I've been paid for my 1st Arc sale.  A little disappointed in that it was just under a 3 figure sum.  However, it's a lot better than microstock.

I believe from what I've read that the smaller sales amount is probably due to lower distribution/licensing numbers.  It's a German language novel only, as far as I know only printed in Switzerland.

I think that English language international best sellers will earn more.

So, the project is that everyone who reads this please buys this novel, to turn it into a bestseller, that will then be translated into several languages (for which I think I'll be paid again).

You may have to learn German 1st.

Christof Gasser: 'When the Shadows Die'.

Incidentally, for anyone who cares to look, the red brush strokes are mine (on an authentic vintage photo).

I was in an email discussion today with Ole (formerly of the Sstock forum) about whether the contributors who spend more (in money and time) say on models, sets etc, are paid more, but my gut feeling is that it's just down to distribution numbers/usage of the image.  I'd love to know the answer to this question ...
Congratulations.. its always the best feeling to see 1st sale :) even to listen someone's :p After how many images accepted, u guys got your 1st sale in Arcangel ?

how are you guys doing in adobe than SS (in video sales) ?

3
Yes Dop. How can you not know about your sales..

i thought its not bad to be a contributor there and sent my getty port link and they rejected lol i love the kind of images you and some other arcangel contributors uploading.. i used to shoot similar style of photos before coming to stock and i actually enjoy taking such shots

I tried 3 times and on the 3rd (+ accepted) attempt I'd taken mostly new photos aimed directly at book covers (including model released) and uploaded them to a Google folder and sent Arc that link.
I think it's a minimum of 20 but am not certain of that.
Just linking to another stock site won't work I think.
Good luck if you try again  :)
Thanks for the advice. I will try that but I am more reluctant to keep trying kind of things these days.. Is it worth to upload exclusive images in archangel? How have your experience been there who are uploading there for a while...?

Its always joy to read your sales report and your experience while shooting in public in different countries.. and i do wait for your monthly sale report email notice in my inbox haha
Do you face some difficulty in setting the mindset when you shoot a subject whether it should go for micro or to arcangel ?
and are the images one submit to arangel need to be exclusive ?

After years of good sales in alamy, now it's dead for me. I was patient and left my portfolio there  but after their commission structure change I can't wait months to get sales. So deleted my portfolio there. Will have to wait 6 months now

So SS has become a kind of pixabay site where photographer can upload their photo/video for free and not to expect any price for their images/videos (other than 10 cents) and  seldom more than 10 cents like people ocassionslly donate few dollars in pixabay.

Perhaps! What is real is the $ now and whatever is in the future is purely hypothetical :)

A few words of wisdom that might come in handy, for your future blogs:  ;D

You will make better decisions once you begin thinking long-term rather than short-term.

"Ignoring the facts for short-term gain will almost always bring long-term pain"

"You can't build long-term future, with short term thinking"

"It is human nature to seek instant gratification and empty pleasures even when we know it is wrong."

etc, etc, etc...  :-*
I agree but it applies only when things are only in your hands. Do you think everyone thinks the same? No..
If it was the case then why nobody disregarded when ss 1st started with subscription model.. At that time also many rejected this system saying it will kill.. . Yes it did kill the stock industry gradually but everyone at that time sooner or later, joined ss praising it. And hence later every other stock agency started its own subscription models.. Was it stopped by anyone... No? But yes people did get their share of earning as long as it was possible..
Now also many of us Wil reject and blame Adobe's free collection but as you see.. Most of stock photographer will join it. And take it.. No one can stop this  trend once started.
What happened when SS started 10 cents payment system recently.. Many removed their port.. That's it.. Anything stopped.. No.
It's because this thing is not in one's hand. I sympathise with your intention and I am not with Adobe but this thing is unstoppable.. If not you then many others will join it. So  in my view its OK if people putting their images in free collection for 5 bulks per image.
Collapse of this whole micro stock industry is inevitable

thats right and:

for this little upfront more you paying in the future for much more less

Perhaps! What is real is the $ now and whatever is in the future is purely hypothetical :)

What makes me happy is that AS selected images, in my case, which barely sell anyway on all agencies, so even $5 for them to turn into vinegar thereafter is a fortune for me since most are so past their shelf-life / usefulness (see graph below).

I put together some of my thoughts on this new business model here (if you haven't already checked it out):

https://xpiksapp.com/blog/free-downloads-microstocks/

A person from Brazil
Nice article snd while we don't know what lies in future but currently it seems true what the author describes in this article.
But we a should also consider that while getty is solely a stock photo/video sites and (if I'm not wrong), but Adobe is not just a stock site and it's main business is softwares (that will probably never die even if whole stock market dies) and you know why. But getty will do what ever possible to save its stock business that may include further cutting contributors or buying other free image sites. ( that's why I prefer to stick with bigger ship Getty)
I don't count SS any more (actually never counted it before also) people did earned from ss but its 25 cents subscription model never attracted me.. But yeas as I said ppl did enjoyed it until the last drop of their port... Some still so but dunno why I feel ss has come to and end.. At least for contributors.. Even their forum is full of spams and nobody from moderators of ss care...
Last night I was looking the pixabay images and videos and many of them are really nice and would have earned some good sum from stock sites. If people can get those quality of images  for free then why would they pay for similar images until they need very specific subject.
Now I feel ppl are doing right by giving away their images in Adobe for a year for  5 $.

