General Stock Discussion / Interesting Observation
« on: September 12, 2008, 15:17 »
When I remember to do it, I usually check out the "pictures of the week" on msnbc.com - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4999736/

I try to remember to check out the credits to see who shot the image and what agency is represented.  There are always a lot of AP, Reuters and Getty images.  What I find interesting is that MSNBC is a partnership between NBC and Microsoft.  Bill Gates owns Corbis or so I thought.  If that's the case, why don't I ever see Corbis images on this weekly feature?

Site Related / Subscribe to thread option?

Is there any option here that I've overlooked where I can subscribe to specific threads and get email notification when there's activity (similar to Shutterstock)? I often forget which threads I've replied to and then forget to go back and follow the thread for further replies.

General Stock Discussion / Wedding Photography Resources
« on: September 10, 2008, 17:21 »
What are some good (free) resources on the web specifically geared toward wedding photography?  I found the digitalweddingforum.com site, but you have to pay for the "good" content.  I'm not willing to do that just yet.  I've been toying with the idea of shooting weddings, but I'm not committed yet.  I want to learn more about it before I make a decision.

I have a couple of books, but I'm looking for web resources like forums/blogs with continually fresh content.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia sales - good or bad for you?
« on: August 29, 2008, 10:34 »
In many of the FT threads I've read where some people do very well on Fotolia and others do very poorly.  I'm in the latter category.  So I got to wondering what types of images do well and what types do not.  If everyone is willing to share, I think it would be helpful to know some stats for those who do well and for those who do not.  Again, I have never done well ($89 in about 18 months).

I have 233 images online which is about 33-50% lower than SS, IS, and DT because of my horrible (just above 50%) acceptance rate on FT.  Most of my images fall into the categories of nature, travel and miscellaneus things like objects isolated on white.  So apparently these are not the types of images FT thinks their buyers want. Is FT a site where they primarily want people in business situations?  Something else?

What I'm really trying to determine is whether or not to continue with FT.  If they don't want anything I enjoy shooting, it's just not worth it to me.  But maybe there's something they need that I'm missing and would still enjoy shooting.

So let's hear from both those who do well and those who do not.

Site Related / MSG avatar

Are there any specific size limitations or file types for avatars for this site?  I've searched, but I can't find anything.  I'm trying to upload an avatar, but so far I've been unsuccessful.

Software - General / Nikon Capture
« on: August 01, 2008, 10:36 »
I would like to be able to shoot tethered with my Nikon D200.  From what I've read it seems like I need Nikon Capture to be able to do this.  Does anyone know of an alternative to Nikon Capture?  I hate the idea of spending $100 or more just for the ability to shoot tethered.

General Stock Discussion / Fine art sales
« on: July 08, 2008, 10:57 »
This question is for those of you who sell fine art prints and shoot with digital.  Do you sell your prints in the standard sizes of 8x10, 11x14, etc. or do you sell them at digital sizes like 10x15?  (Are digital sizes even standard or does that depend on whether or not you have a full frame sensor?)

I ask because when I shoot, I like to fill the frame with my subject.  I never think about possibly needing to crop to 8x10.  But now I'm wondering if I'm limiting myself when it comes to selling prints.
