I had a BME. 123RF BME and wait for it......a BME on IS, up 50% in revenue from the previous BME there which was sometime last year.......weird business this. Also BME on DT but FT also waaayyyy down for me.
Quite happy, given that I'm a hobbyist and have a tiny port compared to you guys.

Software - General / Re: Keywording in lightroom
« on: September 09, 2011, 00:16 »
I use LR for keywording all my images, then upload to sites and set categories. import keyworded images into Deepmeta (only for iStock), do their horrible keyword thingy, although its easier in Deepmeta, set the categories and then upload. I'm not familiar with crushy stock so cant help you there.
Just a thought...I think keywording is the most irritating thing to do for most of us but it is the most important and well worth spending time to get it right, without the right keywords a buyer will never fing your image....

Same here, LR for cataloguing, sorting and minor editing and keywording, then PS (CS4) for the rest. These two work very well together for me. I also started converting to dng when CS3 no longer read my camera's files (Canon) and even after I upgraded to CS4 continued to work in dng...just got used to it I suppose. I convert the images directly to dng upon import into LR so no time wasted with file conversions late on.

Great job and I like it :)

My point is: Shutterstock, is prepared no negotiate!! which is a hell of a lot more then some others I could mention,  not set in stone.
Thanx for the reply Lagereek. I agree that they are willing to negotiate which is really nice and I'm not too upset with the recent rejection mania...that's just the way it goes so get used to it and get on with it.

Nice to read something positive for a change ;D
I've never had any problems with them and they continue to sell better than any other site for me so I'll just continue to stick around there
Would you mind giving a bit more detail about the focus problem and how you explained it?

Newbie Discussion / Re: Improper image isolation
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:46 »
NEVER use the magic wand tool for isolation, use the pen tool, there's loads of tuts on the internet on how to use it, takes a bit of practice but you'll get it right in no time
After you've isolated it, make a curve adjustment layer, drag the right side of the curve all the way down and you'll see where there is areas that are jagged or not fully isolated
If you say an image is isolated it must be on a pure white BG, anything other than that is not isolated
As the others have said you don't need a big setup (would be nice though)......I still have nothing more that one single flash ;D and a nice curve table. Believe it or not, before I had the table I did some images in a white cooler box with an on camera flash and a sheet of white paper and it worked brilliantly (somewhere on the internet there was a tut on this)
do your research on the web, play around, don't get discouraged and keep going

General Stock Discussion / Re: Yuri new studio..!
« on: February 24, 2011, 01:58 »
Yuri, congrats on a wonderful studio in an awesome old building. Wish you lots of success and loads of fun
Oh...and saw your advert regarding looking for people in your Cape Town office....welcome to our shores :) :)

I had a BME for both downloads and revenue overall. SS, DT and Canstock were BME's. :D
BS and 123RF were average performers.

I had a bumper month, BME on SS,IS,FT,CanStockPhoto (although only uploaded there last month so wasn't difficult to make BME with 2 sales ;D) and DT :D
For both SS and DT I had BME in Sept as well so steadily climbing for me...hope it continues though
SS 42%
IS 20%
DT 18%
FT 12%
CS 6%
The rest is BS and 123RF that are in any case dead for me

BIG DEAD indeed

I'm already on BME on DT, SS and FT ;D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Chicken - egg dilema

I should also add that of my top 10 earners, 7 almost never or never sold at other sites, and vice versa.
same here, weird business this is......

another thread, Lisafx mentioned that 90% of her income came from the top 4 sites. I think for most of us that's roughly true. So while you can add a trickle to your income from the smaller sites, it really doesn't make a ton of difference to your totals
thanx jsnover, I saw lisa's post just after I posted and it does answer the question.... So I am gonna focus on the big four and do the others when I can, have time, feel like it, am bored

Man, your guys rock with downloads per month!! Inspirational to see :)
I'm at 1.5   1.5  1.2  1.1 and a whopping 1  ::)
My "best seller" is a landscape, so yeah...go figure

melastmohican: I understand exactly what you mean , I'm struggling with the same issue :-\ and don't have an answer
stockmarketer: very good info, something all of us must keep in mind and thank you for that. the question still remains that if you have the same images on different sites and on some sites the images sell well but on another agency the same images don't, what do you do? Do you keep uploading in the hope that a bigger and better port would generate more sales or do you stop uploading there and only focus on the sites that give better return.
Sorry, I now almost repeated mohican's post.... :)

I had a bumper month across the board
SS BME by a large margin
IS and FT 2nd best months ever
Even BS and 123 did better than the previous 5 months...although still crappy in relation to the others
So I'm really pleased ;D ;D

I found them on shutter stock, the thing about that place is you have to pay alot of money for there images. If you dont pay they have  a watermark through them. I just printed them and ignored the watermaerk while transfering the image. If you go on there and search halloween you will find the images click on one then there is a link to the artists other designs on the site you may be able to find her work some where eles online I just never looked. Hope that helps some of you out.
a post in the forum where she explains where she gets them from.........just AWFUL

Off Topic / Re: Too much facebook, cellphone... :)
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:43 »
Supercool....LOL, oops sorry :D
I'm very strict in managing my cell, I've switched off voicemail, if you wanna talk to me and I cant answer right now you can phone me later again, I'm not gonna call you back.
I do SMS a lot, sometimes just easier to quickly arrange something that way but my goodness it irks me when someone sends me a text asking how are you? Do you want me to send a looong sms explaining everything thats going on in my life or is it just a way of telling me that you're thinking of me but don't want to go to the trouble of contacting me directly and at least in this way you don't have to feel guilty that you didn't phone me??
I answer only if and when I want to, not because that particular person wants to talk to me right this minute.
I never answer while we're having our family dinner time and neither does my husband.
I never answer when I'm talking to someone else face to face, I think that's extremely rude and kinda defeats the purpose of me trying to teach my kids not to interrupt a conversation.
Although I have a FB account and it has been nice making contact with people from long ago it's just plain irritating receiving all kinds of cybergarbage like a kiss, bunch of roses, slap on the butt...or whatever. I'd much rather send a personal e-mail, make a personal phone call or have a coffee or a braai (bbq) with friends. This is just my opinion and the way I feel about all of this. Of course I don't use my cell for business any more. I am a doctor and my cell was indispensable when I was in practice. Maybe that's why I now have such an aversion to it, it ringing frequently meant that I had to get out of bed and rush to hospital. Now I do a completely different kind of doctoring and don't need to be in contact 24/7 so I can manage it much better. Phew...what a relief ;)

;D ;D I think that every time I look in the mirror.

 ;D ;D ;D
if you photograph any food in a restaurant before you eat it
if you save all kinds of strange odds and ends in the hope that you may someday photograph it
if the f5 button on your computer doesn't have any ink on it anymore

Off Topic / Re: World Cup 2010
« on: June 11, 2010, 02:17 »
I live in Pretoria, South Africa and the soccer (we call it that) fever is running HIGH. On every car flags are flying, my own too, from every lamp post flags are flying and the sounds of vuvuzela's fill the air...My kids are having HUGE soccer parties at their schools today. This is a great event and even though I've never been a soccer fan I'm pretty sure that's gonna change within the next couple of weeks.
T minus 5 hours and I'm gonna plaster myself in front of the TV....
As to who will win I know too little to make a prediction. My only hope is that Bafana Bafana (what we call our national team) will do reasonably well ;D