11
Can't believe that people now love renting their images for $5 for whole year.. 12 months..  I'm not with Adobe but surely they don't accept images of anything and everything and the images accepted are reasonably quite good. Anyone who has experience with multiple stock agencies, would know that an image with zero sales in a site, can be the best seller in other site. But each to his own...

stock photographers acting like fbi agents, 'there is more to the story here', dissecting every word, never seen a more distrusting bunch of people than on photography forums, and ganging up on people as well, why is it that stock photographers have such crappy personalities..
,
pfft

It's usually because when somebody says something along the lines of 'my account has been closed for no reason', aside from a few very rare exceptions.... there is always, usually without fail, almost every single time... a reason. A reason which only becomes apparent later in the thread when information is provided that wasn't initially. So while it would be nice to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and go with the premise that there actually is 'no reason' it usually saves a bit of time to question what they're saying.

A random example for you...

"My account was closed for no reason"

100 questions and replies later...

"Ok, so just to clarify, based on what you've told us... your account was actually closed because you have eight different accounts, have been buying your own content, have moved countries 20 times in the last year, you got a bunch of DMCA requests on your content, you now live in North Korea, you have 50 other people with SS accounts using your laptop to log in, you have an approval rating of less than 0.1%, your content is made up of blurred stills from ramdon videos that you found off the internet, and you specifically asked for your account to be closed?"

"Yeah, that's right"
I read your replies in some differnt threads and you always seem to support agencies.. And always saying others that they (stock agencies) have the right to close anyone's account what so ever be the case.. Not sure but feel like you are someone from the other site.. Someone working for agency? And also selling the contents too?

I have told everything here. If you guys think my account was closed because I once deactivated my account then I will again say it was a year back and after that I again started uploading contents and my account was alive. And closing that account by an agency because of some error (what they themselves told), then it was agency's fault and it creates distrust in contributors.
And I don't have 20 accounts as I said I had one nonexcluaive (which was closed) and one exclusive account which is allowed in p5.
If there was some error from my side then p5 could have warned me earlier and I was not messaging here.
I have still not received a constructive reply here (except 1 or 2) other than mostly ppl suspecting my intention. Anyways it doesn't matter. You can submit your work to the sites you want. I also loved p5 but recent changes and what happened to my account doesn't seem fair to me. May be you guys would realise if same thing  happens to your own account. I will better stick to the one agency getty which despite giving low percentage is only seems to be genuine to me in these 10 years of my stock photography journey and everything else including ss and p5 has been following to the same route to downwards for contributors which I imagined years ago.

14
I had a problem with my account a few years when Pond5 merged or bought out another site? I am having trouble remembering the exact details. I ended up with two accounts and unable to login or something. I do recall that it was nightmare getiing them to to sort it and it resulted in my sales tanking (and they have never really recovered).
Thanks for sharing. There must be many other people too who might have similar experience. I searched there forum for old posts and came up that someone whose account was closed a year ago and his/her files were still on sale in Adobe and some other partner sites. That person said he had emailed the support many time but now no reply from them.
Ps- I got reply from p5 saying that they are looking into matter. Wow first clearly said they caouldn't do anything for my closed account and asked me to create new account for my email and now saying they are looking into the matter. Anyways I have lost my faith in p5 too.

15
I once had requested to delete this account as I was not actively uploading there

?

The small section of that quote goes on to say...

"but as they had asked me while accepting the deletion request that I can reactivate my account if I change my mind in near future so after few days I reactivated my account and start uploading  new contents time to time ."

True, but I'd like an English translation of "they asked me... I can reactivate my account if I changed my mind in the near future..."

He asked to have his account deactivated.

I sent those links to support but I got their reply saying due to some error my account has been deleted automatically and it can not be reinstated. :-[

Some error when they tried to re-instate the account. And his final question was a good one.

Anyone had similar experience in pond 5 ?

