Shutterstock.com / Climbing levels - Earnings
« on: January 16, 2024, 12:41 »
I honestly dont understand how ss calculates earnings.
Each year I climb the ladder of earnings and see the earnings schedule which reads level 1 - 15%, level 2 - 20%,  level 3 - 25% and so on.
I dont remember off the top of my head but Im pretty sure in years past Ive gotten to level 5.  But throughout the course of the whole year I continue to see .10 images earnings. Why?

General - Top Sites / Least Favorite Site to Upload to?
« on: December 17, 2019, 17:47 »
I upload to SS, DT, Deposit, Alamy, IS, Adobe.
I seriously hate the upload process for IS and Alamy.  They are the most time consuming.
What are everyone else's thoughts?

General - Top Sites / Istock Confusion
« on: September 13, 2019, 08:41 »
Hi, I have no idea whats going on.  I always use deepmeta for uploading. I when prompted in deepmeta I clarify the keywords that come up for additional clarification.
Today I noticed in ESP that my reviewed/accepted files still show those keywords in red  because it doesn't recognize the word and is asking for clarification!  This is on hundreds of files that have been uploaded for months!
I investigated further by looking for these images in my istock portfolio. those keywords do not show.
Additionally, when I view my portfolio it doesn't appear that all my accepted images display.  For instance, I have 3 images of New York University that was accepted several weeks ago.  When I look at my portfolio in date accepted order, only one of my New York University Images displays.
Can someone help me.
Is Deepmeta a bad option for uploading?  is it best to upload directly on ESP?  If i upload on ESP can I copy/paste for similar images in a batch?
Im so upset.  This is driving me crazy.
thanks!

« on: October 26, 2018, 05:58 »

General Stock Discussion / Sites that have a pulse??
« on: August 16, 2018, 12:24 »
im a longtime contributor at
Shutterstock, dreamstime, deposit, fotolia, istock/getty, canstock, 123rf, alma

and like many of us long time contributors I've seen the fall of microstock compared to years ago.  DT, Depoits and Canstock barely produce pocket change for me these days.  Shutterstock crashed but I still have many old photos that sell regularly enough to make decent money.
I did a google search of 'stock images' and was surprised to see DT doesn't even come up on the search.  I do see many newer sites that I don't contribute to -
Pexels, Upsplash, Canva.  wondering if these new sites are producing anything exciting.
and i do mean exciting...lol

« on: March 29, 2018, 07:36 »
I currently submit to SS, Getty/IS, Fotolia, Alamy, Deposit, CanStock, DT, Pond5 and 123RF
I curious is anyone has any success submitting to any of these agencies using mobile phone images and mobile apps?

iStockPhoto.com / Editorial with People
« on: March 22, 2018, 19:28 »
Ive always submitted NYC street scenes with people and cars as editorial.  now suddenly they're getting rejected for having recognizable vehicles and people without a release.  is there a change in policy? i don't get it.

Dreamstime.com / Images with no downloads
« on: March 06, 2018, 17:01 »
Ive been a contributor since 2010 with about 4400 images in my portfolio.  I always had a positive experience here with a reasonable amount of success.  My sales over the past year have dropped off considerably and I'm thinking perhaps I need to do some portfolio spring cleaning by deleting older images with no downloads.  Im talking about a considerable amount of dead wood - maybe even reducing my portfolio by 20% and keeping only images that are a few years old and images that are older but have a least 1 download.  Has anyone here done this? Was it helpful to getting more portfolio visibility?  Or is this a bad idea?

