One of my friends sent me the link - with some of my pics being sold on this website.
Maybe this is a legit site (subsidiary of one of the "biggies") - but I never heard about them.
Since they claim to have over 6 million pics - chances are (if they are a rip-off artists, that is, which is yet to be confirmed/denied)that some of you may have "contributed" your pics there.

Have a look and - what do you think ?

123RF / Funny things happening at 123RF site mail
« on: May 23, 2009, 03:53 »
Could someone please contact 123RF and describe the following problem:

"I have opened the Site Mail since it indicated 3 new messages. There were none in the Inbox, but in the Sent folder there is more than 1500 almost identical messages entitled "123RF Matters " or similiar. Could you please have a look at this, since I am sure I haven't been spamming any of the 123RF members. Maybe this is a bug, or maybe I do not understand something, but I would appreciate someone having a quick look."

I tried to contact 123RF, but the website insists that the security code is incorrect - which is BS. At any case, I can't contact them directly.

My member name at 123RF is "leszek".

Regards
Les Scholz

Correction: this was not over 1500 messages, but over 1500 pages with messages. The problem seems to be rectified now, after logging in again, although I could see some changes in the contents of the Sent folder after every click on the "Sent" tab. Looks like a bug.

I don't know how it looks like for everyone, but in my case the last 3 months looked like this:

Jupiter/Photos  vs StockXpert

November 2008:  35% vs 65%
December 2008:  60% vs 40%
January 2009:     90% vs 10%

In other words: all of a sudden, vast majority of images sells through Jupiter/Photos as a $0.30 subsription, with overall volume (number of sold images) remaining pretty much the same. Of course, the total income goes down.

Adobe Stock / Somebody help please...
« on: September 03, 2008, 17:04 »
It happened before, it is happening again.

Basically - Mozilla Firefox can't see fotolia on the net.
How did this happen ?
I use SpySweeper, which pics up some cookies as low-risk threats. Normally I do not clean these cookies, but yesterday I did.

As a result - when trying to get Fotolia website, all I get is a message "Done" at the bottom of a blank page. It happened in the past every time I cleaned out cookies (among them the Fotolia cookie).
I used to have an original E0mail from Fotolia with a link - which worked, and after using this link I could use Mozilla, where Fotolia is bookmarked.

Nothing works now, however.
I restored the cookies from Quarantine, disabled SpySweeper on Startup - no cigar.

The options are:
1) Get rid of Mozilla
2) Get rid of SpySweeper
3) Get rid of Fotolia
4) What ?

If anybody can give me some tips regarding option 4) - this would make my bloody day  >:(

Sometimes some of the rejections leave me scratching my head.

The example below has been rejected by some of the microstock sites.

Historically - the use of logos and trademarks (belonging to other people) was a no-no (no problem with that). Then - photographing subject with any logos/trademarks has become a no-no (quite debatable, since they have no problem with including their logos on any piece of clothing which I may buy - which in itself presents an interesting legal problem: does that mean that I can't photograph MY shirt for which I paid monies ?).

Then - the whole bunch of buildings/objects/sites to which all of a sudden someone claimed "copyright", although the law in most cases does not protest architectural appearance of a building.

Then - the example like the one below: what is wrong with it - except that one may say "it looks like Lego blocks" - so what ? No logo etc. is present in the picture - but somene seems to have a problem with it...

Does that mean that soon we will have to ask manufacturers of our clothing to give us "product release" before we take photo of any person (unless that person is naked - which presents quite different set of problems) ?

iStockPhoto.com / I think it will be Goodbye to IStock...
« on: July 22, 2008, 17:27 »
Took couple of attempts to get accepted. After that - initially all was going OK with about 60% acceptance rate - then, all of a sudden everything is "overfiltered" - probably all four or five last submissions.
I am getting tired of this - it is not worth wasting my time there (although I am getting sales). I never know what may get accepted at IStock - and I think that Iam not going to try any longer. On any other site I managed to get a reasonable grasp of acceptance criteria quite quickly - and have no problems. It's a pity, but IStock just does not work for me. As usual, YMMV.

iStockPhoto.com / For the life of me...
« on: June 27, 2008, 08:03 »
...I still can't figure out what this is that Istock wants. Over the last couple of weeks I submitted about 100 pics, got accepted about 50%. Some of the rejected ones are "not stock material" - funny, they sell OK elsewhere, and with one I went back to Scout - the image has over 140 downloads in the last 6 weeks, so I just couldn't stand it.

