Dreamstime.com / Re: Is DT alive ?
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:53 »
I finally have some Level 3 files and am getting 84 cent subs... feels good, but I wonder how many sales would come our way if the level system was dropped... would it be more than double? How many 25 a day subscribers would jump ship from Shutterstock to go to Dreamstime? Just things I wonder about...

I think like any site selling stock we have to remember 'Individual Results May Vary'...
For me, I'm back to exclusive at Dreamstime after a dip in the Shutterstock pool and I have to say, I make more being exclusive on DT. February would have been a BME if part of it hadn't been exclusive, and January was a BME before that... My portfolio is small, 250+ vector illustrations, but my approval is high, almost 90%, and this couple with exclusivity gets me very good page rankings, which in turn lead to good sales...
I remember a post a while back where people were questioning why someone would ever be exclusive at Fotolia.... someone piped in how it made sense for them and that they made great sales... it does make sense for some...
So, yes, DT is alive and for me very much kickin' it!

I'm sure the number might be a bit over the map, but I'm just wondering if anyone can give a general feel of the ratio of sub sales to On-Demand...
100 to 1?
30 to1?

If you open an older version of an eps or ai file in a newer version of illustrator, you'll get the [converted] tag on the end... just remove it if you need.

For removing those gradient bands I'd recommend exporting the JPEG as RGB if the illustrator file is in RGB mode and CMYK if it is in CMYK mode... I've done various tests with this and found quite dramatic differences if I set up in CMYK in illustrator and then export directly as an RGB JPEG vs. a CMYK JPEG.

Depending on the size of your art board you can alter the pixel count of your jpeg with the DPI... 300 DPI sometimes isn't high enough to get you to 6MP or 3000x2000pixels...usually I export at 450dpi for a 10"x10" art board giving 4500x4500pixels.

Hope this helps.

I had one of these earlier in the week as well. Dreamstime had set the price at $600 and I changed it to $450... no sale. :(

Adobe Stock / Vector submission preview size.
« on: January 03, 2012, 20:17 »
Hi everyone, I'm just getting ready to upload a few vectors to Fotolia and saw this:

Preview resolution must not be less than 5000 x 3000 (15 million pixels).
Files must be less than 2 megabytes.

Do they mean the EPS file or the zip?
It's gonna be tough to get the file size down to 2 mess with a 5000x3000 JPEG attached.

Doesn't really make sense, perhaps they mean that the preview must be less than 5000x3000 pixels???

Any insight would be most helpful.

You can just send an e-mail and they switch your account over in a month.  I can't answer the question definitively about whether you can make the 30 days notice part of the 6 months timeline...  But the way it reads:

"...an Exclusive Contributor may terminate their status as an Exclusive Contributor with thirty (30) days prior written notice to Dreamstime.com. If an Exclusive Contributor terminates this Agreement prior to the passage of six (6) months, Dreamstime.com reserves the right to..."

I would say if you are giving 30 days notice to terminate, then you haven't actually terminated prior to the 30 days being up...  I would want to clarify with their support, though, as you stand to lose all the exclusive earnings and upload bonuses if you get it wrong.

Thanks, I'm going to clarify when I send them the email. Your explanation makes sense as well...

That's why you got it.

Istock must be sending millions of them out then  ;)

Hi All,

As a DT exclusive for the last 6 months I just wanted to let you know how this thread has changed my opinion on things. I was just accepted into Shutterstock today (on the first go round) 9 out of 10 approved. I've spent the evening here uploading files to the site. I hope good things come out of Shutterstock for me... I've been purchasing there for the last couple of weeks and they seem pretty 'With It'... Anyway, thanks for the post, it's really opened things up for me.

As Shutterstock recently mentioned: Don't forget to sign up with other agencies NOW not when you're exclusivity is over.

At Shutterstock you can even upload and have image approved but they won't be put on sale until you activate your portfolio. Very handy feature.

I can't help you though with the exclusivity details at DT though... Good luck!

This is what I am doing. Shutterstock has a good idea with this. I've been waiting for a week now for the id verification though... I guess they must have some backlog...

Dreamstime.com / Dropping exclusivity
« on: December 10, 2011, 15:43 »
Hi all,

Just a quick question for those who were at one pint exclusive and are no longer.
I understand the six month minimum exclusive period. Can I send a 30 day notice of termination out after 5 months of exclusivity, in that way I'll be able to end exclusivity after the 6th month?
Do I just send them an email giving them the 30 day notice and then tell them when my last exclusive day will be?

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi All,
Just noticed that Dreamstime isn't offering a one week subscription anymore. Anyone have any info on this? Seems like a new thing to me.
