"Unfortunately we can no longer keep online images with Caucasian white people wearing American Indian attire (or any other type of native people). This is now considere cultural appropriation so images, even with children, need to be removed.

My neighbor is 25% native American and looks pure Caucasian white male. He is member of his tribe here as well. So he cannot wear his tribe clothing anymore?

Lol! Four days without sales. That will teach me not place paranoia topics like this :)

Get use to the no sales day-- sadly they are getting more and more common. Years ago most of us got sales even on weekends feeling we had a bright future.

A few years ago I asked my mentor what my future was in the microstock business -- she said, "Close your eyes and tell me what you see?" I told I her that I see nothing but darkness. She didn't say anything afterwards...

Still appears you are guilty until proven innocent  :-[

Thanks Mat!

Personally, I don't agree with what not to shoot. If you can do the image/video very well and capture it uniquely it can bump off other top selling images. The top sellers will be come stale and buyers will be looking for something fresh.  Objectively and being creative are key to competing with millions of images...

What if the OP works for the agency? Would they be considered a double agent spy (007)  8)

If the OP is the original artist, they will re-instate his account and return the money.

Are you Shutterstock liason? Curious how you state as fact.

BINGO!!! There's a perfect example of the hostility that we really don't need brought in from elsewhere.

Having hung out for many years on this forum with Pete, I'd bet my life that he is not a Shitterstock liaison.

Also knowing Pete for many years the only liaison that he is: Green Bay Packer fan, scotch drinker and taking great race car images!

thanks  8)

Hey Folks,

Do you know the folks that got photoshop for free if it was for one computer or two computers?

I also think that the difference will be more noticable the more sales you have.
You say you sell between 10 and 20 photos a week - If you think about it that's actually quite a high fluctuation of 50%, so not really stable at all. It just seems so similar to you, because the number 10 is rather close to 20. But if you upscale the numbers to 100 compared to 200 sales or even 1000 compared to 2000, which is the same ratio, you will see much clearer that your sales aren't as stable as you think.

but it's unlikely that will be the case - small sample size will have much greater swings & variation - eg, 1 buyer taking a series of 5-10 images will distort an average of 15, but have no effect on sales of 100-200.  this is the reason we get so many worries/complaints about swings when really it's to be expected. it's called regression to the mean - will happen quickly for large samples, slower for small ones.

well stated! Commonly referred to as the 'Wall'--- once hit it no matter how many images you add the income levels stay the same or even drop...

the clear this one up-- Do you want to remove all your images on AS? If so, than closing your account is the smartest and fastest way.

DT must have a lot of mentally deranged buyers  :(

In this business the reviews are slow and the pay is low that is how we go (Rap song)... 8)

truly depends on what you submit. For example, backgrounds can sell all year long. Food and health sell all year long.  Seems like you have some good commercial images to get regular sales.  Good start...

thank you everybody, you helped me a lot. I am doing illustrations with open source software and an old machine. I have no extra expenses. After 12 years in the business (almoste every day) I need some time-out...

I've taken a few months off here and there during my 10 plus years in this business. And I've drank my share during the shooting and processing of my images  ;D

Impact/benefits of not uploading anymore--

1. Waking up and finally realizing that this business is well past it day
2. More free time to spend on things you enjoy (family, travel, beer)
3. Getting a real paying job instead of wasting time dreaming
4. Not wasting $$$ on expensive equipment anymore

I blame windows 11  8)

I do the same on my food shots--- I always have my batteries charged and ready to shot a moment's notice thus perfect to run out of the kitchen with the food and do a one minute photo session and bring the food back to eat!

never heard from support. I am surprised they don't seem to care about us? I would expect turnaround service within 24 hrs  >:(

I am shooting on a blue background to prove you can sell blue xmas images  8)

You have to do both. You have to take what you love and then find a commercial use for it. Everything I shoot has a particular commercial use and buyer behind it. You need to research this as well. Who are your buyers? Where are they? What do they want?

My story: I started uploading in 2013 but only on a part time basis, and full-time in 2014 where I treated it like a full-time job, and planned shoots for every day. In the beginning I had no idea what to shoot so I started to experiment. I eventually found what sold (like crazy) by thinking about all the things I loved doing and how I could convert that to sales. I used to visualize the buyer when I set up my shoots.

Recently I reached 100,000 DLs on SS and more than double that across all agencies - probably close to 1/4 million of sales overall. My maximum number of sales in a day on SS was over 200 DLs. If someone had told me back when I started that I would do this, I would have fainted.

But I believe that you definitely need to find things that you love doing first - because you won't be able to sustain the long journey of microstock otherwise. And then it becomes fun. And then work out how to convert that to commercial use.

PS. I dont shoot editorials. Only about 200 editorials in my whole port of 10k photos - and they are mostly only illustrative eds shot with a specific purpose in mind. Someone told me in the beginning not to shoot editorials and to put that time and effort into commercial stock. I think that was great advice and it worked for me.

I don't shoot people, only some 'hand-modelling' by myself and my husband.

I use a lot of color, and I also put them through Viveza (via the Nik Collection) to make them pop and ensure I have the best dynamic range. I believe it helps them stand out on crowded search pages. Good dynamic range naturally attracts the 'eye' of buyers. 'Flat' photos (as per the histogram graph) dont sell as well.

+100 great advice!

I've wonder is there a news site (not CNN or Fox) that actually only reports news based on fact?