Other pics are "overfilterd" and of course with "artifacts". Funny again - some of them have been shot on white background, with minimum postprocessing, and were submitted in original size (no cropping), with maximum JPEG quality. How can one produce artifacts in this way - escapes me. Most of the pics "can resubmitt", but I do not bother, since there isn't much I can do with the pics to make them better (or acceptable at least). Vast majority of the rejected pics sell happily on other sites.

OK, end of rant. It is just demoralizing...

Dreamstime.com / How do the assignments at Dreamstime work ?
« on: June 27, 2008, 07:57 »
I am asking, because yesterday I submitted 10 and got accepted 5. I selected the option "Elevate image to level 4" (whatever that means). What does the other option "Sell rights for $25" mean ? Does Dreamstime buy the accepted pics ? Or what ?

iStockPhoto.com / How do I use FTP at IStock ?
« on: June 07, 2008, 04:57 »
Do I need to apply for FTP access ? If not - then how can I do it ? Could someone please explain what do I need to do ?
Currently I use Filezilla for most of my uploads.

iStockPhoto.com / Uploads disappearing...
« on: May 17, 2008, 01:20 »
...at IStock.
One week ago I uploaded 15 images. My uploader says 15 images uploaded OK, IS says received 15 images. All show up in the "Active/Pending Images" queue. All is OK with the world.

This week, I uploaded anpther 15 pics. The uploader says: 15 images uploaded successfully. IS says: 15 images uploaded. But...in the "Active/Pending images" I only see 11 new images. Also, Total Uploads count shows the number of all images I uploaded, minus the "disappeared" pics. So - are they gone for good ?

Did this happen to anyone else ?  I do not mind uploading these pics again - but what bugs me, is that my upload limit is used up. If this continues, I will be using the upload limit just to reload the images which should be on the IS server, except that...they disappear  >:(

On the positive note, though, the first 3 approved images are online and I got the very first download - $0.75  ;D

iStockPhoto.com / OK, so I am dumb...
« on: May 16, 2008, 06:43 »
...but could someone (pretty please) explain to me what this is:

On Istock site, when you go to "Upload" and then "Total uploads" - you are taken to  a page with all your images. The stats have number of columns: Image - Edit etc. The third column is the icon of a camera. What does it actually describe ?
The entry in that column is: "5.0 (1)".

(Forgot to add: finally I got accepted at Istock  ;D )

Shutterstock.com / Strange - number of downloads
« on: May 07, 2008, 01:10 »
What is the chance of getting identical number of downloads on SS for 5 consecutive days ?  It happened to me and did strike me as strange, so I did the numbers. I took all my downloads for the last 3 months, performed some statistical analysis - and the result is: 0.72E-6. Less than 1 in a milion...

Go figure.
And no - it is not 0 downloads  ;D

Adobe Stock / Problems with logging in...
« on: May 05, 2008, 07:45 »
Anyone else ? The site rejects my perfectly valid username and password, only to accept it after 3 or 4 attempts. But sometimes the browser just says "Done" - but nothing shows up. Fotolia started playing up couple of days ago - and is getting worse. Sometimes I can't even get the site. Any ideas ?

I have noticed that after one of my antivirus/antispy programs cleans everything (including cookies), I can't log in directly as a member: first I need to go to www.fotolia.com (I presume that the cookie is sent while connecting), and then I can log in using http://www.fotolia.com/Member/Contents

But now even the www.fotolia.com seems to work very randomly.

It really pisses me off.

I use Mozilla, have Java script and cookies enabled etc. No problems whatsoever with any of the other sites (and many others) - it is just Fotolia  ???

General Stock Discussion / How do the sites perform...
« on: April 11, 2008, 06:41 »
In my case - it looks like this (income, per day, normalized to 1):

SS                     1
StockXpert                   0.33
Mostphotos        0.27
Dreamstime        0.17
Fotolia              0.11
123RF               0.09
BigStock           0.07

I do not even mention Crestock or Canstock - since I deleted my accounts there.

