I agree...

simple smart concepts are the biggest sellers...you will sell a lot more...

If you want to make more money that's the way to go...

that's my experience...

I agree with most of the stuff said in this thread. Good simple concepts sell the best, but some better more artistic stuff will get you portfolio noticed.
I'm largely talking about the sites other than SS here especially IStock.
SS is the exception in that they will accept any old crap and, remarkably, it'll sell too!!!

hi there...
I think the files that sell more are the ones packed with icons, symbols, flourish stuff, complex crests and the like... The super complex flourishes with banners and crests sell a lot...

however note that There are simple files selling as much as complex ones....

I think there are certain types of illustration that aren't
selling much because the micros are saturated with them...The only thing I think is not selling that well is illustration with girls shopping, like some cartoons...

It is hard to say...
Maybe you can come up with something so different and create a new trend....
that can happen....

I was always wondering...

how do they choose who goes in the vector of the week ????
does anyone knows?

is it random?

I think maybe is a better option because

IStock sell vectors at 10 to 25 bucks...
while other sites sell for a lesser price...I hope I'm not mistaken...

would you get a bigger commission at IS?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Pricing Question
« on: June 06, 2008, 16:53 »
I agree with both...
I wouldn't say mom and pop with a homebased business are not able to afford a couple of hundred....
They are...

I don't know....any business, even on  a shoestring budget, should be able to afford a few hundred dollars for an advertising campaign or brochure that is intended to bring in revenue.  If they can't afford that then how can they possibly get a business going.  And if they really can't....I don't see that merchants of other low priced  business necessities lowering prices because the budget doesn't fit. They still have to buy pencils, notebooks, ledgers etc for the normal price.   And wouldn't revenue from people that can afford $10 photos, which have got to be more numerous than businesses who can't afford that, make up for losing the sales of those that can't afford it.

All i am saying is that the micros all seem to be trying to undercut each other and would probably make more by raising prices a bit....if the others followed in suit.

Also, aren't a lot of the buyers web designers etc who just keep the profit from the lower photo prices?  If someone has hired a graphic artist or web designer surely they can afford $10 photos?

Ok...

so I think it boils down to who is reviewing images.....
what one inspector would reject maybe
 other would accept..

...is the inspection /quality requirement raised for exclusives ???
 I think is the opposite...

Ay, some of the stuff in 'latest exclusive images' on the home page I wouldn't even upload...

Although, having said that, IS seems to accept some stuff of mine that is a little marginal as well, so I should probably shut my trap! :-).

Just to be clear:  if becoming exclusive at iStock is made more difficult and the quality requirement raised, that would make it MORE APPEALING for me to be exclusive there, and IMO would also cause many more customers to buy exclusive only.

Are you saying the quality requirements would be higher for exclusives than for non-exclusives?  If not and if the quality requirements were raised across the board, for both exclusive and non-exclusive alike, why would the customers want to buy exclusive only when they could get the same quality level from a non-exclusive?

thank you for posting Bittersweet... :-\

I see that the only difference, is  an extra "c" paragraph...
Does that makes the 10th clause worse or better for the contributor?

Im asking because indemnification clauses in  any dotcom  shrink wrap agreement
is usually a deep subject LOL.. Like  they want to be indemnified against bogus claims
instead of actual law suits among other things...

but anyways... does the exclusive favors the contributor a bit more or the opposite?

Legase is a bit tricky to interpret, worse yet when english is your second language  ;D

Thanks !
