General Photography Discussion / Reshoots
« on: May 28, 2014, 15:26 »
I shoot for commercial and industrial clients; my job is to create a high quality very appealing images. Sometimes it comes off on the first shooting, sometime it take several shoots to satisfy the client. On very difficult shoots it may be several shoots to determine the right lighting, timing, and angle.

How many re-shoots have you done to achieve the desired results? One job big I had 5 re-shoots, it was a complex shoot involving 24 different location with very  unique viewpoints.

Today SS stats show:
5,502,534 royalty-free stock photos
34,510 new stock photos added this week
134,908 photographers

The trend is lower image acceptance rate at most of the Big 6.
Reviewers want Macro quality and Agencies are paying Micro prices. Micro are still accepting new contributors. SS images count is at 5.5 million, DT image count is at 4.5 million. More startup of small microstock companies.

What is the future for our business? What is the limit? Will we see a limit on contributors?

Please comment, I am interested in your thoughts!

Yaymicro / 30 Days and No Hay
« on: July 01, 2008, 12:14 »
It has been 30 days and still no hay at Yay.

Hey did you know I upload those images to sell downloads! Send me some customers with a big pocket full of euros. Norway please let's make some hay so I may lay down with my honey and count some money.

I just wish they would invite the buyers.

Shutterstock.com / Download Stat Page
« on: March 27, 2008, 07:31 »
SS download stat page has [per photo sale.] I have never had a per photo sale. Has onyone ever had an individual sale?

I know SS is subscription just questioning the stat page and purpose of the column.  123 had the option for buyer to purchase individual images or subscription. Do you thing this is a SS possibilty in the future?

Dreamstime.com / Are Micro Becoming Little Macro?
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:43 »
Interesting discussion going on at Dreamstime!
A photographer asked why their downloads were declining and the thread was removed. After complaining the thread was reposted.

Achilles answered with this message.
[Quoted Message:
I am losing database exposure, I am far from being a pro and my skills are lower and lower compared to the average Dreamstime photographer nowadays, etc. My downloads/image continue to decrease as better content is submitted by other members. The quality of the database keeps on growing. Rjmiz depicted very well the need to shoot better and more in one of his recent threads. It's not the agency that has to pick up the sales for you, it is your portfolio that must pick up the buyers. And there is no better bribe than great stock in huge amounts ;)

One year or two ago you needed over 1,000 images to enter the Top 10 contributors, right now you need 5,000 images. It's all about competition and not about less downloads at database level. We break new records each day and far from seeing any sign of stagnation but these are factors an amateur photographer should be aware of. ]

« on: December 12, 2007, 13:18 »
I recently join Bigstock and am uploading stock images. The slow approval process is a drag.

I am interested to know how sales are and if it worth my time? I have about fifty image up at this time and more pending.