It looks like most of the big 6 are not performing very well in comparison to SS...

Adobe Stock / How to request a payment ?
« on: April 10, 2008, 03:41 »
The FAQ on Fotolia website state : "To convert credits into cash go to the My Credits page of your Fotolia account and click on the Convert credits into cash button."

Fine - but there is no such button there. There are two "clickable" options there - "Buy credits" and "Transfer credits", none of which serves the purpose.

So, the question is: how do I request a payment ? Is this information (FAQ) incorrect ? Do I need to actually click the "My Conversions" tab and select "Convertible credits" ?

Shutterstock.com / First payout at SS
« on: March 28, 2008, 03:48 »
after 5.5 weeks ;D

18
Basically, I can't see any images, including my own. Just a general image icon comes up - and that's it. Anyone experiencing similiar difficulty ? No problem with other sites.

19
As above. Say you uploaded 1000 images to SS. What percentage of them has at least one sale ?

StockXpert.com / Upload process at Stockxpert
« on: March 17, 2008, 17:58 »
Recently I had some trouble - basically, I waited almost 3 weeks for review. Upon contacting Stockxpert, the images have been reviewed, and I also received an E-mail advising me to upload to "/images" directory on FTP server - which I am doing already.

The problem might have been that after uploading, adding categories and clicking "Submit" - I moved the images to "Home" folder.

The way I see it it goes like this:
1) Upload via FTP to "/images" directory
2) Search for a briefcase which contains the uploaded images (this is not "/images" directory, which already causes confusion)
3) Edit images by adding categories and click "Submit" (although status does not change, it is still "pending" which is confusing again)
4) Leave the images in a briefcase ? Move them somewhere ? If moved, will the images "disappear" from the reviewers radar ?

Anyone else finds this process very confusing ?
And what is the proper way of doing things in order to avoid delays ?

StockXpert.com / Anyone experiences delays with approvals ?
« on: March 14, 2008, 07:21 »
I have a batch sitting on StockXpert for two weeks now. ( ??? Their system is confusing - all newly updated images have "Pending" status. Of course after upload I edit the pics (categories etc.) and press the "Submit" button   - but there is no actual confirmation that anything has changed - the image is still "Pending".  ???)  Previous batches have been approved much faster - but now they really slowed down. Anyone ?

General Stock Discussion / If you need to delete a photo...
« on: March 11, 2008, 04:55 »
Can anyone clarify 123RF and Dreamstime in particular ? These marked "can do" offer the facility to delete an image directly.

Shutterstock - can do
Dreamstime - not sure, there is a "Disable" button
123RF - no (maybe E-mail request can be sent, not sure)
BigStock - need to send E-mail request
CanStock - can do
Fotolia - can do
Stockxpert - can do
Featurepics - there is facility to request deletion
Mostphotos - can do.

Shutterstock.com / First 100 downloads at SS (big smile here)
« on: March 01, 2008, 19:45 »
So - after 12 days with only 23 images online - the first miserly target is reached  ;D
Hopefully it will continue (?) - since I uploaded (and got approved) more images.

24
Mostphotos.com / What is happening with Mostphotos ?
« on: February 28, 2008, 04:14 »
For the last couple of days the site was getting slower and slower - and now dropped off the net altogether. in the beginning - it was operating OK. Then it started loading slowly, but once there - it was OK. Then - getting into member's profile started taking a lot of time.  A day or two later - the images started loading slowly and/or not displaying all. Today - I can't even connect.  At the same time - no problem whatsoever with any of the other sites. What is going on ?

Edit: BTW, I have noticed that ScandinavianStockPhoto.com is address is showing up at the bottom of the screen when I click on Mostphoto shortcut: again - strange, but maybe someone knows what is going on ?

General - Top Sites / Why are sales disappearing ?
« on: February 27, 2008, 22:00 »
I am not talking about sales in general, but specifically about recorded sales.
Recently I had one case on 123RF and one on SS: a sale was listed for an image - and couple of hours later it disappeared from the list, with the sales total figure going back.  Anyone can shed some light on this ? Some server/cache refreshing issues with my comp (at least with SS, where the numbers went back up) ?

But on 123RF the sale just disappeared, which I can't explain.
