Based on 50

50 images at $5 RPI = $250/year

x 5 year life = $1250

This is surely a massive financial loss!
Or is my Math all wrong?
Wheres the profit?

I can just about understand that if you keep production cost to zero (dont pay models, blag locations, borrow props etc) and still produce first class images, then possibly/maybe I can see a modest living to be made. However, and Im genuinely intrigued, how can the big boys (and girls) spend all that money on production?