General Stock Discussion / Image use question
« on: January 15, 2018, 18:58 »
Im embarrassed to admit i don't know the answer to this question.  I found one of my images on amazon.  apparently its being sold as a photography backdrop.  i have my images on all the major micro stock sites for many years and I've run across various images on websites and in print in travel brochures.  but I'm questioning the right for my image to be used to be resold like this backdrop.  is that even legal?

iStockPhoto.com / DeepMeta V3 Question
« on: May 08, 2017, 19:19 »
I have a question for folks who use the copy/paste for uploading similar images using deepmeta.
Have you noticed that the keywords that have been refined on the first file aren't carried over with their 'refines' to the file you're pasting in? wow...this is really bothersome. i must have uploaded dozens upon dozens of images that haven't had their refined keywords applied. I just assumed the copy paste worked like it used to before the transition.

iStockPhoto.com / ??? keywords
« on: February 12, 2017, 14:37 »
i never paid much attention but today I'm on a mission and I'm searching for my images on the IS/getty site.  I'm finding tons of weird stuff.
for instance, a search of 'madison square garden' produces this:

http://www.istockphoto.com/photos/madison-square-garden?excludenudity=true&page=1&phrase=madison%20square%20garden&sort=newest
is it possible that so many people either intentionally or unintentially used the keyword 'madison square garden' for their dog and vegetable gardens?
is there no quality control?

iStockPhoto.com / Deepmeta V3 Users

I uploaded yesterday using the new V3.  Today I'm getting an error that it can't find file/user/desktop.  anyone else experiencing this?

iStockPhoto.com / stricter reviews?
« on: February 08, 2017, 07:48 »
I'm noticing more rejections the last month.  i just had a batch rejected because the reviewer wants more information on the location..meanwhile i have quite a few images from this location that have been previously been accepted months ago. same keywords, same caption.  not complaining, just an observation. was wondering if anyone else has noticed this as well.

iStockPhoto.com / Partner Program Earnings
« on: February 03, 2017, 07:56 »
the new ESP forum is awful to try to get information from. this unification is confusing hell.
can someone simply tell me where and when i will see my earnings from partner program royalties AND will these earnings be available on the ESP once its fully functional?
thanks sorry if this is redundant and has already been asked.

« on: January 27, 2017, 12:35 »

Shutterstock.com / Rejections??
« on: January 20, 2017, 07:10 »
I've been a contributor for many years.  And have suffered through the standard ridiculous rejections like most of us.  However lately everything I submit gets accepted. And I've been uploading like crazy. Interestingly around the same time as this new lienancy (about a month) my sales have dropped by around 40% lol. Has anyone else noticed a shift in the acceptance rate?

iStockPhoto.com / confused by unification
« on: January 15, 2017, 08:34 »
I've been a non exclusive member at IS for many years.  my stock income as been just sort of my 'fun' extra money so i never kept up with how royalties are configured or focused much on the financial aspect.  the last half of 2016 my sales here were incredibly good.  i read the news about the big changes taking place but honestly it's all been to much information for me to sort through.  I can see my sales on deepmeta and they are currently only in the double digits..typically by now they are well up into the triple digits.  id say down by 70%.  I'm looking at the stats page and don't see any Partner Program income.  So forgive me for being dumb but is the  partner program still in the picture? and if so when can I expect to see those earnings.  is this 70% loss the new norm?
as I've said i read the unification announcements..and still don't understand it.
can someone just tell me the simplified version for what us non-exclusives can expect and not expect.  thanks!

Shutterstock.com / down the toilet
« on: January 11, 2017, 19:33 »
i have a portfolio of 3700 images and consistent revenue for the last 3 years.  In December my sales dropped to a low that I haven't seen in 4 years..down by 30%.  I chalked it up to holiday season but now 11 days into January I see no improvement, in fact, I'm its sunk even further.  My daily sales are about 50% down from my average daily sales for the last several years.  Has something changed in the algorithm or am i just having bad luck?

CanStockPhoto.com / payout receipt?

iStockPhoto.com / Upload Method?
« on: July 03, 2016, 12:17 »
Curious what upload method you all use to submit to IS.  I use DeepMeta.  I think the only other method in via their website.  I find their upload process the most time consuming compared to the other agencies.  their keyword 'sub-selection'  is so annoying.  I wonder if its even necessary.  often times none of the sub-selections apply or i can't decide if they apply.  am i the only one that has this problem?