Does P5 randomly close and delete accounts for inactivity or no reason? If they do, I'm at risk of being deleted without notice. So has anyone else who didn't ask that their account be closed, also had their account, mysteriously deleted? That could be important to many of us here.
When I said I deactivated my account .. so deactivation was done in 2020 Nov or December..  then I did get time to upload and have been uploading till last month ( May-June 2021)
If I deactivated my account once 7-9 months back and then it 2as running then still its an active account which was closed. I am guessing that once deactivation may cause some error but still its an error from their side which led me to lose my account.
Anyways I am not going to follow it. I just wanted to know if others faced similar situation and also wanted other forum membera to know that such account termination is possible becauae this forum has been helpful to me since I joined this forum and stock photography agencies (in 2011)

16
There just seems to be something missing here.  P5 doesn't just "lose an account" then say, oh well, sorry.  If accounts mysteriously disappear like you say P5 claims, they would be all over it to resolve why.  You think they'd be concerned about other accounts mysteriously disappearing and that is a major concern as a stock agency.  I am not saying you're wrong, but I just don't think we're hearing the whole story.
I don't think there is any genuine violation of their rules on my part.  I can think of just 2 things possible on my part-
(1) we have another exclusive account but many do have exclusive and non exclusive accounts there , so it can't be
(2) I once had requested to delete this account as I was not actively uploading there but as they had asked me while accepting the deletion request that I can reactivate my account if I change my mind in near future so after few days I reactivated my account and start uploading  new contents time to time . Otherwise I don't think if there is any reason.
Here is the screen shot of last email from pond5 support

I don't support such things, but they're entitled to what they're entitled to do, whether we support it or not. And yes, I agreed they should be liable for unpaid funds, but there's nothing you can do about them closing it. Do they owe you any money... have you received any earnings emails with funds that haven't yet been paid out?
No. They don't owe me any funds however. I have accounts in Getty SS IS alamy and in fact in istoxk I have just 1 photo left but still they are alive since I opened them since 2011 12.
I have never heard earlier that some contributors accounts have been closed but those were because of some violation of their rules. Never heard before that someone's account was mistakenly deleted. We have an exclusive account in pond 5 but that's completely separate account where she upload separate files.
Hope my files available in partner sites like Adobe, will be removed soon.
After this accident my wife is now reluctant to upload new content to her account and will soon delete footage containing models.

18
But their support team said it was deleted due to some error and when they try to recover it, it comes with error so unfortunately you have to create a new account with the same email. Soas I understand my account was not purposely deleted but it was due to some error...

19
Liable for what, just out of interest? If they had unpaid funds then fair enough, those should be paid out, but all agencies have the right to delete accounts at any time, and for any reason, so whether it was a mistake or not... they have no obligation to provide him with an active account.
Does it mean they can delete anyone's account at any time.. even of those with thousands of files and years of work including Big names ? OK I had very small numbers of files but still.. are such mistakes possible ?

20
Yes. I had a contributor account which I opened about 10 years back and have been uploading videos and photos there bit in last 1 year I was not uploading very actively. Still I used to log in to see if I got any sale. I could not log in there for last 1 or 2 months and then when I tried to log in it said wrong password. I tried some times and then chose "Forgot password" option to reset the password. But got no email.
When I contacted their support I got reply that I don't have any account associated with my email. I checked in Adobe and there are my videos associated with my ID/Pond5. I sent those links to support but I got their reply saying due to some error my account has been deleted automatically and it can not be reinstated. :-[
Anyone had similar experience in pond 5 ? If so please share what did you do then ?

21
I submit images to DT through its mobile app but as someone said above..  Not even a single view.
And yes ss has an android app which allow u to upload mobile images.  I have some uploaded via this route recently but no sale yet.
I have not yet tried eyeem.  It seems interesting.  Will see it

General - Stock Video / Re: Video: which sites are worth it?
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:57 »
I think sunsets, testshots etc...or files that simply havent sold in several years can be priced cheaper. Not everything deserves 60 dollars. And many files dont even sell when priced at 10 dollars. Some stuff is simply not useful.

But many of my files have been selling for years now at 60 dollars, so i keep them there. I also have a series that I will price at 90-120 dollars, just havent processed it yet. This file will for a year only be available at pond5. If it sells, Ill keep it there, if it doesnt, Ill lower the price and send it to SS as well.

I also price my photos between 5-25 dollars. There is no reason to keep it all at the same price.

Pond5 is a real market place and you get what you pay for. Customers often buy the most expensive clip from a series, because it is the best one.
i liked your strategy jasmin. Specially placing some videos a year in pond5 and after that period reconsidering them whether to upload alre where or lowering price. But dont forget to mention in the description of those videos that they are exclusive to p5 atm. I dont know about lowering price of clinche videos. I almost always keep the price above 100 and they do get sold. Not sure if had been sold more frequently if i had kept their price low. Like i sold a video of simple firework (not very vivid though) for 108$ few months back. Where as there a lot and lot of much better fireworks video there for all price levels.

I'm using a Core 2 Quad with 16 Gram(ddr2) and it is working fine for HD and FullHD video editing. So the i5 CPU with a memory upgrade from 8 to 16 will be fine ...but not for 4k of course :) and yes there is a huge difference from i5 to i7 :)) Good luck
Huge difference? I heard there is not much difference, You have quad core, that mean i7 ?
Thanks for reply
